原文

公疾病①,求醫於秦。秦伯使醫緩爲之②。未至,公夢疾爲二豎子③,曰:“彼良醫也。懼傷我④,焉逃之⑤?”其一日:“居育之上⑥,膏之下⑦,若我何?”医至,“,曰:疾不可爲也,在肓之上,膏之下;攻之不可⑨,達之不及⑩,藥不至焉①,不可爲也。”公曰:“良醫也!”厚爲之禮而歸之

①疾病:患重病。病,此指重病。

②秦伯:秦桓公,公元前603~前577年在位。醫緩:名字叫缓的医生。爲:诊治。

③爲:变成。豎子:童子;儿童。豎,“竪(竖)”的异体字。后人称疾病为“二竖”本此。

④懼:恐怕。

⑤焉:怎么。逃:躲避。

⑥肓:我国古代医学称心脏与膈膜间的部位为肓。

⑦膏:我国古代医学称心尖脂肪为膏。膏肓”都是人体内部的深层组织,针药难以达到,因又喻危重的疾病。成语“病入膏肓”本此。

8若我何:奈我何。拿我们怎么样。

⑨攻:指用灸法攻治。

⑩達:透达。指用针刺治疗。

①焉:于此。

厚:丰厚。歸之:送他回去。

晋景公患重病,向秦国求医。秦桓公派医缓诊治他。医缓还没

有到达,景公梦见疾病变成两个儿童,其中一个说:“医缓是个良医。恐怕他伤害我们,怎么躲避他呢?”另一个说:“我们处于肓之上膏之下,他能对我们怎么办呢?”医缓到晋国,诊断病情后说:“疾病不可治疗了,它处在肓之上膏之下;灸法攻治不行,针刺治疗达不到,药力也运行不到这个部位,不能治疗了。”景公说:“真是高明的医生呵!”丰厚地赠给他礼品并送他回去。

Jin Jinggong was seriously ill and asked for medical advice
