中美隐私观的差异

Abstract

As different cultural between China and America ,the views of Chinese and American to living style and social phenomenon are various .For instance, they have different conception of time ,friendship ,family and privacy etc. According to my study of intercultural communication, I would like to turn to these two kinds of concept of privacy. In Intercultural Communication between American and China , the frequent examples of conflict are caused by the privacy concept and it even affect the smooth interaction between people.

When worldwide networking makes people closer together .the problem of privacy which communication from the difference existed in Chinese and American culture has become one of the obstructions. How should we do to recognize cross-cultural of the privacy .This thesis focuses on the specific differences of privacy between china and west ,so as to contribute different countries’people to know the attitudes of privacy and communicate well with each other.

The paper mainly states this from four parts , the first part introduces the conception of privacy ,the second part makes the comparison of American and Chinese differences in several aspects of privacy, the third part is about the rights to privacy, the forth part shows the cultural root of the different views about privacy in China and America, the last is the conclusion.

CHAPTER Ⅰ Introduction

Privacy reflects the influence of social culture and context, which shows the requirements of different nationalities on the communicative approach. In current society, we shall strengthen the understanding of the concept of Westerners privacy, and enhance the consciousness of differences between Chinese and America in order to make communication more smoothly. In this process, we should actively learn from the essence of American culture, and do not blindly accept all of Western thought. we must discard the dross and select the essential. So learning the differences of privacy concept between China and America doesn’t only aim to avoid communication barriers but also draw on the advantages of their countries for our own use.

CHAPTER Ⅱ The Conception of Privacy The concept of privacy originated in western, the America pay special attention to maintain their own privacy, but in China, for the most part Chinese people pay more attention to maintain collective privacy. Chinese "privacy" more or less with a little derogatory sense, refers to the "don't want to tell the people or don’t want to open the personal information." In America privacy is a right not to be disturbed emotionally by conduct designed to subject the victim to great tensions by baring his intimate life and affairs to public view or by humiliating and annoying invasions of his solitude. The protection of individuals’ honor，repute."

Compared the concept of privacy of Chinese with the West’s, they are still different. The different interpretations about privacy between China and the West have indicated the cultural differences.
