Title: Travel around the world

Lesson Type: Vocabulary, Reading

Length: 45min

Period: the 1st period

Teaching Objectives:

By the end of the class, students will be able to:

1.Recognize and read the following words and expressions: France, French, flag, wine, tick, possible, with, be famous for, why not, etc.

2. Reading skills:

a. Scan and skim the text to get the general idea and main idea.

b. Guess the meaning of some words in the text: excellent, prefer, et

c.

c. Read the text and predict some important language points: be famous for, with, prefer to, etc.

3.Shift their learning attitudes from passive learning to autonomous learning.

Important Points:

1. Recognition of words and expressions: French, tick, possible, with,

prefer to, etc.

2. Read to get the general idea of an article

3. Guess out the meaning of some new words while reading. Difficult Points:

1. Meaning guessing of new words

2. Usage of “with”

Teaching Method: Audio-lingual Method

Teaching Aids: video, PPT, blackboard, chalks

Teaching Procedure:

Ⅰ. Lead-in (3-4min)

1. Greetings

2. T plays a video about France to arouse Ss’ interests about France.

3. Presentation (Right→)

4. T presents 3 questions for Ss to get the background of the reading material.

Ⅱ.Pre-reading: words study (5min )

1. T lists out the new words on the PPTs and

explains them briefly to Ss. 2. T leads Ss to link the words in the same line

Ⅲ. While-reading(27-28min):

Step1. Scan and skim (5min)

1. T asks Ss to scan and skim the title of the text and underline the topic sentence of each paragraph.

2. T asks Ss the main idea of the text and each paragraph.

Step2. Guessing words (7-8min)

1. T asks Ss to find out the four italics

(exercise C) from the text.

2. Ss guess the meanings by

understanding the whole sentence.

3. Ss check the answers with each

other.

4. T shows the answers to Ss.

Step3. Intensive Reading (15-17 min)

1.T asks Ss to read the whole text carefully and mark some language points which they suppose and predict is important and necessary.

2. T asks several Ss to write down their language points on the board and

to share their understanding of the points with their classmates.

3. If necessary, T adds some important points to the Ss’ points and makes some knowledge extensions.

Ⅳ. Post-reading: review (3-4min)

1. T lists out some important language points on the PPT: prefer to, with, be famous for (as), why not, etc.

2. T asks Ss to make one sentence to each point.

Ⅴ. Homework and Answering (1-3min)

1. Complete C2 on page18.

2. Read up the article on page17 and digest the language points in it.

3. Surf the Internet or read some books to know more about France or Europe.
