And it appreciates how new, unforeseen technologies or social changes can solve current problems.By contrast, the environmental movement has been built on crisisContrary to the doomsayers, both past anti present, people have a knack for innovating their way out of "crises" if they have both the permission and the incentive to do so. We find that people developed petroleum as whale oil became scarce, that farmers turned to drip irrigation as water prices rose, and that drivers bought fuel-efficient cars when gas prices went up.To a large degree, green ideology is not about facts. It is about values, and the environment movement is about enforcing those values through political action.—“Greenpolitics,’’ write British greens Jonathan Porritt a nd David Winner, “demands a wholly new ethic in which violent, plundering human kind abandons its destructive ways, recognizes its dependence on Planet Earth, and starts living on a more equal footing with the rest of nature..... The danger lies not only in the odd maverick (—意孤行者)polluting factory, industry,or technology, but in the fundamental nature of our economic systems. It is industrialism itself ——a super-ideology, embraced by the capitalist West which threatens us.【答案】(1)动态的观点既能看到变化的好处,也能看到变化的坏处。

单选题The British psychoanalyst John Bowl by maintains that separation from the parents during the sensitive "attachment" period from birth to three may scar a child's personality and predispose to emotional problems in later life. Some people have drawn the conclusion from Bowlby's work that children should not be subjected to day care before the age of three because of the parental separation it entails, and many people do believe this. But there are also arguments against such a strong conclusion.Firstly, anthropologists point out that the insulated love affair between children and parents found in modern societies does not usually exist in traditional societies. For example, we saw earlier that among the Ngoni the father and mother of a child did not rear their infant alone—far from it.Secondly, common sense tells us that day care would not be so widespread today if parents, caretakers found children had problems with it. Statistical studies of this kind have not yet been carried out, and even if they were, the results would be certain to be complicated and controversial.Thirdly, in the last decade, there have been a number of careful American studies of children in day care, and they have uniformly reported that day care had a neutral or slightly positive effect on children's development. But tests that have had to be used to measure this development are not widely enough accepted to settle the issue. But Bowlby’s analysis raises the possibility that early day care has delayed effects. The possibility that such care might lead to, say, more mental illness or crime 15 or 20 years later can only be explored by the use of statistics. Whatever the long-term effects, parents sometimes find the immediate effects difficult to deal with. Children under three are likely to protest at leaving their parents and show unhappiness. At the age of three or three and a half almost all children find the transition to nursery easy, and this is undoubtedly why more and more parents make use of child care at this time. The matter, then, is far from clear-cut, though experience and available evidence indicate that early care is reasonable for infants.1.The phrase “predispose to” (Para. 1, line 2) most probably means().2.According to Bowlby’s analysis, it is quite possible that().3.It is implied but not stated in the second paragraph that().4.The writer concludes that(). A.lead toB.dispose toC.get intoD.tend to suffer问题2选项A.children’s personalities will be changed to some extent through separation from their parents.B.early day care can delay the occurrence of mental illness in children.C.children will be exposed to many negative effects from early day care later on.D.some long-term effects can hardly be reduced from children’s development. A.traditional societies separate the child from the parent at an early age.B.Children in modern societies cause more troubles than those in traditional societies.C.A child did not live together with his parents among the Ngoni.D.Children in some societies did not have emotional problems when separated from the parents A.it is difficult to make clear what is the right age for nursery schoolB.it is not settled now whether early care is reasonable for childrenC.it is not beneficial for children to be sent to nursery schoolD.it is reasonable to subject a child above three to nursery school【答案】第1题:D第2题:C第3题:A第4题:D【解析】第1题:判断推理题。

The biographer has to dance between two shaky positions with respect to the subject. Too close a relation, and the writer may lose objectivity. Not close enough, and the writer may lack the sympathy necessary to any effort to portray a mind, a soul---the quality of life. Who should write the biography of a family, for example? Because of their closeness to the subject, family members may have special information, but by the same token, they may not have the distance that would allow them to be fair. Similarly, a king's servant might not be the best one to write a biography of that king. But a foreigner might not have the knowledge and sympathy necessary to write the king's biography---not for a readership from within the kingdom, at any rate. There is no ideal position for such a task. The biographer has to work in the position he or she has in the world, adjusting that position as necessary to deal with the subject. Every position has strengths and weaknesses: to thrive, a writer must try to become aware of these, evaluate them in terms of the subject, and select a position accordingly. When their subjects are heroes or famous figures, biographies often reveal a democratic motive: the attempt to show that their subjects are only human, no better than anyone else. Other biographies are meant to change us, to invite us to become better than we are. The biographies of Jesus found in the Bible are this class.Biographers may claim that their account is the "authentic" one. In advancing this claim, they are helped if the biography is "authorized" by the subject: this presumably allows biographer special access to private information. "Unauthorized" biographies also have their appeal, however, since they can suggest an independence of mind in the biographer. In book promotions, he "unauthorized" characterization usually suggests the prospect of juicy gossip that the subject had hoped to suppress, A subject might have several biographies, even several "authentic" ones. We sense intuitively that no one is in a position to tell the "story" of a life, perhaps not even the subjects, and this has been proved by the history of biography.1.The author cites the biographies of Jesus in the Bible in order to show that ().2.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?3.An unauthorized biography is likely to attract more readers because().4.In this passage, the author focuses on(). A.biographies can serve different purposesB.biographies are authentic accounts of their subjects' livesC.the best biographies are those of heroes and famous figuresD.the best biographies are meant to transform their readers问题2选项A.An authentic biography seldom appeals to its readers.B.An authentic biography is one authorized by the subject.C.Authorized biographies have a wider readership.D.No one can write a perfect biography. A.it portrays the subjects both faithfully and vividlyB.it reveals a lot of accurate details unknown to outsidersC.it contains interesting information about the subject's private lifeD.it usually gives a sympathetic description of the subject's character问题4选项A.the secret of a biographer to win more readersB.the difficulty of a biographer in finding the proper perspective to do his jobC.the techniques required of a biographer to write a good biographyD.the characteristics of different kinds of biographies【答案】第1题:A第2题:D第3题:C第4题:B【解析】第1题:细节事实题。

单选题Pop stars today enjoy a style of living which was once the prerogative only of royalty. Wherever they go, people turn out in their thousands to greet them. The crowds go wild trying to catch a brief glimpse of their smiling, colorfully dressed idols. The stars are transported in their chauffeur driven Rolls-Royces, private helicopters or executive airplanes. They are surrounded by a permanent entourage of managers, press agents and body guards. Photographs of them appear regularly in the press and all their comings and goings are reported for, like Royalty pop stars are news. If they enjoy many of the privileges of Royalty, they certainly share many of the inconveniences as well. It is dangerous for them to make unscheduled appearance in public. They must be constantly shielded from the adoring crowds which idolize them. They are no longer private individuals, but public property. The financial rewards they receive for this sacrifice can not be calculated, for their rates of pay are astronomical. And why not? Society has always rewarded its top entertainers lavishly. The great days of Hollywood have become legendary famous stars enjoying fame, wealth adulation on an unprecedented scale. By today's standards, the excesses of Hollywood do not seem quite so spectacular. A single gramophone record nowadays may earn much more in royalties than the film of the past ever did. The competition for the title “Top of the Pop” is fierce, but the rewards are truly colossal! It is only right that the stars should be paid in this way. Don't the top men in industry earn enormous salaries for the services they perform to their companies? Pop stars earn vast sums in foreign currency---often more than large industrial concerns---and the taxman can only be grateful for their massive annual contributions to the exchequer. So who would begrudge them their rewards? It’s all very well for people in humdrum jobs to moan about the s uccesses and rewards of others. People who make envious remarks should remember that the most famous stars represent only the tip of the iceberg. For every famous star, there are hundreds of others struggling to earn a living. A man working in a steady job and looking forward to a pension at the end of it has no right to expect very high rewards. He has chosen security and peace of mind, so there will always be a limit to what he can earn. But a man who attempts to become a star is taking enormous risks. He knows at the outset that only a handful of competitors ever get to the very top. He knows that years of concentrated effort may be rewarded with complete. But he knows, too, that the rewards for success are very high indeed; they are the recompense for the huge risks involved and if he achieves them, he has certainly earned them. That's the essence of private enterprise.1.What is the author's attitude toward top stars' high income?2.It can be inferred from the passage that ().3.Which of the following is true according to the text?4.According to the author, one who dreams of being a star should be aware that().问题1选项A.ApprovalB.Disapproved.C.ronicalD.Indifferent. A.there exists fierce competition in climbing to the top of the PopsB.people are blind in idolizing starsC.successful pop stars give great entertainmentD.pops stars usually try to avoid paying tax问题3选项A.Pop stars get high-income repayment but are taxed less.B.Great contribution made by pop stars is limited to entertainment industry.C.Successful men represent the tip of the iceberg.D.Pop stars shouldn't enjoy the life of royalty. A.first he should look for a steady job with a pensionB.at last many people can climb to the very topC.great efforts will surely be rewarded with complete successD.the essence of private enterprise is huge risks probably bringing high rewards【答案】第1题:A第2题:A第3题:C第4题:D【解析】第1题:主旨大意题。

例如:agree,acknowledge,assert,see,insist,according to,find,think,believe,show,point out,content,acclaim,say等4)特殊标点符号,有的表示具体说明、有表解释、有表反义等等,均有或强或弱的强调意味,主要的特殊标点符号有:——、()、“”等。
f、含有绝对化的词语,如only,always,never,all,everything,anything,everywhere,everybody,nobody。
