怀化学院是 2002年经国家教育部批准成立的全 日制普通高等学校,初创于1958年,前身是怀 化师范高等专科学校. Huaihua university is a full--time institute of higher education approved by Ministry of Education. Her predecessor, Huaihua Normal Academy, was established in early 1958.
学校现有在职教职工 920人,其中专任教师 600多人,含教授60人,副教授183人,博士, 硕士361人(含在读),被外校聘为硕,博士 生导师5人,省级青年骨干教师30人.教师中 15人获得过曾宪梓教育基金奖,1人获"全国 五一劳动奖章"7人分别获得 "全国优秀教 师","全国教育系统劳动模范"称号.
学校占地面积 1010亩,建筑面积 400000平方米,有东,西两个校区办学,校 园依山涵湖,钟灵毓秀,楼群林立,满园苍 翠. The university totally covers 1010 mu including 400,000 square meters of building area. It consists of east and west campuses . With green hills , emerald lakes , high buildings and dense forests, the university pregnant with beauty and talent has turned out to be an ideal place for study.
After a long development, the university has become a teaching-oriented,application, oriented and multidisciplinary one with eight disciplines ( Literal arts ,Science , Engineering,Economy,Law,Education, , , , , Administration and Agriculture), paying equal attention to teacher and non-teacher education and focusing on undergraduate education. It has trained many talents at high level for local economic and social development. Our students come from 25 provinces,cities and , autonomous regions in the country. The university, well equipped both in teaching and research facilities, has a good environment for schooling. The university library holds an existing stock of 1,000,000 books and over 1,400 Chinese and foreign language periodicals. It has built several special teaching laboratories such as Digital Information, Analog Information,Chemical , , Engineering,Biological Engineering, , , Exercise Technological Analysis,Video , Appreciation and Making. The teaching instruments has totally valued over 60,000,000 RMB.

There are three railways (Xiangqian, , Zhiliu, Yuhuai) and two national , highways(No.209 and 320) and Shangrui superhighway across the city .It takes Zhangjiajie (a place of interest well known both at home and abroad ) and Fenghuang ( a tourist attraction in Xiangxi) as its neighbors .

At present, the university has active staff of 920,in which there are more than 600 professional teachers, including 60 professors,183 associate professors, 361 doctors and masters (those on study are also included). Among them, 5 teachers have been employed by other universities as advisors of masters and doctors, 30 have been honored as young provincial backbone teachers, 15 have got the prize of Zeng Xianzi Education Fund, 5 have enjoyed the National Special Allowances, 1 have won the National May Day Medal and 7 have respectively acquired the title of "National Excellent Teachers" and "National Education System Model ".
