题型三阅读理解【选择型阅读】( A )(2019德阳) Personal computers and the Internet give people new choices about how to spend their time. Some may use this freedom to share less time with certain friends or family members, but the new technology will also let them communicate more with those they care most about.I know this from personal experience.Email makes it easy to work at home.I spend most weekends and evenings at home.My working hours aren’t much shorter than they once were but I spend fewer of them at the office. This lets me share more time with my young daughter than I might have if she’d been Some organizations and writers say that Britain needs to become more natural again. They suggest that trees and plants that grew in the UK before towns and cities were built should be allowed to growagain. They even say that large wild animals which have not lived in the UK should be helped to return and live wild. They call this “rewilding”.Not everyone agrees. In the last twenty years, over one million trees which at first grew in Scotland have been planted and there are plans for more—but wild animals? Some people ask if wolves will attack sheep or even humans. They are also angry that rewilding might mean an end to walking in the hills which so many people enjoy. So far there are no wolves or bears in Britain’s forests—but soon there might be!根据材料内容选择最佳答案。

Now she completed visiting every UN nation in the world, all 193, in November 2023.“When I went to the movies, I saw this beautiful background about the scenery, the nature, the rivers, the mountains, and that fascinated me,” Yu said. “That’s why I always thought someday I will go to these places and travel. At 23, as an exchange student studying medical technologies in the US, Yu decided that she wanted to visit all of the countries in the world, but visa restrictions didn’t allow her to travel outside of the country. She decided to explore the US via Greyhound buses. She saved her vacation time from working at Miami, Florida hospitals and was able to take long trips across the US. There are only two states that Yu has yet to visit—Kentucky and Oklahoma. It took Yu 15 years to get her green card that would allow her to travel internationally and there were times that she worked three jobs to save money to travel. The Miami resident eventually took a part-time job as a travel agent, which gave her many more opportunities to travel to new places around the globe. In the past 50 years, Yu has been visiting countries across the world, even some that are very tough to get into. She has tried several kinds of meat when she visited North Korea, explored the beaches of Somalia, and even skydived in Dubai when she was 73.Yu’s advice to people who are fond of traveling is to just do it. This is a truly transformative piece of public health policy that could see an end to tobacco use in England. The policy will see the legal age for being sold tobacco rise by one year each year from 2027. While the proposed age increase approach is novel, we know that raising the age of purchasing works. Smoking rates dropped by 30 per cent among young people within a year when the legal age increased from 16 to 18 in 2007. The drop was closer to 40 per cent among the target age group when it was raised from 18 to 21 in the US.There are concerns among some that the new policy could drive an illegal market, but the evidence doesn’t back this up.Since 2000 the illegal market for tobacco has declined from 22 per cent to 11 per cent despite raising the age of purchasing to 18, banning smoking in public places, introducing plain packaging, and continued price rises. Furthermore, the focus of the policy is to prevent people taking up smoking —no one who can currently buy tobacco will be unable to do so — making it unlikely there will be an increased demand for illegal tobacco.Online sales may also present their own difficulty as the new policy comes into force, with digital retailers (零售商) having responsibility to check on the age of customers remotely. The government is promising “enhancing online age verification (验证)” but it w ould be far simpler to ban online tobacco sales altogether, as recommended in a recent independent government review.8. Who will be restricted by the new policy?A.Heavy smokers. B.Cigarette sellers.C.The tobacco growers. D.The tobacco advertisers.9. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?A.The benefit of the policy. B.The novelty of the policy.C.The target people of the policy. D.The content of the policy.10. What do some people worry about?A.The price of tobacco will go up. B.More people will pick up smoking.C.The tax from tobacco may decrease. D.The illegal tobacco markets will boom. 11. What will happen to online tobacco sales with the new policy in effect?A.It will encounter resistance. B.It will face a new challenge.C.It will have simplified process. D.It will make more profits.Around and around they go — dogs are often seen chasing (追逐) their tails. There are several possible reasons for this behavior, as well as ways to thwart it.Puppies and younger dogs may simply chase their own tails for fun. Puppies, especially, may not yet realize their tails are actually part of their own bodies.Boredom may be another reason, especially when dogs are left alone for a long time. “Anytime a dog is not enriched or exercised fully, they have the potential to be bored,” Russell Hartstein, a dog behavioral consultant said. For these dogs, a simple solution may be to play fetch or take a walk. Most dogs would rather chase a ball than their own tails.Another reason dogs may chase their tails is to seek attention. A dog’s owner may have rewarded this behavior by laughing or praising it. Even blaming a dog for tail chasing may draw attention that enhances this behavior. To control tail chasing, ignore the behavior while otherwise supplying the dog with a healthy amount of attention.Unluckily, a number of physical diseases are linked with tail chasing. An injury to the tail, itching; or reaction to some food may cause dogs to bite or chase their tails. If dogs suddenly start chasing or biting their tails, the owners should schedule a visit with their vet.“Interestingly, we found that dogs that received dietary supplements (补充剂), especially vitamins and minerals, expressed less tail chasing compared to dogs that did not receive any supplements,” Hart stein said. “In addition, compared with dogs that didn’t chase their tails, tail chasers were often shyer and had separated earlier from their mothers.”If a dog is otherwise healthy, “practicing dog training and engaging their mental and emotional aspects of their lives will help stop tail chasing,” Hartstein said. “There’s no harm in training more with your dog and making sure they are fulfilled and enriched in every way possible.”12. What does the underlined word “thwart” in paragraph 1 probably mean?A.Punish. B.Record. C.Convey. D.Handle.13. What can be learned about dog’s chasing its tail from Para.5?A.It is a normal scene for fun. B.It is an indication of lacking exercise.C.It is a sign of a problem. D.It is a behavior of seeking attention. 14. What may be Hartstein’s suggestion?A.Practicing dog training at the vet’s.B.Encouraging dogs to chase tails to relax.C.Giving dogs a small number of vitamins. D.Getting puppies independent as early aspossible.15. What can be the best title for the text?A.Why Do Dogs Chase Their Tails? B.Can Dogs Communicate by Tails?C.What Functions Do Dog Tails Have? D.Does Every Dog Like Chasing Its Tail?A few useful sketching (素描) tips can often generate rewarding results. If you are a beginner, you should find something useful from the tips below.Know your pencils. Having the right pencil to begin drawing your pencil sketch is one of the most essential sketching tips. Pencils differ in lead (铅笔芯). 16 : “B” pencil s are softer, “H” are harder, and “HB” sit s in the middle. It is recommended to start somewhere on the H scale as a foundation and then finish with the darker B scale.17 . If you position your hand closer to the end of the pencil, you have more control and precision, but darker markings. Gripping (握) further up the pencil will give you less control and precision, but lighter markings.Vary your lines. Not all lines are equal. Small shifts in the width and darkness of your lines will create a dynamic drawing. 18 . However, with practice you will be able to create a variety of marks that work together to make an impressive image. Experiment with different pencil grades and with holding the pencil at different angles.Apply the 70/30 rule in your sketching. 19 ! The 70/30 rule helps you create effective compositions. The idea is that 30 per cent of your sketch is filled with the main focus and detail, and the remaining 70 per cent is filler. This less interesting area helps direct attention towards the main subject of your artwork.Try different mark-making methods. There are plenty of sketching tips and techniques to help you achieve different styles and effects. 20 .A crow (乌鸦) became rabbits’ friend.

Exercise early in life seems to have lifelong benefits for the brain, in rats at least.“This is an animal study, but it shows that physical activity at a young age is very important--not just for physical development, but for the whole lifelong track of cognitive (认知的) development during ageing,” says Martin Wojtowicz of the University of Toronto, Canada. “In humans, it may delay the appearance of Alzheimer’s symptoms (阿兹海默氏症),possibly to the point of preventing them.”Wojtowicz’s team divided 80 young male rats into two equal groups, and placed running wheels in the cages of one group for a period of six weeks. Around four months later - when the rats had reached middle age--the team taught all the rats to connect an electric shock with being in a specific box. When placed in the box, they froze with fear. Two weeks later, the team tested the rats in three situations: exactly the same box in the same room, the same box with the room arranged differently, and a completely different box in a different room. The rats without access to a running wheel when they were young now froze the same percentage of times in each of these situations, suggesting they couldn’t remember which one was dangerous. But those that had been able to run in their youth froze40 to 50 percent less in both changed box settings.“The results suggest the amount of physical activity when we' re young, at least for rats, has influence on brain and cognitive health—in the form of better memories when we're older,"says Arthur Kramer of Northeastern University in Boston, who has found that, in humans, exercise promotes the growth of new brain cells.(Words:316)24.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragrap h 2 refer to?A.Study.B. What is the author’s attitude towards the animal study?A. Doubtfu l.B. Objective.C. Critical.D. Negative.CTeaching PoetryNo poem should ever be discussed or “analyzed”, until it has been read aloud by someone, teacher or student. Better still, perhaps, is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end, so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it.All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally, the most telling “interpretation” of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on film, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching can not replace the student and teacher reading it or, bestof all, reciting it.I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than “analysing” it, if there isn’t time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is “a criticism of life”, and “a heightening of life”. It is “an approach to the truth of feeling”, and it “can save your life”. It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies.I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. Those who don’t like it should not be forced to communicate this to anyone else. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.(Words:312)28. To have a better understanding of a poem, one should______.A. analyze it by oneselfB. discuss it with othersC. practise reading it aloudD. copy it down in a notebook29. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a function of poetry?A.Extending your lifeB. Saving your lifeC. Criticizing lifeD. Heightening life30. The last sentence in the third paragraph imply_______.A. The teaching of poetry is more important than any other subject.B. More importance should be given to the teaching of poetry.C. Poetry is the foundation of all language and literature courses.D. One cannot enjoy life fully without an understanding of poetry.31. The underlined phrase “make room” in the l ast paragraph could be best replaced by ______ .A. provide equipmentB. build a schoolC. set up a houseD. leave a certain amount of timeDNASA, the U. S. space agency, believes there’s a good chance that we’re notalone in the universe. Last fall, NASA began a new project called the High Resolution Microwave Survey (HRMS). Its aim is to find evidence of life in one of the billions of galaxies in the universe. The search for intelligent life on other planets isn’t new. It began almost 100 years ago. That’s when scientists bu ilt a huge transmitter to send radio waves into space. Scientists thought smart intelligent beings on other planets might pick up the signals.Scientists have also sent a message about humans and our solar system to a nearby constellation (星座). But because the constellation is 25,000 light years away, a return message wouldn’t reach the earth for 50,000 years! So don’t wait up for an answer. So far, no extraterrestrial (境外的) beings that we know of have returned our “calls”. But according to Dr Jill Tarter, an HRMS scientist, we haven’t exactly had our ears wide open. “Now, however,” says Dr Tarter, “we’ve built the tools we need to listen well.”Last October, Dr Tarter switched on the largest radio receiver in the world. It’s an enormous metal bowl stretching 1,000 feet across a valley in Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, another NASA scientist turned on a huge radio receiver in California’s Mojave Desert. NASA hopes these big dishes and others around the world will pick up radio signals from a new world.Dr Frank Drake has been searching for life in outer space for years. He explains the HRMS project this way: To listen to your radio, you move the tuner on the dial until the channels come in loud and clear. Now imagine radio receivers that scan our galaxy “listening” to 14 million channels every second. That’s what NASA’s radio receivers in Puerto Rico and California are doing. But that’s not all. Powerful computers hooked to the receivers examine every signal carefully. The computers try to match the signals to ones that scientists already recognize, such as human-made signals. If they can’t, Drake and Tarter check on them. “It could prove there is radio technology elsewhere in the universe,” says Dr Tarter. “And that would mean we’re not alone.” (Words:418)32. NASA scientists started a new project so as to_______.A. discover life in other galaxiesB. confirm the number of galaxiesC. send human beings into spaceD. find evidence of a new galaxy33. Dr Jill Tarter compare the new large receiver to_______.A. the universeB. the human earC.a huge dishD.a metal bowl34. According to Dr Frank Drake, NASA’s radio receivers in Puerto Rico and California are ____.A. moving the tuner on the dial for clear channelsB. picking up radio signals from new worldC. trying to check on every channel carefullyD. scanning the universe for possible signals35. The best title for this passage is_______.A. The Invention of New Radio ReceiversB. Sig nals from SpaceC. NASA listens for Neighbors in SpaceD.
