4机械工程专业英语第四课翻译的基本方法–增词与减词Skills of Translation –adding and reducing words三、增词与减词(一)增词译法:在对英文进行翻译时,若按字面翻译,句子的结构不完善,或句子的含义不明确,或词汇的概念不清晰时,需要增加某些词语,以便更完善、清楚地表达英语句子的内容。
例:Efficiency costs money, safety adds complexity, performanceincreases weight.直译:效率花费金钱,安全增加复杂性,性能增加重量。
增词译法:对设备(或器件)来说,要提高效率就要增加成本,要想保证安全势必要增加其复杂程度,而要改善性能就要增加其重量。
1. 增加表示时态的概念的词英语中表达时态的词往往是没有词义的,翻译时必须用一些中文词将其表达出来:Balloons were (and are) usually filled with hydrogen.气球过去(和现在)一般都用氢气来充气。

➢It is an important hot-forming process. It is used in producing components of all shapes and sizes, from quite small items to large units weighing several tons. ➢It is the process by which metal is heated and is shaped by plastic deformation by suitably applying compressive force. ➢One valuable feature of forging is that it improves the strength of the metal by refining the structure and making it uniform.
For example, the diameter of a bar can be increased by heating and hammering axially.

2. closed-die forging 闭式锻模
❖ It is very widely used for mass production in industry, in which the metal is shaped by pressing between a pair of forging dies. 闭式锻模在工业上广泛用于规模生产,金属在一对锻模之间挤压成型。

Hand forging tools comprise variously shaped hammers. 手工锻造工具包括各种不同形状的锤子。
❖ Makeup:The upper die is usually attached to the ram of a forging press or a forging hammer, while the lower die is stationary. Together they form a closed die. 组成:顶模通常放在锻压机的撞头或锻锤上,而底模则是固定的。 两者合在一起形成闭式锻模。
❖ Dies : The dies are made of special heat-resistant and wearresistant tool steels. 模具:闭式锻模采用特殊的耐热、耐磨工具钢制成。
❖ Application:for the rapid production of large numbers of fairly small parts and very large components.
