1. For reference.
1) We should read sentences containing the main point of each paragraph, which are often
located in the beginning or ending of a paragraph. We should skip supporting details such as examples, quotations, statistics, etc.
2) Despite all the negative feelings associated with school learning, the author thinks learning
is one of human essential pleasures. Rather than equalizing it with reading textbooks, he defines learning in a much broader sense: it means keeping the mind open to all kinds of experience, learning to practice or appreciate an art and reading books (not just textbooks).
Also, the author points out that to make learning cumulative, we should, on the one hand, integrate our thought, and on the other, make a long deliberate effort. Then, as a result, the author concludes that by preserving the pleasure of learning we can live a most rewarding life.
