Abstract
I wanted to know h ow “Reform and Ope ning” Change People’s Life. Is it worth going on? I considered yes. I interviewed five people. All of them told me that “Reform and Opening”leaded their life much better. They learnt a lot from western movie, music, and novel. They are more open-mind, knowledgeable. They richer and have more choices for shopping than before. They have more freedom. It proofs my idea.
In 1978, Chinese central government decide to change planned economic into mixed economic system and open the gate of China to the world officially. It’s still going on. We call it “Reform and Opening”. “Reform and Opening” is regard as one the most importance event in PRC’s history because it changed Chinese people’s life materially and mentally. Outcome of research is expected show the changing of general people’s life from 1978 to now, like the increase of income, the way they bought. On the other hand show the changing of how people thinking.
I get the information comes from five interviewers: Qiang Kong, Jing Li, Yuluan Zhong, Shimin Li, and Qinjing Kong. I interviewed first four in home in 20 September 2014.And the last one in Nanhu Restaurant in 27 September.
I didn’t ask them some subjective question like what they felt. I asked them what changing they experience which was caused by “Reform and Ope ning” during last 36 years. Instead, all they need to answer is some experience or fact they do know. It makes sure the research is objective.
All the interviewers are older than 44. And the oldest one is 84 years old. All of them live in China all their life. It means in 1978 when “Reform and Ope ning” began, even the youngest interviewer was already 8 years old. And this event will keep going during the next 36 years. They have still have flesh memory to it.
Here are the facture findings from five interviewers.
Qiang Kong: Before “Reform and Ope ning” I was not allow to buy what ever I want or as
much as you want, even you have enough money. You have to every thing with resource-ticket and it was usually not enough for you.
Qingjing Kong: I was not allowed to find a job I want. I have to get the job from government. If you refuse the job, you can’t get the job from any other place. Now you are free to do what ever you want.
Yuluan Zhong: In 1970s, there was no import product in China. So we don’t have air-conditioners, cars, fridge for selling. And some resource like pens, clocks, milks was quite expensive. Now you can buy the product all around the world
Shimin Li: Magazines, music, novels, movies from western country was “evil”. If you watch a HK TV programs or listen American pop music, you will be in big trouble. Maybe you will lose your job. Now you can get the information, watch the movies, read the articles, around the world. (Actually government tries to stop it, but there’s nothing they can do in internet time)
Jing Li: After “Reform and Ope ning”, I become more open-mind, knowledgeable. I learnt to be friend with people with different background different religion.
