The second excavation of Guangfulin Archaeological Site was started from the end of 1999 and finished at the beginning of 2000, covering 349 square meters. During this excavation, experts found big fabrication of the Han Dynasty. And they also excavated a lot of ancient remains, suggesting that here might be the earliest town of Shanghai.

The third excavation was carried out at the end of 2000 and covered 500 square meters. From an archaeological perspective, it had great achievements. They unearthed implements which were identified as one of the Longshan Culture(a late period of the Neolithic Age, centered on the central and lower part of Yellow River, dated from 2900 BC to 2100 BC), and that left over an impression of the society in which the ancestors of Shanghai and migrating people from inland provinces of ancient China lived.

Shanghai is not a city lacks history.

Guangfulin is a village and even now a road in Shanghai is named after it. Guangfulin has been excavated for several times since 1950s. It’s hard for us to say which is the dividing crest of Guangfulin archaeological excavation, because we are not specialist in archaeology. Archaeological conclusion is reached from a certain period of time and a gathering of various information. We, as journalist, only know Guangfulin site is the largest archaeological excavation sites in Shanghai.

On June 27th, we knew that 5000 square meters’ Guangfulin site once was excavated and was maintained again. During the year of 2000, people had two discoveries, but they fade from public scene with time goes on. Here we want to say that archeology is not like fashion that always a hot topic. However, archeology, once mysterious and abstruse, is no longer a closed field because of the fast flow of information and media. We saw more than 20 ancient short pillars which indicate the long history and we even saw a well-preserved old well, but it’s pity that heavy rain take away the wonderful and mysterious picture inside the well.

In an open field, a few green trees stand there. The long history seems more vivid with them. The site was excavated and local villagers left, but the roots of ancient trees remain with history. If you live in the modernized and busy center of Shanghai, how could you imagine suck a field filled with history and culture.

Shanghai is to be said lack of history. It becomes well-knew in modern China (since 1920s) However, the Guangfulin site can date back to the Zhou

(1046BC-256BC) When we were young, we were familiar with some stories from Zhou. Now my complex of ancient Shanghai finds its home at Guangfulin site. What an unexpected gift!

It rains more heavily and it’s dangerous to continue excavating so the person in charge called the archaeology workers and us to hide under trees(which is more danger) The man inform us we can’t take photos without permission. They have their rules, but facts are there even we don't take pictures.

This on-going excavation was in the district outside the 5000 square meters’ core district. It began on March 27th. After we wrote the article about Guangfulin site in the
