孙慧：Today,we are here to discuss which is more important for us university students, practical skills or theoretical knowledge. Shall we start now?

所有人：Yes.

孙慧（问王倩）：Different person must have different opinion. Then what’s your viewpoint?

王倩：I reckon the former is more important. Practical skills help us deal with many problems in reality, however, theoretical knowledge fights only on paper but can't have any real help. You know how to do, but you can't do anything, situations like that will give you a sense of incapacity and make you become less and less confident.That's relly horrible! 李鹤：I agree with her. The practice of learning English is a good example. We are not living in an English speaking country. So, in order to learn it well, we need extra practice, such as reading English books, going to English corners, or communicating with foreigners. Only sitting at the desk cannot lead to the mastery of English. Only through practice can one be good at doing things.

丰硕：As I see it, there's no deny that theoretical knowledge directs practical skills. If we don't have theoretical knowledge, how can we carry practice out? Fundamental theories

are the basic of other knowledge, which are the most practical and useful in our life. We can benefit a lot from them. Theoretical knowledge not only provides the knowledge itself, but also provides a way of thinking. The more we think, the more intelligent we are. It's the natural law that different periods do different things. In the university we study theoretical knowledge, in the future we work, we accumulate practical skills. After all,university is a place where we can acquire a lot of major knowledge,and cultivate methods of research.This is what we distinct from skilled workers.

王倩：But why can’t we accumulate practical skills from now on? Practice makes perfect, I think we should make opportunities to practice as much as possible. As far as I know, China is in great need of Senior technical personnels now, so a man with practical skills has more advantages in job hunting.

李鹤：I have the same point.As another example, if we want to be skilled in using the computer, we also need to practice using it. Some children become little experts in computer, just because they play with it everyday. On the contrary, if we just stick to books, we will still feel confused when using

computers. Judging from the evidence offered, we might safely draw the conclusion that practice skills are more important. 冯悦怡：There are some truth in what you mentioned, but I’m not very much into that. What do we try hard and to make ourselves perfect for? I think the answer is that all of us want to prove that we have better ability and we are outstanding among people, so learning theoretical knowledge well and getting high scores in exam can really prove yourself. Scores doesn’t mean everything, however, it really can reflect your ability. And what’s more,no matter we prefer to get a higher degree or to get a good job ,knowing the more theoretical knowledge,the better you’ll be, after all, theoretical knowledge is the foundtion in our work or further studying,the practical is also based on it.

孙慧： I really disagree with you on this matter. College education, totally different from that in technical in- -stitutions, aims to cultivate all rounded students. With this goal in mind, college students should dip into various subjects, while simultaneously concentrate on one academic field their major. We ,college students, are at the stage between teens and adults. If we didn’t promote practical skills, we couldn’t find a good job or even live on our own due to our
