Teaching Aims
1. Knowledge aim: Get the students to understand the concept of theme parks and learn something about the three world-famous theme parks.
2. Ability aim: Enable the students to get specific information by using reading skills, such as skimming and scanning.
3. Moral aim: Stimulate students’ love for life and encourage them to expand their vision by travelling.
Teaching important point
1. Train the students’ reading ability
2. Help students comprehend the text and grasp the main idea of the text. Teaching difficult point
Get students to understand the meaning of the title.
Teaching method
Task-based language teaching
Teaching Procedures:
Step I. Lead-in
Show some pictures about parks in Tianzhu and ask students to guess which parks they are. Then ask them the question: What is a park?
Step II Warming up
Enjoy some pictures about theme parks with students and have students
think about the question: What is a theme park?
Step III. Pre-reading
Get students to read the title and predict what the passage talks about. Step IV. Reading
1. Skimming
Skim the text and answer the question:
How many theme parks are mentioned in the text? What are they?
2. Scanning
1)Find out the main idea of each paragraph
2)Which picture shows the right structure of the text?
3. Careful reading
1)Listen to the recording and read paragraph 1 carefully. Then ask students to answer the question: In different kinds of theme parks, what things can you learn?
2)Get students to read paragraph2-4 carefully then find the activities in each park and fill in the table.
3)Where do you think you would see this kind of writing?
Step V Consolidation
Decide if the following statements are true or false..
1. Disneyland can be found everywhere.
2. Tourism develops where a Disneyland is built.
3. Dollywood has the only electric train still working in the USA.
4. Camelot Park has places for visitors to watch and maybe take part in sword fighting.
