翻译确也追求这么一个标准:不仅能信faithfulness, 能达expressiveness,还要“信”得贴切,“达” 得恰当----称为“雅”elegance。

杨绛文学语言的特点
其沉淀简洁的语言,看起来平平淡淡,无阴 无晴。然而平淡不是贫乏,阴晴隐于其中,经过 漂洗的苦心经营的朴素中,有着本色的绚烂华丽 。干净明晰的语言在杨绛笔下变得有巨大的表现 力。有时把词序变换一下,不符合常规,反倒更 显别致耐读。有时明净到有些冷,但由于渗入诙 谐幽默,便平添几分灵动之气。因而使静穆严肃 的语言自有生机,安静而不古板,活泼而不浮动 ,静中有动,动还是静。沉静诙谐中有沉着老到 、雍容优雅的气派,锋芒内敛后的不动声色,有 种静穆超然的中和之美。
Her translations
• 最出名的是翻译的西班牙作品《堂吉诃德》,她还翻译了 西班牙流浪汉小说《小癞子》。

In 1910s, Yang Jiang was born in Beijing, originally named Yang Jikang.
In 1930s, She grauduated from university and went to Tsinghua University as a postgraduate. There she met Qian Zhongshu, they fell in love and married.

• For Hu Gong (or Master Gourd), a master herbalist in ancient China, a magical gourd of his contains the entire world. Likewise, every book, be it a novel, a play, a biography, or a book of traveling notes, of journals, and of even essays or of poems, contains a world of its own, with its own sun, moon, and stars and its own live characters between heaven and earth. She said that translation is like the servant who has to serve two masters, which is to say that translation should be loyal to both cultures.
杨绛把翻译比做一仆二主,译者同时有两个主人,一个主 人是原文作品,另一个主人是译本的本国读者。译者一方 面得彻底了解原著,不仅了解字面意思,还要领会字里行 间的韵味。另一方面,译文的读者要求从译文里领略原文。 译者得用读者的语言把原作内容用原样表达。
