--Letters for asking and giving advice

Teaching aims:

Students will learn the tactics of writing a letter and the useful expressions.

Teaching procedures

Step 1. Lead-in

Tell Ss today’s topic is how to write letters for asking and giv ing advice. Then present Li Lei’s photo.Ask Ss to listen to his story and think about one question: What trouble does Li Lei have?

After listening, let Ss answer Li Lei’s trouble: have too much homework to do; have no time to do sports; be weak in English

Step 2. Presentation

1.Pairwork

Let Ss discuss what trouble they have in their school life and list their trouble. Then ask Ss to say their trouble.

2.How to write a letter

Tell Ss Miss Li-psychology teacher can help them solve their trouble. They can write to her for help. Tell Ss a letter should include three parts: beginning, body and ending. And then tell Ss what they can write at the beginning, in the body and ending.

Step 3. Writing

Let Ss write a letter to Miss Li for asking advice. Ask one student to write on the Bb. Rewrite the letter with the Ss.

Let Ss remind how to write a letter: List the key points; Choose useful expressions ;Check the forms.

Step 4. Rewrite a letter

Give Ss the following letter that Miss Li writes to Li Lei:

Dear Li Lei,

Don’t complain that you have too much homework. You should communicate with your teachers. You must finish your homework as soon as possible. Then you’ll have time to play sports. You can study English hard. You can read more English books.

Let Ss rewrite the letter and make it better.

Give Ss a good example.

Step 5. Summary

Help Ss conclude what they can write at the beginning, in the body and in the ending and give Ss the tips for writing a letter.

Step 6. Homework

Give Ss two topics, let them choose one as their homework.

Topic 1: Miss Chen is worried because some students often eat in the classroom. Please write to her and give her your advice on

how to stop eating in the classroom.

Topic 2:These days you can’t get on well with your parents because they don’t allow you to watch TV, surf the Internet or

listen to your favorite music. Please write to Miss Li for

asking advice.
