Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT) suffered from poor shift quality until Zeroshift Limited developed its new replacement for synchromesh. The Zeroshift system provides smoother shifts, improved acceleration and reduced emissions.

Existing manual gearbox plants are easily converted to Zeroshift. The basic manual gearbox architecture and the

single clutch are both retained. The Zeroshift mechanism is compact enough to replace a synchromesh pack even in small

cars and motorcycles.

Acceleration, effi ciency, size and weight of Zeroshift all compare favourably to the best automatic transmission systems while shift quality is either matched or exceeded. The technology is applicable to all passenger cars, trucks, motorcycles, motorsport vehicles and off highway equipment.

Zeroshift technology is a seamless, instantaneous means of changing gear ratios without interrupting the torque to the driveline. It is less expensive than both continuously variable transmissions (CVT) and dual clutch transmissions (DCT)

Two drive rings with alternating faces share a common

hub and allow drive in one or the other direction; one ring

takes up drive, the other eliminates the backlash that is

common in dog shift transmissions.

When conducting a Zeroshift, the unloaded ring is

moved with considerably less force to that of existing

transmissions. Engine synchronization is conditioned by

a control system to ensure a seamless torque transition.

Better performance

Because of its enhanced performance, Zeroshift allows

vehicle manufacturers to downsize their powertrains, allowing, for example, a 1.2-litre engine to enjoy the same performance as a 1.4-litre engine.

This is achieved due to the complete removal of shift time normally associated with a synchromesh manual.

In a drag race, a 2005 Mustang fi tted with Zeroshift gained over 5 car lengths over an otherwise identical manual car.
