The Amber Room Amber feels as hard as stone, but it easily melts when heated, and can be made into any shape . The Amber Room, one of the great wonders of the world, was made for the palace of Frederick Ⅰ,the king of Prussia. It was about 4 meters long. Almost 7thousand tons of amber were used and it was 12 times more precious than gold. It took a team of the country’s best artists 10 years to make it. It was once called the 8th wonder of the world. In 1716,Frederick WilliamⅠgave it to Peter. the Great as a gift of friendship from the Prussian to the Russian people. The Czar used it as a small receptionin the winter palace. Later, Catherine Ⅱ let her artists add more details to its design. So it became greater. But in 1941, Germany and Russia were at war . The room was stolen by the Nazi army and moved to Kongsberg in 27 wooden boxes. Since then, the fate of the room remains a mystery . 60 years of looking for it has been pointless. It was destroyed in World War Ⅱ. In 2003, a new Amber Room was built following old photos . The work to recreate it lasted 24 years.
