This is a tale of two friends—one is blind, the other has no arms. On their own, the two are
"disabled" . But together, they are a powerful team that has changed part of their village in North China's Hebei Province into a rich, green forest. Meet 53-year-old Jia Haixia and Jia Wenqi!
Their story began in 2000, when Haixia, who was already blind in his right eye, lost his left one after an illness. Wenqi lost his arms in an accident when he was just three. Neither could find a job, so the two decided to team up. They rented some poor land and began to plant trees. In return, the local officials paid them a small fee. Haixia and Wenqi never imagined that they would end up creating an environmental paradise. Their forest now has over 10, 000 trees, hundreds of birds and many other wild animals. In addition, it saves the village from river flooding during the rainy season. When the friends work together, they focus on their strengths not their disabilities. Their day begins at 7 a.m. when the sightless Haixia carries Wenqi across the river to get to their worksite. Since they cannot afford to buy young trees to plant, the two use branches from existing trees. Haixia climbs to the tree-top and with Wenqi's direction, selects the perfect branch. He then digs a hole and carefully plants it. Finally Wenqi waters the area.
Though hard-working, the men don't make much money. But as Wenqi puts it, " We stand on our own feet, so the fruits of our work taste sweeter ."
Neither Haixia nor Wenqi cares about money. Together, they already have everything they need—a perfect pair of eyes, two strong hands, and the best friendship in the world!

(5)When you think of the Arctic, you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on Earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic trash, and now, CNN says, "It's the Arctic's turn."
German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow, the Associated Press reported. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1, 800 pieces of microplastics per liter of snow.
How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic? According to scientists, "It's obvious that the majority of the microplastics in the snow comes from the air. " They fall off of plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix mith ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow.Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in. An even higher amount of microplastic was found in the snow around cities.
The high concentrations found in snow samples suggest microplastics, which contain rubber or chemicals used in synthetic fabrics (混合纤维), may cause significant air pollution.
Are they bad for us? Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the World Health Organization. We do know that our bodies cannot take in "large" pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What's more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk, heightening the need to further assess the risks of taking them in, the study said.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Previous research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, damaging ecosystems along the way. They start in our wastewater, when we wash clothes with plastic fibers. The wastewater then flows into rivers and out to sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we're eating the plastic as well.
4 A.The ocean. B.The air. C.The land. D.The river.

Doctor Seuss was born in 1904. By the middle 1950s, he had become one of the best-loved
and most successful children's book writers in the world. His books are very popular with young readers. They enjoy the invented words and the pictures of unusual funny animals and plants. In 1954, life magazine published a report about school children who could not read. The report said many children's books were not interesting. Doctor Seuss strongly hoped to help children and decided to write books that were interesting and easy to read. He used words with the same ending sound, like fish and wish. He did not receive training in art. Yet, he drew the pictures for most of his books.
In 1957, Dr. Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat. He used less than 230 words to write the book and even a six-year-old child should be able to read it. It was a fun story and easy to read.
Children loved it. Their parents loved it, too. Today it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of The Cat in the Hat made him want to write more books for children. In 1960, he wrote a book using less than fifty words. The book is called Green Eggs and Ham.
In 1984, Doctor Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize (普利策奖). He was honored for the education and enjoyment. He died at the age of 87, but his influence remains. Millions of his books have been sold worldwide. A.B.C.D.If you are in Shanghai and want to throw away a cup of milk tea, be careful. 1 : first,
pour out any leftover (残留物)into a wet waste bin; second, put the paper wrapper into a recyclable waste bin; third, throw the single-use cup and straw (吸管 )into a dry waste bin.
Sound complex (复杂的)? You'll have to get used to it. From July I on, people in Shanghai are required to sort their garbage according to strict rules. 2 .
Why should we sort our garbage? The answer lies in the increasing amount of waste we are producing. Chinese cities produce over 200 million tons of waste each year, according to China Economic Net. Most of this waste is buried in landfills (垃圾填埋场), which may pollute water and soil. 3
In fact, more than half of our waste can be recycled. Recyclable garbage can be made into new materials, while wet garbage can be used to make gas, heat and fertilizer (肥料). 4
Can't garbage-processing companies do the sorting job for us? They can. But that requires a lot of work and costs lots of money. 5 . Besides, the troublesome task of sorting might encourage people to produce less waste. Do you still want to bay that milk tea?
Many other cities in China are planning to create similar garbage-sorting rules.
But in order to recycle efficiently (有效率地), we need to sort our garbage.
Things will become much easier if each of us can sort our own garbage.
Moreover, we are running out of space for new landfills.
