Wuthering Heights---- a gothic story, Satan like insane love story. Theme of nature , romance, revenge, social position and selfcontradiction. Title: “wuthering ” Yorkshire dialect for “weathering”, which is indicative of “ the tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather” .

①Its social criticism is found in its vivid
description of the life of a poor orphan is left to fight for her own rights of equality and independence, seeking for own fulfillment and realization; the brutality and hypocrisy of the English educational system are also exposed in the example of Lowood school where children live in harsh conditions and are trained to be humble slaves.

5.the characters of Heathcliff
①self-esteem and self abasement: they are the two blades of a sword of human beings. People tend to protect their self-abasement by extreme self-esteem when they feel inferior to others . Heathcliff , who lives in the crack, he faces Hindely’s swear and torment with cool, proud feeling to keep his self-esteem. On the other hand, his lack of origin lead to his indifference, loneliness and selfabasemve--Linton.
