Teaching aims:
1. Enable the Ss to know about the history of accounting.
2. Enable the Ss to learn some knowledge about the father of
accounting−Pacioli.
3. Let the Ss learn the reading skill of getting the main idea of each paragraph & each passage.
Main points
1. Enable the Ss to study the new words of the text and the accounting terms
2. Enable the Ss to understand the meaning of the text.
Difficult points
1. How to grasp the main idea of each paragraph & each passage.
Teaching methods
1. Skimming & scanning methods: To make the Ss get a good
understanding of the text.
2. Task-based teaching method: To make the Ss grasp what they’ve learned in class.
3. Pair works of group: To get every student to take part in the teaching-and-learning activities.
4. Competition and role-play method: To arouse the Ss’ interest
Teaching procedures
Step 1 Leading in
(Group competition and introduction of Pacioli——the father of accounting.)
1. Check the answers to the quiz to find out which group knows the most.
2. Ask the Ss to introduce Pacioli——the father of accounting.

Step 2 Warming up
1. Ask the Ss to finish the exercises of word study.
(Y ou can find the Ex in the Textbook P10 Fill in the blanks with the words from the box below.)
2. Ask the Ss to listen to the recorder and fill in the blanks of the text with the missing words.
(Show the exercises on the computer screen.)
Q1: Pacioli was a mathematician and friend of Leonardo da Vinci.
Q2: Pacioli’s famous book made him a celebrity and insured him a place in history, as “The Father of Accounting."
Step 3 Reading comprehension
1.Fast Reading:Read the text quickly and find out the answers to the questions.
Design some questions about the text to help the Ss understand the meaning of the text.
Show the questions on the computer screen.
Q1: In 1494, one section of Pacioli’s famous book was dedicated to the description of double-entry accounting.
Q2:Pacioli’s system included most of today’s accounting routines.
2. Careful reading: Read the text carefully and fill in the chart
Design a chart about the text to ask the Ss to fill in with the missing words in order to help the Ss understand the meaning of the text.
Show the chart on the computer screen.
