• Westerners treat with a long table,men and women sit in the owner at both ends,and then the guest of honor men and women in the press and the general order of the guests seating arreangements. • If there is no special rank,ladies can sit down at first.And a polite gentleman should wait for the girls' seating. • After sitting down,people should maintain their back straight,but they don't have to be a stiff like a bump.And they'd better pay attention to keeping the proper distance with the table.

• Well dressed when having a meal is the European and American people's common sense. • When going to upscale restaurant,men should wear clean coat and leather shoes,and women should wear a suit and heels.If asked to wear formal clothing,men have to wear ties.
Helping Yourself and Refusing
If a servant passer food atound,he wil pass the dish in at your left hand so that you can conveniently serve yourself with your right hand .Never serve yourself while the dish is on your right;it is then the turn of your neighbor on the right.It is polite to take some of everything that is passes to you.But if there is something you may not like,you may quietly say,"No,thank you."
• When you want to go somewhere for a while,you should put your knife and fork like the picture.Then the servant will keep your plate.

Table manners change over time.They follow the fashion of the day .Beside,table manners are only important at formal dinner parties.If you're not sure what to do ,you can always follow your hosts.
The order of dishes in the west
• Dinner start with a small dish,which is often called an a starter.After the starter you will get a bowl of soup.The next dish is main course,it usually is a beefsteak.A vagetable salad will be served.Then a delicious dessert will appear at the table.At last it's time to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
Some people pray before they start eating.And other people may keep silence for a moment.Then you can say "Enjoy your meal"to each other and eyerybody start eating.

• As soon as the hostess pick up her napkin,pick yours up and lay it on your lap.Sometimes a roll of bread is wrapped in it;if so,take it out and put it on your side plate.
The largest spoon at your place is the soup spoon.It will be beside your plate at the right-hand side. Three glasses—one for white wine,one for the red wine,and one for water. There are two pairs of knives and forks on the table,forks on the left and knives in the right of the plate. The knife and fork that are closest to your plate are a litte bit bigger than the ones beside them.
When you sit down at the table.you can take your napkin,unfold it and put it
on your lap. The napkin is used to keep the cloth clean,and you can use it to wipe the grease stain on your lips and hands.But,remember you can not use it to wipe your nose.Some people may worry about the health issues of the tableware, so use their napkin to clean the tableware, actuawenku.baidu.comly this is very impolite behavior,which will make the host feel embarrased. After a meal, the napkin should be folded and placed on the table and then leave.
• Do not put much food in your mouth at a time. • It is polite to finish eating everthing on your plate,so don't take more food than you need. At table ,you should try to speak quietly and smile a lot,but do not laugh all the time. • Drink only when there is no food in your mouth. • Do not make any noise when you eat. • When drinking to someone's health,you raise your glasses,but the glasses should not touch. • Do not clean your teeth at the table or anywhere in public,either with your finger or a tooth pick,not even with your tongue.
