Infectious Diseases
Hepatitis B is the largest problem for infectious disease prevention in China. The number of chronic asymptomatic Hepatitis B virus carriers reach 120 million, accounting for almost 9.75% of the total population. The number of new Hepatitis B patients reached 1.09 million in 2012, 0.96 million in 2013, and 0.94 million in 2014, representing a high morbidity in terms of that of total viral hepatitis for each year. Meanwhile, Hepatitis B is a major factor to increase the incidence of liver cancer and other liver diseases.

According to the NHFPC, almost 80% of the deaths in China are from chronic diseases, while heart diseases, stroke, and respiratory diseases account for around 75% of the total death. In 2012, at least 1 out of 5 Chinese adults has suffered from at least one chronic disease, such as hypertension and diabetes. The WHO estimated that Chinese patients will spend more than USD500 billion for chronic disease treatment annually from 2015.
According to the NHFPC statistics, malignancy ranks the first among all the diseases that cause deaths in China. Lung cancer and gastric liver colon cancer are the leading types of cancer for the male population, while breast, lung, colon, gastric and liver cancer are the most common types of cancer for female.
