扰流板(Spoiler)安装在机翼上翼面的特殊面板，升起时可以“干扰”流经机翼的空气的流动，从而减少升力。
失速(Stall)当机翼超过临界“迎角”时发生的升力丧失。
机翼相对于流经机翼的气流的角度不能大到使气流发生涡流而不能产生升力的程度。
如果该角度太大，气流出现分裂，就会出现失速，使机翼不再产生升力。
超音速飞行(Supersonic flight)飞行速度高于音速的飞行。
音速随高度而变，在海平面高度大于700英里/小时（1126公里/小时）。
机场管制区域(TCA - Terminal control area)繁忙机场周围上空特别划定的空域。

某些应答机除发送特殊代码外，还能自动发送飞机高度信息。
涡扇发动机(Turbofan)一种喷气发动机。
该发动机的一部分气流并不流经燃烧室，而是与“核心”气流分离流过发动机。
涡喷发动机(Turbojet)对“纯粹”的喷气式发动机的最初叫法。
通过喷射气流来产生其全部推力。
涡桨发动机(Turboprop)利用喷气发动机驱动螺旋桨的一种发动机。
由于这种发动机在低于典型喷气飞机的速度和高度时效率相对较高，因而通常用于支线机和公务机。
无函道风扇发动机(Unducted Fan)采用喷气发动机的基本核心机来驱动风扇形的大型螺旋桨以产生大部分发动机推力的一种发动机。
桨扇发动机就是无函道发动机的一种。
垂直安定面(Vertical stabilizer)通常安装在机身后部顶上的大“尾部”翼面。
方向舵一般安装在垂直安定面的后缘。
目视飞行规则(VFR- Visual flight rules)在总体能见度良好和云层覆盖有限的时间段实施的飞行的管理规则。
在目视飞行规则下飞行的飞机不需要与空中交通管制员保持联络，自己负责与其它飞机的间隔。
