一、重点单词
1.contain vt. 包含；容纳；克制（强烈的感情等）
container n. 容器；集装箱；货柜

2.affect vt. 影响；感动；侵袭
（1）be greatly/deeply affected by 被……深深打动（2）effect n. 作用；影响
have an effect/influence on 对……产生影响
The traffic issue is very difficult to settle. It not only affects our everyday life, but may also threaten people’s lives.
交通问题很难解决，它不仅影响着我们的日常生活，而且也可能威胁到人们的生命。

3.appreciate vt. 鉴赏；感激；意识到；欣赏
（1）appreciate + n./pron./v.-ing 重视/感激……
I would appreciate it if…假如……，我将不胜感激
（2）appreciation n. 欣赏；感激
I’d appreciate your writing me back as soon as possible.你尽早回信我将感激不尽。

温馨提示：
当appreciate, hate, dislike, love, like, depend/rely on等词后接宾语从句时，一般先加it, 再接宾语从句。

I would appreciate it if you take the trouble to do so much for me.
如果你能不辞辛苦地为我做那么多事情我将感激不尽。

4.succeed vi. 成功；继承vt. 接替；继任
（1）succeed in (doing) sth. 成功地做某事succeed sb. as 接替某人成为……
（2）successful adj. 成功的be successful in (doing) sth. 成功地做某事
（3）success n. [U]成功；成就[C]成功的人或事物
Finally, I wish this year’s English speech competition a great success.
5.employ vt. 雇用；利用（时间，精力等）；使忙于，使从事于n. 使用；雇用
（1）employ sb. as…雇用某人任……
employ oneself in doing sth./be employed in doing sth. 忙于做某事
（2）employer n. 雇主employee n. 雇员；受雇者employment n. 职业；工作；使用
She was employed in watering the flowers, so she did not notice what was happening.

6.harm n. 伤害；损害vt. 损害；危害

温馨提示：
以上短语在被动语态里均不可省去from, 而在主动语态中，与stop/prevent搭配的from可以省略。

As is known to us all, shoes play an important role in our life, for they can protect our feet from being hurt.众所周知，鞋子在我们生活中起着重要的作用，因为它们能保护我们的脚免受伤害。

二、重点句型
1.It shows the importance of wildlife protection, but I’d like to help as the WWF suggests.
它表明了野生动植物保护的重要性，不过我想按照世界野生生物基金会的建议帮助你们。

句法分析:
as 在句中引导方式状语从句，意为“按照；如同”。

as作为关系代词，可以引导非限制性定语从句。

as作为连词的用法主要有：
（1）“如同；按照”，引导方式状语从句。

（2）“当……时候；随着”引导时间状语从句。

（3）“因为；既然”，引导原因状语从句。

（4）“尽管”，引导让步状语从句，常用倒装语序，可与though互换。

As the old saying goes, “When in Rome, do as Romans do.”常言道，入乡随俗。

温馨提示:
suggest 此处意为“建议”，用作此意时，从句要用“(should+)动词”，即虚拟语气；suggest 还可作“暗示；表明”讲，用作此意时其从句要用陈述语气。

2.They learned this from the way the bones were joined together.
他们是根据恐龙骨骼的连接方式了解到这一点的。

句法分析:
（1）way表示“方式；方法”时，其后常接that或in which引导的定语从句，也可以将关系词that/in which省略掉。

（2）way后接定语从句时，如果关系词在从句中作主语或宾语则用关系代词that/which,作宾语时可以省略。

I think you hurt his pride by laughing at the way he speaks English.
我觉得你嘲笑他说英语的方式伤害了他的自尊心。

The way that/which came up at the meeting was unpractical.
在会议上提出的方法不切实际。
