And now, the ban has extended to several suburbs, including Mentougou, Fangs- han, Tongzhou, Shunyi, Daxing, Pinggu and Miyun. The barbecue ban was announced to reduce Beijing' s air pollution, as barbecue has long been accused as one of the major contributors to haze.According to Wang Yuesi, a researcher from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics in Chinese Academy of Sciences, barbecuing can generate a lot of PM 2.5, harmful airborne particles measur- ing less than 2.5 microns in diameter."Considering the seriousness of the air pollution in Beijing,we have to ban everything that may do harm to our environment!" Wang said. The issue has divided Chinese netizens, as half agreed with the policy while the other half called this grand plan nothing but "empty talk. "A sample of comments from Weibo :" Why don' t those petrochemical plants, power stations and other heavy industries be banned? What is the Ministry of Environmental Protection going to do next? We still need to eat, so please allow us to cook!""Right decisions to resolve PM2.5 pollution problems, the option which made by governors is legalistic reserve for 'pubhc profits' courses," some people said.范文Beijing has released many rules and policies to deal with themost eyecatching environmental issues now--smog. Recently, a new regulation was announced that the region of banning of outdoorbarbecues is going to be ex- tended from the downtown to countryside. The government claims barbecue causes great air pollution andis the major culprit of environmentally harmful substances to theair which meet that standard of PM 2.5.This policy caused great controversy among the citizens in those areas. Some advocates are willing to give up their rights of enjoyingthe outdoor barbecue, in order to make contribution to the environment. But the others tagged this policy as "empty talk", as they are more concerned about the pollution from the chemical toxins from the heavy industries. In my opinion, it is essential to take some steps to protectthe environment in Beijing. We should support it ff this measureshow the function that keeps the air cleaner. What is more, to eat less barbecue is not a bad idea, asbarbecue is not healthy.专业资料学习资料教育培训考试建筑装潢资料。

British medical schools give priority to Britons , and Canada’s world-renowned McGill University School of Medicine takes only a handful of well qualified Americans annually. Swimming , hiking , boating , fishing—the days were not long enough to contain all of our activities. There never seemed to be enough time to go to church, which disturbed some friends and relations. Accused of neglecting this part of our education,my father instituted a summer school for my brother and me . However, his summer course included ancient history, which Papa felt our schools neglected ,and navigation, in which we first had a formal examination in the dining room, part of which consisted of tying several knots in a given time limit. Then we were each separately sent on what was grandly referred to as a cruise in my father’s 18-foot knockabout, spending the night on board, and loaded down, according to my mother, with enough food for a week. I remember that on my cruise I was required to formally plot our course, using the tide table, even though our goal was an island I could see quite clearly across the water in the distance.43. Although science has made enormous steps in making food more fit to eat, it has , at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percentof cancer is related to the diet as well, especially cancer of the colon . Different cultures are more prone to contract certain illnesses because of the food that is characteristic in these cultures. That food related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945 , government researchers realized that nitrates and nitrites, commonly used to preserve color in meats, and other food additives, caused cancer. Yet, these carcinogenic additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all the time to know which things on the packaging labels of processed food are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to beef and poultry, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cows. Sometimes similar drugs are administered to animals not for medicinal purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tried repeatedly to control these procedures, the practices continue.48. What is the main topic of the passage?A. After a busy day of work and play, the body needs to rest. Sleep is necessary for good health. During this time, the body recovers from the activities of the previous day. The rest that you get while sleeping enables your body to prepare itself for the next day.

Text 2
Obviously television has both advantages and disadvantages.
In the first place, television is not only a convenient source of entertainment, but also a comparatively cheap one. With a TV set in the family people don’t have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre, the cinema, or the opera .All they have to so is to push a button or turn a knob, and they can see plays, films, operas and shows of every kind. Some people, however, think that this is where the danger lies. The television viewers need do nothing. He does not even have to use his legs if the has a remote control. He makes no choice and exercises, no judgment. He is completely passive and has everything presented to him without any effort in his part.
Television, it is often said, keeps one informed about current events and the latest developments in science and politics. The most distant countries and the strangest customs are brought right into one’s sitting room. It could be argued that the radio performs this service as well; but on television everything is much more living, much more real. Yet here again there is a danger. The television screen
itself has a terrible, almost physical charm for us. We get so used to looking at the movements on it ,so dependent on
its pictures, that it begins to control our lives. People are often heard to say that their television sets have broken down and that they have suddenly found that they have far more time to do things and the they have actually begin to
tal k to each other again. It makes one think, doesn’t it?
There are many other arguments for and against television. We must realize that television itself is neither good nor bad. It is the uses that it is put to that determine its value to society.。
