Teaching Steps
Step 1: Warming up
Greet the students in the music “Jingle Bells”, introduce Father Christmas, and briefly compare Father Christmas with “Mother Christmas” (that is me-the teacher dressed up), using the sentences “ I have a badminton ball, but he doesn’t. / He has a soccer ball, but I don’t. / I have a bag, and he has a bag, too.”
Step 2: Speaking
1.Ask “What’s in his bag?”, let the students speak out the description words, and then the
words about ball games and sports things.
2.Distinguish “ soccer / soccer ball”, “ ping-pong / ping-pong ball”, “ tennis / tennis ball” by
making sentences “ I have a …ball. I like …. Let’s play…”
3.Do a survey about what sports things the students have, don’t have and want to have. Then
ask them to make dialogues in pairs first by using “Do you have a…?”, then in groups by using “Does he/she have a…?”
4.Help the students to conclude the grammar patterns about how to use “ do/ does/ have/ has”.
Step 3: Listening
Ask the students “Do you have a basketball?”“Does he/she have a basketball?”, then ask them to watch the video about an interview “Do you have a basketball?”, and finish 2 tasks. First, check the ball games mentioned in the interview, then write down the description words they talked about the ball games.
Step 4: Reading
1.Read Passage 1 about the interviewee called Wang Peng. Finish 2 tasks. One is to use “do,
does, have, has”, the other is to use “but, and”
2.Read Passage 2 about ball games in China and the USA, and fill in the information chart.
Step 5: Writing
As a friend of Wang Peng’s, ask the students to write something about Wang Peng in passage 1.
Step 6: Homework
1.Be a teacher. Help your classmates correct the mistakes in their writing.
2.Ask your parents to help you achieve your dream, and play with them.
