The well-known tab concept for selecting the current display in the driver information system has also been adopted in the Audi A3 ’13 .
Instrument cluster with colour multifunction display
The monochrome multifunction display has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It can be ordered with or without the driver informa-tion system.
The colour multifunction display also has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It automatically includes the driver information system with efficiency program.
The efficiency program is automatically available when the driver information is ordered and is very useful for fuel-efficient driving.
The optional adaptive cruise control (ACC) system is only available in combination with this instrument cluster.

A protected "terminal 30" line and a "terminal 31" line are routed to the control unit in the instrument cluster J285.
Two twisted CAN bus lines are used for communication with other in-car control units:
a convenience CAN High line and a convenience CAN Low line.In addition, the control unit reads in three other electrical compo-nents: two fuel tank senders and the immobiliser coil D2.
The fuel tank senders use three-wire technology. Fuel tank sender 2 is fitted in quattro models only.
In the Audi A3 ’13, the control unit in the instrument cluster J285 acts as the master for the immobiliser. It is a fifth generation immobiliser system.
In addition to the immobiliser master control unit, the immobiliser system also includes the following control units:• Engine control unit (standard equipment)
• Gearbox control unit (fitted only in vehicles with automatic gearbox)
• Electronic steering column lock control unit J764 (fitted in combination with optional advanced key only)
The immobiliser coil D2 is fitted in vehicles with and without the optional advanced key. In vehicles without an advanced key, the coil is located in the ignition starter switch and exchanges data with the inserted ignition key.
In vehicles with an advanced key, the immobiliser coil is fitted in a similar position but the ignition starter switch is not included with this option. The coil is only required in emergencies if a fault occurs in the keyless starter system. The ignition key must then be held in a marked position
in order to turn on the ignition or start the engine. The immobiliser coil D2 is located behind this marking.

In the basic version of the Audi A3 five-door model, the following control units are fitted in both rear doors:
• Control unit with window lifter control unit,
rear driver side J1016
and
• Control unit with window lifter control unit,
rear passenger side J1017They replace the rear door control units in the basic version. The rear door control units are only required if the optional electrical child lock or the interior light package is ordered.
In markets where models are fitted with an additional central locking button in both rear doors, door control units are also required in order to read in this button.

If both control units with rear window lifter motor J1016 and
J1017 are fitted, the rear driver side and passenger side central locking system locking units (F435 and F436) are read in by the onboard power supply control unit J519. The locking units com-prise the central locking motor V539 and the SAFE function motor V537 as well as the following microswitches.
• Microswitch for feedback on whether a vehicle door is currently locked / unlocked
• Microswitch for feedback on whether a vehicle door is currently safed / unsafed
• Door contact switch F505If door control units are fitted in the rear doors due to optional equipment ordered, the locking units are connected to the cor-responding door control units, J926 and J927.
A number of customer service designations will be updated with the launch of the Audi A3 ’13. This applies to customer service designations which include information on installation locations such as "rear left" and "rear right". They will be replaced by new descriptions such as "rear driver side" and "rear passenger side". This goes in particular for the rear door control units. They will be given the new customer service designations "door control unit, rear driver side J926" and "door control unit, rear passenger side
J927", instead of the previous designations "door control unit, rear left J388" and "door control unit, rear right J389".
Tasks of control units J926 and J927
• Communicating with the corresponding front door control unit via LIN bus
• Self diagnostics and transfer of diagnostic information to the front door control unit
• Reading in the door contact switch, the window lifter button and the central locking button The rear driver side and rear passenger side door control units will be fitted in the five-door versions of Audi A3 derivative models if at least one of the following options has been ordered:
• Electrical child lock
• Interior light package
They will also be fitted in Chinese, US and Canadian spec models in which a central locking button is additionally fitted in the rear doors.
• Activating the lights in the optional interior light package
• Activating the window lifter motor, locking and SAFE motor, and the child lock motor
