Cambridge's history can be traced back to more than one thousand years ago. It began from a town which has a bridge on the River Cam. The bridge across the River Cam or Granta, from which the town took its name. So, they named it Cambridge.

And the first colleges, Trinity, were built with money from kings, queens, religious house, or other sources. After the Black Death, which killed nearly half the population of England between 1349 and 1350, it was refounded with money from the Countess of Clare.
