新概念英语第四册第23课-Bird flight

新概念英语第四册第23课:Bird flightLesson 23 Bird flight鸟的飞行方法First listen and then answer the following question.听录音,然后回答以下问题。

What are the two main types of bird flight described by the author? No two sorts of birds practise quite the same sort of flight; the varieties are infinite; but two classes may be roughly seen. Any shi that crosses the Pacific is accompanied for many days by the smaller albatross, Which may keep company with the vessel for an hour without visible or more than occasional movement of wing. The currents of air that the walls of the ship direct upwards, as well as in the line of its course, are enough to give the great bird with its immense wings sufficient sustenance and progress. The albatross is the king of the gliders, the class of fliers which harness the air to their purpose, butmust yield to its opposition. In the contrary school, the duck is supreme. It comes nearer to the engines with which man has conquered the air, as he boasts. Duck, and like them the pigeons, are endowed withsuch-like muscles, that are a good part of the weight of the bird, and these will ply the short wings with such irresistible power that they can bore for long distances through an opposing gale before exhaustion follows. Their humbler followers, such as partridges, have a like power of strong propulsion, but soon tire. You may pick them up in utter exhaustion, if wind over the sea has driven them to a long journey. The swallow shares the virtues of both schools in highest measure. It tires not, nor does it boast of its power; but belongs to the air, travelling it may be six thousand miles to and from its northern nesting home, feeding its flown young as it flies, and slipping through we no longer take omens from their flight on this side and that; and even the most superstitious villagers no longer take off their hats to the magpie and wish it good-morning.参考译文没有任何两种鸟的飞行方式是相同的。

五年级下册语文第23课童年的发现的课文英语

五年级下册语文第23课童年的发现的课文英语

五年级下册语文第23课童年的发现的课文英语I discovered the rules about embryo development at the age of nine, which was completely the result of my independent thinking. After hearing that, you probably can't help laughing. Smile if you laugh. It doesn't hurt you anyway. I am unlike you. Three years later, I once remembered my discovery. I couldn't help laughing out loud, and I was punished in public. My discovery began with a dream flying. Every night I dream to fly, I am so obsessed with flying, as long as the feet a little, gently jump up, you can leave the ground to fly into the air. Later, I even learned to glide, in the streets, in the white Ye forest tip, in the green grass and clear lake circling. My body is so light that I can run freely as I want, stretching my arms and bouncing my legs, as if I seem to fly there wherever I want to go.I thought I was the only one among the students with flying talent, but one day I finally understood that every night, my friends would also fly in their dreams. That day, several of us decided to meet our teacher to answer this wonderful question. "Flying in the dream means that you are growing your body."The teacher explained. "Why do you only sleep for so long at night?”"You are too naughty during the day to hinder the growth of thecells. At night, the cells kept multiplying.” "So why do people fly when they grow up? What exactly is this true?” "This is your cells thinking back to the ancient times, when people were still birds.” "How can people be birds?"We were very surprised. "It's not just birds! Man has evolved from a simple life. At first, paramecium, then fish, frog, monkey, all this knowledge, when you enter the senior grade, the teacher will explain to you in class.”Senior grade, it is so far away from us, but the flight is still continuing. A conversation with the teacher further stimulated my imagination, and I was eager to find out how people came from it. I thought it was so obsessed that when I caught a fish from the river, I would look over and over again, hoping to find out some of the characteristics of the future people should have. Rural children know that their mother was nine months pregnant."Why is nine months?"I racked my brains about the answer to the question. Think and think, hey! Finally came up with the eyebrows: " Ha! It's almost like drawing a map. The distance on the ground is far away, and only a few centimeters are drawn on the map. People are made up of cells, from cells to small fish, after a long time. Now, this period of time is converted into a month. It takes a long time to becomea frog, and then into a month. In this calculation, it takes exactly nine months to change."I was so happy to find out that it was so simple and clear. I don't think any one has found this out yet. Three or four years later, I was in the sixth grade. The teacher began giving us biology lessons. On one occasion, a young female teacher solemnly about the origin, human development and evolution. At this time, I clearly heard the teacher say that, according to the point of view of evolution, the fetus in the mother's womb reproduces the process of adult evolution from a simple life. The classroom was so strangely quiet that everyone was silent. I suddenly remembered my discovery and couldn't help laughing out. The teacher glared at me very hard. "Feodorov! What do you laugh at? Laugh again and go out of the classroom again!” "Olga Ivanovna, I, I think of my own discovery.” There was a burst of laughter in the classroom. Olga Ivanovna turned pale with anger and strode towards me. "Feodorov! You get out of the classroom.” My face suddenly turned red with my embarrassment and shame. Only then did I realize that the teacher had misunderstood my laughter and thought that my smile was not good. Fortunately, she did not allow me to explain, otherwise, the students heard me say that they had found the theory of evolution three years ago,and did not laugh at the roof! But by being blown out of the classroom and standing outside, I came up with a reason for self-comfort. I understood the great inventions and discoveries of the —— world, and sometimes faced the risk of expulsion and persecution.。
