I once knew someone who spent a year in a plaster cast recovering from an operation on his back. He read a lot, and thought a lot, and felt miserable.Later, he realised this time of forced retreat from the world had helped him to understand the world more clearly. We all need to get the balance right between action and reflection. With so many distractions, it is easy to forget to pause and take stock. Be it through contemplation, prayer, or even keeping a diary, many have found the practice of quiet personal reflection surprisingly rewarding, even discovering greater spiritual depth to their lives.Reflection can take many forms. When families and friends come together at Christmas, it's often a time for happy memories and reminiscing. Our thoughts are with those we have loved who are no longer with us. We also remember those who through doing their duty cannot be at home for Christmas, such as workers in essential or emergency services. And especially at this time of year we think of the men and women serving overseas in our armed forces. We are forever grateful to all those who put themselves at risk to keep us safe.Service and duty are not just the guiding principles of yesteryear; they have an enduring value which spans the generations.I myself had cause to reflect this year, at Westminster Abbey, on my own pledge of service made in that great church on Coronation Day 60 years earlier. The anniversary reminded me of the remarkable changes that have occurred since the Coronation, many of them for the better; and of the things that have remained constant, such as the importance of family, friendship and good neighbourliness. But reflection is not just about looking back. I and many others are looking forward to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year. The baton relay left London in October and is now the other side of the world, on its way across 70 nations and territories before arriving in Scotland next summer. Its journey is a reminder that the Commonwealth can offer us a fresh view of life.My son Charles summed this up at the recent meeting in Sri Lanka. He spoke of the Commonwealth's 'family ties' that are a source of encouragement to many. Like any family there can be differences of opinion. But however strongly they're expressed they are held within the common bond of friendship and shared experiences. Here at home my own family is a little larger this Christmas. As so many of you will know, the arrival of a baby gives everyone the chance to contemplate the future with renewed happiness and hope. For the new parents, life will never be quite the same again. As with all who are christened, George was baptised into a joyful faith of Christian duty and service. After the christening, we gathered for the traditional photograph. It was a happy occasion, bringing together four generations. In the year ahead, I hope you will have time to pause for moments of quiet reflection. As the man in the plaster cast discovered, the results can sometimes be surprising. For Christians, as for all people of faith, reflection, meditationand prayer help us to renew ourselves in God's love, as we strive daily to become better people. The Christmas message shows us that this love is for everyone. There is no one beyond its reach. On the first Christmas, in the fields above Bethlehem, as they sat in the cold of night watching their resting sheep, the local shepherds must have had no shortage of time for reflection. Suddenly all this was to change. These humble shepherds were the first to hear and ponder the wondrous news of the birth of Christ – the first noel – the joy of which we celebrate today.I wish you all a very happy Christmas.。

Respected guests, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen,It is an honor for me to stand before you today, as we gather to discuss and celebrate the progress we have made as a global community. I stand here as a representative of the British monarchy, and as a woman who is proud to be a role model for women around the world.Throughout history, women have faced numerous challenges and obstacles. We have been marginalized, oppressed, and denied basic rights. However, we have never lost hope. We have fought for our voices to be heard, and for our contributions to be recognized.Today, I stand here as the Queen of the United Kingdom, a testament to the progress we have made. I am proud to be a part of a country that strives for equality and fairness in all aspects of life. While I have been fortunate to hold this prestigious position, I am aware that many women around the world still face discrimination and injustice. For centuries, women have shown resilience and determination in their pursuit of equal rights. From the suffragettes who fought for our right to vote, to the activists who continue to fight for gender equality today, women have always been at the forefront of change. We must continue this legacy and work together to ensure that every woman, regardless of her background or circumstances, has the opportunities and rights she deserves.Education is the key to empowering women. It is througheducation that we can break the cycle of poverty and inequality. We must ensure that every girl has access to quality education, regardless of her geographical location or financial situation. Education not only empowers women, but also has a positive ripple effect on society as a whole. We must also address the gender pay gap. It is unacceptable that women continue to earn less than men for doing the same work. Equal pay for equal work is not just a slogan, but a basic human right. We need to create a fair and just society where women are valued and rewarded for their contributions, just as men are. However, achieving gender equality is not just the responsibility of women. Men must also be part of the solution. We need men to stand beside us, as allies and advocates for change. We need men to challenge harmful stereotypes and to promote gender equality in all aspects of life. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable world for all.As the Queen, I am committed to using my platform to promote gender equality and empower women. I will continue to support organizations and initiatives that work towards this goal. I encourage all of you to do the same. Each and every one of us has a role to play in creating a brighter future for women. In conclusion, I stand before you as a symbol of the progress we have made as women, but I also recognize that there is still much work to be done. Let us use this gathering as an opportunity to inspire and empower one another. Let us work together to create a world where every woman has the opportunity to reach her fullpotential.Thank you.Continuing from the previous speech:In order to achieve gender equality, it is crucial that we address the issue of violence against women. It is appalling that in this day and age, women continue to face physical, sexual, and emotional violence simply because of their gender. This violence not only affects individual women, but it also perpetuates a culture of fear and silence, preventing women from fully participating in society. We must work together to eradicate all forms of violence against women and provide them with the necessary support and resources to heal and rebuild their lives. In addition to tackling violence, we must also strive for equal representation and leadership opportunities for women. Women's voices and perspectives are essential for creating inclusive and effective policies and decisions. It is disheartening to see women underrepresented in political offices, corporate boardrooms, and other leadership positions. We need to break down the barriers that prevent women from reaching these positions and ensure that they are not only included but also have an equal say in shaping our future.Promoting gender equality is not just about improving the lives of women; it is about building stronger and more prosperous societies. Research has consistently shown that empowering women and girls leads to economic growth, improved health outcomes, and reduced poverty rates. When women are given equal opportunities, they thrive, and their success benefits everyone. By investing inwomen's empowerment, we are investing in the future of our communities and our world.Furthermore, gender equality is not solely a women's issue; it is a human rights issue. Men and boys also suffer from the negative effects of gender inequality. Harmful stereotypes and expectations placed on men, such as toxic masculinity, can lead to mental health issues, interpersonal violence, and a limited sense of self-expression. Gender equality benefits everyone by dismantling these harmful social norms and creating a more compassionate and inclusive society for all.As we strive for gender equality, we must not forget the intersectional nature of discrimination. Women's experiences are shaped by their race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, and other identities. We must ensure that our efforts to promote gender equality are inclusive and address the unique challenges faced by women from marginalized communities. Intersectional feminism recognizes that gender equality cannot be achieved without also addressing other forms of oppression and discrimination. Finally, achieving gender equality requires sustained and collective action. It is not enough to have lofty ideals and aspirations; we must translate them into concrete actions and policies. Governments, civil society organizations, businesses, and individuals all have a role to play in creating a more equitable and just world. We must hold ourselves and others accountable for progress and continue to push for change, even when faced with resistance or setbacks. In conclusion, the fight for gender equality is far from over, but we have made significant strides in the right direction. Let us celebrate the progress we have made and use it as fuel to propel us forward. Together, we can create a world where every woman and girl can thrive, free from discrimination and inequality. Let us stand united and work tirelessly until gender equality becomes a reality for all. Thank you.。

It is with great honor and privilege that I stand before you today to address the topic of the portrayal of the British monarchy in film, particularly with regards to the role of the Queen of England. As we all know, the British royal family has been a subject of fascination for centuries, and their lives and reigns have been depicted in numerous films and television shows. However, it is the portrayal of the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, that has garnered the most attention and acclaim. The portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in film has been a subject of much discussion and debate. The Queen is a figure of immense historical and cultural significance, and as such, any portrayal of her in film carries with it a great deal of responsibility. It is essential that the portrayal be respectful, accurate, and sensitive to the complexities of her role as both a public figure and a private individual. One of the most notable portrayals of Queen Elizabeth II in recent years is that of actress Helen Mirren in the film "The Queen." Mirren's performance was widely praised for its nuance and depth, and she received numerous awards for her portrayal of the monarch. The film itself was lauded for its thoughtful and sympathetic portrayal of the Queen in the aftermath of Princess Diana's death, and it sparked important conversations about the role of the monarchy in modern society. In addition to "The Queen," there have been numerous other films and television shows that have depicted Queen Elizabeth II at various stages of her life and reign. Each portrayal brings its own perspective and interpretation of the Queen, and together they form a rich tapestry of representations of this iconic figure. It is important to remember that while these portrayals are works of fiction, they have a profound impact on public perceptions of the monarchy. As such, it is crucial that filmmakers and actors approach the portrayal of the Queen with the utmost care andconsideration. The Queen is not only a public figure, but also a human being with thoughts, feelings, and experiences that deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. In conclusion, the portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in film is a complex and multifaceted subject that requires careful consideration and sensitivity. As filmmakers continue to explore the lives and reigns of the British royal family, it is essential that they approach the portrayal of the Queen with the respect and thoughtfulness that her position demands. Only through this approach can we hope to create portrayals that are both artistically compelling and historically accurate. Thank you.。

Mr President,Prince Philip and I would like to thank you and Frau Schadt for the warm welcome you havegiven us at the start of our fifth State Visit to Germany. In the 50 years since our first visit, ourcountries have lived through many profound changes. I am very glad to record that one of theirreversible changes for the better in my lifetime has been in the relationship between theUnited Kingdom and Germany.Mr President, it falls to a Head of State to lead a nation in the marking of anniversaries. Everymonth this year we commemorate either the centenary of a momentous event in the FirstWorld War; the 70th anniversary of a milestone at the end of the Second World War; or, herein Germany, 25 years of reunification following the fall of the wall which divided this city andthis nation for so long. But, tonight, I would also like to cast back rather further in time. Last week in a water-meadow by the River Thames, I attended an event to celebrate the 800th anniversary of theMagna Carta. Of course, incommon with other events in our remote history, the precise factsof 1215 are disputed. The consequences of the agreement between King John and his barons, however, are not disputed: for the first time we established in England that no man should beabove the law and that individuals as well as rulers have rights. Thus began the long, slow andinterrupted process of our country's evolution into a democracy.Tomorrow I shall visit St Paul's Church, where the first freely-elected legislature in Germanymet in 1848. The Frankfurt Parliament turned out to be a false dawn; it took another centuryand the loss of the most terrible wars in history to set Germany on the path of democracy.Earlier this year my cousins visited Germany to mark with you, Mr President, more recent andpainful anniversaries. The Duke of Kent visited Dresden and The Duke of Gloucester visitedBergen-Belsen. I myself shall visit Bergen-Belsen on Friday. These visits underline the completereconciliation between our countries.Germany has reconciled with all her neighbours. I pay tribute to the work of the Germanstatesmen since the Second World War who reinvented Germany and helped to rebuild Europe.I met ChancellorAdenauer at Windsor in 1958. He rejected the idea of a neutral Germany, preferring to anchor Germany in the West. His successors took up the challenge of unitingGermany as a member of all the institutions of Europe and the West.Since 1945 the United Kingdom has determined to number among Germany's very strongestfriends in Europe. In the intervening decades, Britain and Germany have achieved so much byworking together. I have every confidence that we will continue to do so in the years ahead.Since Berlin and Germany were reunited there has been much to celebrate. Today I cruisedwith you, Mr President, along the Spree. I saw fewer cranes than when I was last here in 2019.But still the most magnificent element of Berlin's skyline is the Reichstag dome, an enduringreminder of our cultural cooperation. Our work together includes every part of life, frompolitics to commerce, from industry to every aspect of the arts, in particular, music, museums and education. We also saw a wonderful example of partnership in education and science during our visit to theTechnical University this afternoon. The enthusiasm and interest our students and youngpeople have for eachother's ideas and work is our greatest asset: the next generation is at easewith itself and with contemporaries across Europe in a way that was never the case before. The United Kingdom has always been closely involved in its continent. Even when our mainfocus was elsewhere in the world, our people played a key part in Europe. In the nineteenthcentury in the Russian Empire a Welsh engineer called John Hughes founded a mining townwhich is now Donetsk in Ukraine. And in the seventeenth century a Scottish publican calledRichard Cant moved his family to Pomerania; his son moved further East to Memel and hisgrandson then moved South to K?nigsberg, where Richard's great-grandson, Immanuel Kant, was born.In our lives, Mr President, we have seen the worst but also the best of our continent. We havewitnessed how quickly things can change for the better. But we know that we must work hardto maintain the benefits of the post-war world. We know that division in Europe is dangerousand that we must guard against it in the West as well as in the East of our continent. Thatremains a common endeavour.Ladies and Gentlemen, I ask you to rise and drink a toast to thePresident and the people ofGermany.。

As a child, I never imagined that one day a man would walk on the moon. Yet this year we marked the fiftieth anniversary of the famous Apollo 11 mission.
As those historic pictures were beamed backed to earth, millions of us sat transfixed to our television screens, as we watched Neil Armstrong taking a small step for man and a giant leap for mankind and, indeed, for womankind. It's a reminder for us all that giant leaps often start with small steps.

There was a time when British Olympic medal winners became household names because there were so few of them. But the 67 medals at this year’s Games in Rio and 147 at the Paralympics meant that the GB medallists' reception at Buckingham Palace was a crowded and happy event. Throughout the Commonwealth there were equally joyful celebrations. Grenada, the Bahamas, Jamaica and New Zealand won more medals per head of population than any other countries. Many of this year’s winners spoke of being inspired by athletes of previous generations. Inspiration fed their aspiration; and having discovered abilities they scarcely knew they had, these athletes are now inspiring others.A few months ago, I saw inspiration of a different kind when I opened the new Cambridge base of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, where Prince William works as a helicopter pilot. It was not hard to be moved by the dedication of the highly skilled doctors, paramedics and crew, who are called-out on average five times a day.But to be inspirational you don't have to save lives or win medals. I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroeswhose quiet dedication makes them special. They are an inspiration to those who know them, and their lives frequently embody a truth expressed by Mother Teresa, from this year Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She once said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”This has been the experience of two remarkable organisations, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Prince’s Trust, which are sixty and forty years old this year. These started as small initiatives but have grown beyond any expectations, and continue to transform young people's lives. To mark my 90th birthday, volunteers and supporters of the six hundred charities of which I have been patron came to a lunch in The Mall. Many of these organisations are modest in size but inspire me with the work they do. From giving friendship and support to our veterans, the elderly or the bereaved; to championing music and dance; providing animal welfare; or protecting our fields and forests, their selfless devotion and generosity of spirit is an example to us all. When people face a challenge they sometimes talk about taking a deep breath to find courage or strength. In fact, the word 'inspire' literally means 'to breathe in'. But even with the inspiration of other s, it’s understandable that we sometimes think the world's problems are so big that we can do little to help. On our own, we cannot end wars or wipe out injustice, but the cumulative impact of thousands of small acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine. At Christmas, our attention is drawn to the birth of a baby some twothousand years ago. It was the humblest of beginnings, and his parents, Joseph and Mary, did not think they were important.Jesus Christ lived obscurely for most of his life, and never travelled far. He was maligned and rejected by many, though he had done no wrong. And yet, billions of people now follow his teaching and find in him the guiding light for their lives. I am one of them because Christ’s example helps me see the value of doing small things with great love, whoever does them and whatever they themselves believe. The message of Christmas reminds us that inspiration is a gift to be given as well as received, and that love begins small but always grows.I wish you all a very happy Christmas.。

In this past year my family and I have been inspired by the courage and hope we have seen in so many ways in Britain, in the Commonwealth and around the world. Weve seen that its in hardship that we often find strength from our families; its in adversity that new friendships are sometimes formed; and its in a crisis that communities break down barriers and bind together to help one another.Families, friends and communities often find a source of courage rising up from within. Indeed, sadly, it seems that it is tragedy that often draws out the most and the best from the human spirit. When Prince Philip and I visited Australia this year we saw for ourselves the effects of natural disaster in some of the areas devastated by floods, where in January so many people lost their lives and their livelihoods. We were moved by the way families and local communities held together to support each other.Prince William travelled to New Zealand and Australia in the aftermath of earthquakes, cyclones and floods and saw how communities rose up to rescue the injured, comfort the bereaved and rebuild the cities and towns devastated by nature. The Prince of Wales also saw first hand the remarkable resilience of the human spirit after tragedy struck in a Welsh mining community, and how communities can work together tosupport their neighbors. This past year has also seen some memorable and historic visits – to Ireland and from America. The spirit of friendship so evident in both these nations can fill us all with hope. Relationships that years ago were once so strained have through sorrow and forgiveness blossomed into long term friendship. It is through this lens of history that we should view the conflicts of today, and so give us hope for tomorrow.Of course, family does not necessarily mean blood relatives but often a description of a community, organization or nation. The Commonwealth is a family of 53 nations, all with a common bond, shared beliefs, mutual values and goals. It is this which makes the Commonwealth a family of people in the truest sense, at ease with each other, enjoying its shared history and ready and willing to support its members in the direst of circumstances. They have always looked to the future, with a sense of camaraderie, warmth and mutual respect while still maintaining their individualism. The importance of family has, of course, come home to Prince Philip and me personally this year with the marriages of two of our grandchildren, each in their own way a celebration of the God-given love that binds a family together. For many this Christmas will not be easy. With our armed forces deployed around the world, thousands of service families face Christmas without their loved ones at home. The bereaved and the lonely will find it especially hard. And, as we all know, the world is going through difficult times. All this will affect our celebration of this great Christian festival.Finding hope in adversity is one of the themes of Christmas.Jesus was born into a world full of fear. The angels came to frightened shepherds with hope in their voices: Fear not, they urged, we bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour who is Christ the Lord.Although we are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves – from our recklessness or our greed. God sent into the world a unique person – neither a philosopher nor a general (important though they are) – but a Saviour, with the power to forgive.Forgiveness lies at the heart of the Christian faith. It can heal broken families, it can restore friendships and it can reconcile divided communities. It is in forgiveness that we feel the power of Gods love.In the last verse of this beautiful carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem, theres a prayer:O Holy Child of BethlehemDescend to us we prayCast out our sinAnd enter inBe born in us todayIt is my prayer that on this Christmas day we might all find room in our lives for the message of the angels and for the love of God through Christ our Lord.I wish you all a very happy Christmas.。

It is with great honor and profound gratitude that I stand before you today, as a representative of the British Royal Family, to share withyou my reflections on our nation's rich history, its present challenges, and the unwavering spirit of our people. As the Duchess of [Your Title], it is my duty to support the Queen andto represent her interests and values. Today, I wish to address you on a topic that is close to my heart: the love and pride we, as a nation, have for our country, the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom, with its diverse cultures, languages, and traditions, is a nation that has been shaped by centuries of history. From the majestic ruins of Stonehenge to the bustling streets of London, our country is a tapestry of stories that tell of our resilience, courage, and ingenuity. Our history is one of triumphs and trials. We have seen the rise andfall of empires, the exploration of new worlds, and the birth of modern democracy. Through it all, our people have remained united by a common bond—a love for our country and a desire to build a better future for ourselves and our children.Ladies and gentlemen, our nation's strength lies not just in itsmilitary might or economic power, but in the spirit of our people. It is the courage of our ancestors who braved the unknown, the ingenuity ofour inventors who changed the world, and the compassion of our citizens who give selflessly to those in need.Today, we find ourselves at a critical juncture in our nation's history. The world is changing rapidly, and with these changes come challengesthat we must face together. As we stand at this crossroads, it is more important than ever to remember our roots, to cherish our heritage, and to embrace the values that have defined us as a nation.First and foremost, we must cherish our unity. The United Kingdom is a mosaic of different cultures and backgrounds, each contributing to the rich tapestry that is our nation. It is this diversity that has made us strong, and it is this diversity that we must protect and nurture. As we celebrate our differences, we must also recognize the common values that bind us together. These values include respect for each other, the rule of law, and a commitment to justice and equality. It is through these values that we can overcome the divisions that threaten to tear us apart. We must also be vigilant in protecting our democracy. Our forebears fought hard to secure the rights and freedoms that we enjoy today. It is our duty to ensure that these hard-won rights are preserved for future generations. We must stand up for our democratic principles, defend the rule of law, and support the institutions that hold our nation together.Furthermore, we must never underestimate the power of education. Knowledge is the key to progress, and it is through education that we can empower our citizens to shape a brighter future for our country. As we invest in our schools and universities, we must also encourage aspirit of curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking. As we look to the future, we must not forget the importance of our environment. The beauty of our country is not just a source of pride but also a responsibility. We must act now to protect our natural resources, combat climate change, and ensure that future generations can enjoy the same wonders that we do.Ladies and gentlemen, our country has faced adversity before, and we have always emerged stronger. Whether it was the great wars, the financial crises, or the challenges of modern-day globalization, our people have shown incredible resilience and determination. In these uncertain times, let us remember that our strength lies in our unity, our values, and our shared commitment to our nation. Let us be the generation that not only preserves our heritage but also builds a future that is fair, just, and prosperous for all.As we face the challenges ahead, let us draw inspiration from the words of our great nation's poets and philosophers. From the bravery of Shakespeare's characters to the wisdom of our modern thinkers, our culture has always been a source of strength and guidance. In conclusion, I urge each and every one of you to embrace your role as a citizen of this great nation. Let us work together to foster a spirit of unity, to uphold our values, and to build a future that is worthy of our ancestors and our children. Our country is a beacon of hope, a place where dreams are realized and where possibilities are endless. With love and pride in our hearts, let us continue to write the next chapter of our nation's history, together.Thank you. God bless the United Kingdom.。

The resignation speech of British Prime Minister Cameron.Good morning everyone. The country has just taken part in a giant democratic exercise, perhaps the biggest in our history.Over 33 million people from England,Scotland,Wales,Northern Ireland and Gibraltar have all had their say.We should be proud of the fact that in these islands we trust the people for these big decisions. We not only have a parliamentary democracy, but on questions about the arrangements for how we've governed there are times when it is right to ask the people themselves and that is what we have done. The British people have voted to leave the European Union and their will must be respected.I want to thank everyone who took part in the campaign on my side of the argument, including all those who put aside party differences to speak in what they believe was the national interest and let me congratulate all those who took part in the Leave campaign for the spirited and passionate case that they made. The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered. It was not a decision that was taken lightly, not least because so many things were said by so many different organisations about the significance of this decision. So there can be no doubt about the result.Across the world people have been watching the choice that Britain has made.I would reassure those markets and investors that Britain's economy is fundamentally strong and I would also reassure Britons living in European countries and European citizens living here there will be no immediate changes

The Queens speech at the China State Banquet2015.10.20Mr. President,Prince Philip and I are delighted to welcome you and Madame Peng to Buckingham Palace this evening.Your visit to the United Kingdom marks a milestone in this unprecedented year of co-operation and friendship between the United Kingdom and China, as we celebrate the ties between our two countries and prepare to take them to ambitious new heights. The United Kingdom and China have a warm and longstanding friendship. Prince Philip and I recall with great fondness our visit to China almost thirty years ago, where we were privileged to experience your country’s rich history and culture, including the Great W all, the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Warriors: all unforgettable memories of China’s ancient civilization.Yet it was China’s desire to shape a new future which captivated us the most. We were struck by the energy and enthusiasm with which China’s l eaders were forging ahead with a new and ambitious future for the Chinese people; and I well recall our discussions with the late paramount leader Mr. Deng Xiaoping, who was foremost among these leaders in setting a clear direction for China with his polic y of reform. It was also Mr. Deng’s visionary concept of One Country Two Systems which opened the way for the return of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty under the Sino-British Joint Declaration.Almost thirty years later, Mr Deng’s vision has borne remark able fruit. Rapid economic growth and development has transformed the lives of people across China and lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty: a huge and historic achievement with far reaching positive effects on people’s lives.I was delighted that my grandson Prince William was able to witness these changes during hisfirst visit to China earlier this year. Like myself and Prince Philip, he visited not only your great cities of Beijing and Shanghai but also the beautiful province of Yunnan, and saw at first-hand the strong connections which bind our two countries together, be they in culture, education or business.Mr. President, the relationship between the United Kingdom and China is now truly a global partnership. We have much reason to celebrate the dynamic, growing economic relationship between our countries as well as our success in working together to address pressing international challenges. We have, this year, marked the seventieth anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations. Today the world faces challenges which call for collaboration between the nations: conflict and terrorism; poverty and ill-health; conservation and climate change. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Britain and China are stewards of the rules-based international system, and we have a responsibility to cooperate on these issues which have a direct bearing on the security and prosperity of all our peoples. This global partnership is supported by an expanding network of links between the people of our two countries, which are essential in building mutual understanding and friendship, while we welcome the increasing numbers of Chinese tourists, students and business visitors to the United Kingdom.Mr. President, your visit is a defining moment in this very special year for our bilateral relationship. I am confident that it will serve to highlight the sincerity and warmth of our friendship and to strengthen relations between our countries for many years to come.Ladies and Gentlemen, I ask you to rise and drink a toast to the President and Madame Peng and to the people of China.。

There was a time when British Olympic medal winners became household names because there were so few of them. But the 67 medals at this year's Games in Rio and 147 at the Paralympics meant that the GB medallists' reception at Buckingham Palace was a crowded and happy event.
Many of this year's winners spoke of being inspired by athletes of previous generations. Inspiration fed their aspiration; and having discovered abilities they scarcely knew they had, these athletes are now inspiring others.
A few months ago, I saw inspiration of a different kind when I opened the new Cambridge base of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, where Prince William works as a helicopter pilot. It was not hard to be moved by the ____39____ of the highly skilled doctors, paramedics and crew, who are called-out on average five times a day.
But to be inspirational, you don't have to save lives or win medals. I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organizers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special.
They are an inspiration to those who know them, and their lives frequently embody a truth expressed by Mother Teresa, from this year Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She once said, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love."
This has been the experience of two ____40____organizations, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the Prince's Trust, which are sixty and forty years old this year. These started as small ____41____, but have grown beyond any expectations, and continue to transform young people's lives.
To mark my 90th birthday, volunteers and supporters of the six hundred charities of which I have been patron came to a lunch in The Mall. Many of these organizations are ____42____ in size, but inspire me with the work they do. The message of Christmas reminds us that inspiration is a gift to be given as well as received, and that love begins small but always grows.
I wish you all a very happy Christmas.。
