According to statistics, 1.2 billion people worldwide are overweight, and 250 million are too fat. Obesity is rapidly becoming a new cause of suffering.Professor Friedrich hopichler of Salzberg said :"we are living in the new age but with the metabolism(新陈代谢)of a stone-age man .I have just been to the United States. 2019年职称英语卫生类A级阅读理解模拟练习题及答案(1)Is the News Believable?Unless you have gone through the experience yourself, or watched a loved one’s struggle, you really have no idea just how desperate cancer can make you. You pray, you rage, you bargain with God, but most of all you clutch at any hope, no matter how remote, of a second chance at life. For a few excited days last week, however, it seemed as if the whole world was a cancer patient and that all humankind had been granted a reprieve(痛苦减轻) . Triggered by a front-page medical news story in the usually reserved New York Times, all anybody was talking about--- on the radio, on television, on the Internet, in phone calls to friends and relatives----was the report that a combination of two new drugs could , as the Times put it, “cure cancer in two years.”In a matte r of hours patients had jammed their doctors’ phone lines begging for a chance to test the miracle cancer cure. Cancer scientists raced to the phones to make sure everyone knew about their research too, generating a new round of headlines. The time certainly seemed ripe for a breakthrough in cancer. Only last month scientists at the National Cancer Institute announced that they were halting a clinical trial of a drug called tamoxifen (他莫昔芬) ------ and offering it topatients getting the placebo(安慰剂) -----because it hadproved so effective at preventing breast cancer (although it also seemed to increase the risk of uterine(子宫的) cancer). Two weeks later came the New York Times’ report that two new drugs could shrink tumors of every variety without any side effects whatsoever. It all seemed too good to be true, and of course it was. There are no miracle cancer drugs, at least not yet. At this stage all the drug manufactures can offer is some very interesting molecules, and the only cancers they have cured so far have been in mice. By the middle of last week, even the TV talk-show hosts who talked most about the news had learned what every scientist already knew : that curing a disease in lab animals is not the same as doing it in humans. “The history of cancer research has been a history of curing cancer in the mouse,” Dr. Richard Klausner, head of the National Cancer Institute, told the Los Angeles Times. “We have cured mice of cancer for decades---and it simply didn’t work in people.”41.According to the passage, a person suffering from cancer willA. give up any hope.B. pray for the health of his loved ones.C. seize every chance of survival.D. go out of his way to help others.42. The unprecedented interest in the cure of cancer was aroused byA. a nationwide discussion of the topic.B. an announcement by the National Cancer Institute.C. a medical news story in the Los Angeles Times.D. a report in the New York Times.43. According to the New York Times’ report, a combination of two new drugs couldA. prevent breast cancer.B. reduce the size of all tumors.C. cure various diseases.D. prevent uterine cancer.44. In the first sentence of the last paragraph, “it was ” meansA. “it was too good to be true.”B. “it was true.”C. “it was a miracle drug.”D. “it was good.”45. The history of cancer research has shown thatA. miracle cancer drugs often turn up unexpectedly.B. the mass media can work wonders.C. animals and humans are similar in behaviour.D. curing cancers in mice is much easier than in humans答案:41.C42.D43.B44.A。

Breaking the News about Your Diagnosis1 When I was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly a year ago, I found myself at a loss for words at first. Over time, however, I developed some pointers (点子), which I hope willhelp others.2 During the first few weeks of emotional "aftershocks" (余悸) from the diagnosis, I found myself unable to utter the word "cancer". Still, I wanted to share the news with my relatives and friends who already knew that I'd had a biopsy (活检) and were anxiously awaiting my telephone call. I did the best I could, which is all anyone can do in this situation. When I called them, I said, "What we feared has happened." They immediately knew what I meant.3 Nearly a year after my diagnosis, I find myself more comfortable telling people "1 was diagnosed with cancer" instead of saying '"1 have cancer." On some deep level, Idon't want to "own" this illness. Choose language that suits you when you share your news. And keep in mind that there is no one "right" way of doing this.4 Most people, after hearing your announcement, will be curious about the next step. They may wonder if you will be undergoing radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy (化疗).They may wonder where and when you will have surgery. Answer their questions as best you can, but keep in mind that "1 don't know right now" or "I'm still in too much shock to think about that" are good answers.5 Wait until the initial wave of strong emotions has passed before telling the children in your life. Don't overwhelm (使不知所措) very young children with too much information. Assure them that, even if you will be in the hospital for a while, they will see you every day and they will be cared for. Older children may already fear the word "cancer", so be prepared to reassure them. Emphasize the positive steps that doctors will be taking to treat your illness.23 Paragraph 2____________.24 Paragraph 3____________.25 Paragraph 4____________.26 Paragraph 5____________.A Break the news as calmly as possible to childrenB Break the news at your own paceC Share the good news with your friendsD Choose language that suits youE Follow your doctor's adviceF Be prepared for people's curiosity27 You can break the news about your diagnosis without saying____________.28 When breaking the news about your diagnosis, you can have____________.29 After hearing about your diagnosis, people will ask questions____________.30 Very young children won't feelcomfortable____________.A your own choice of wordsB the word "cancer"C the positive stepsD about the next stepE on too many answersF with too much information。

Old Man Myths and Realities1 When does a middle-aged man become an old man?Officially, of course, it's when we reach retirement age. But, as we all know, this is a fairly blunt(生硬的)method of decision making. As life expectancy(预期寿命)increases, retirement planning needs to be changed. This is becausebeing an old man today is very different from what it was a generation or so ago.2 Sixty-five is the new middle-aged man. These dayspeople are talking about the young-old, that is ages 70-75, and those over 75 as the old-old. The young-old frequently continue in good health and maintain strong links withfriends and family. The old-old have a much higher chance of poor health and social isolation.3 Although men are living longer, there are still moreold women than old men. This fact alone should arouseinterest as to why. Relatively little is actually known about why this is the case or about the experiences of the old man. Sure, we are aware that the old man experiences anxiety, financial problems, loneliness, etc., but that's really about all we know.4 It is usually believed that the old man often complains about their health. In fact, most rate their health as good even though most are diagnosed with at least one chronic illness. The physical health of the old man is strongly affected by their health behavior when they were younger.1 Paragraph 1__________.2 Paragraph 2__________.3 Paragraph 3__________.4 Paragraph 4__________.A New definitions of the old manB Changing concept of the old manC Health of the old manD Happy old man and sad old manE Limited knowledge of the old man's experiencesF Contempt for the old man5 Nowadays men generally live longer than__________.6 A man in his mid-60s is now regarded as__________.7 More research should be done on the experiencesof__________.8 Most old men consider themselves to be__________.A in good healthB in the pastC in the wrongD the old manE a middle-aged manF a young man【参考答案】1. They are no longer places for theprivileged few or for bored vacationers to visit on rainy days. Action and democracy are words used in descriptions of museums now.At a science museum in Ontario, Canada, you can feel your hair stand on end as harmless electricity passes through your body. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, you can look at 17th century instruments while listening to their music. At the Modern Museum in Sweden, you can put on costumes provided by the Stockholm Opera. As these examples show, museums are reaching out to new audiences, particularly the young, the poor, and the less educated members of the population. As a result, attendance is increasing.More and more, museums directors are realizing that people learn best when they can somehow become part of what they are seeing. In many science museums, for example, there are no guided tours. The visitor is encouraged to touch, listen, operate, and experiment so as to discover scientific principles for himself. He can have the experience of operating a spaceship or a computer. He can experiment with glass blowing and paper making. The purpose is not only to provide fun but also to help people feel at home in the world of science. The theory is that people who do not understand science will probably fear it, and those who fear science will not use it to best advantage. Many museums now provide educational services and children’s departments. In addition to the usual displays, they also offer film showings and dance programs. Instead of being places that one "should" visit, they are places to enjoy. One cause of all these changes is the increase in wealth and leisure time. Another cause is the rising percentage of young people in the population. Many of these young people are college students or college graduates. They are better educated than their parents. They see things in a new and different way. They are not content to standand look at works of are; they want art they can participate in. The same is true of science and history. In the US, certain groups who formerly were too poor to care about anything beyond the basic needs of daily life are now becoming curious about the world around them. The young people in these groups, like young people in general, have benefited from a better education than their parents received. All these groups, and the rest of the population as well, have been influenced by television, which has taught them about other places and other times. The effect of all this has been to change existing museums and to encourage the building of new ones. In the US and Canada alone, there are now more than 6,000 museums, almost twice as many as there were 25 years ago. About half of them are devoted to history, and the rest are evenly divided between the arts and sciences. The number of visitors, according to the American Association of museums, has risen to more than 700 million a year. In fact, the crowds of visitors at some museums are creating a major problem. Admission to museums has always been either free or very inexpensive, but now some museums are charging entrance fees for the first time or raising their prices. Even when raised, however, entrance fees are generally too low to support a museum, with its usually large building and its highly trained staff.1. Paragraph 2________.2. Paragraph 3________.3. 2019年职称英语卫生类B级概括大意模拟训练1Transport and Trade1Transport is one of the aids to trade.By moving goods from places where they are plentiful to places where they are scarce, transport adds to their value. The more easily goods can be brought over the distance that separates producer and consumer, the better for trade. When there were no railways,no good roads,no canals, and only small sailing ships, trade was on a small scale.2The great advances made in transport during the last two hundred years were accompanied by a big in crease in trade.Bigger and faster ships enabled a trade in meat to develop between Britain and New Zealand, for instance.Quicker transport makes possible mass-production and bigbusiness, drawing supplies from, and selling goods to,all parts of the global.Big factories could not exist without transport to carry the large number of workers they need to and from their homes.Big city stores could not have developed unless customers could travel easily from the suburbs and goods delivered to their homes.Big cities could not survive unless food could be brought from a distance.3Transport also prevents waste.Much of the fish landed at the ports would be wasted if it could not be taken quickly to inland towns.Transport has given us a much greater variety of foods and goods since we no longer have to live on what is produced locally.Foods, which at one time could be obtainedonly during a part of the year, can now be obtained all through the year.Transport has raised the standard of living.4By moving fuel, raw materials, and even power,as,for example, through electric cables, transport has led to the establishment of industries and trade in areas where they would have been impossible before.Districts and countries can concentrate on making things which they can do better and more cheaply than others and can then exchange them with one another. The cheaper and quicker transport becomes, the longer the distance over which goods can profitably becarried.Countries with poor transport have a lower standardof living.5Commerce requires not only the moving of goods and people but also the carrying of messages andinformation.Means of communication, like telephones, cables and radio, send information about prices, supplies, and changing conditions in different parts of the world. In thisway, advanced communication systems also help to develop trade.EXERCISE:1.Paragraph 2___________2.Paragraph 3 ___________3.Paragraph 4 ___________4.Paragraph 5 ___________A.Higher living standardB.Importance of transport in tradeC.Various means of transportD.Birth of transport-related industries and tradeE.Role of information in tradeF.public transportation5.The development of modern means of transport_____________.6.Only when goods can be carried to all parts of the world quickly _____________.7.Transport has made it possible for people to eat whatever food they want _____________.8.In the trade of modern society the transmission of information plays as important a role as _____________.A.to send goods to various parts of the worldB.at any time during the yearC.has greatly promoted tradeD.is it possible to produce on a large scaleE.the transport of goodsF.it is possible to produce on a large scale答案:1.B 2.A 3.D 4.E 5.C 6.D 7.B 8.E。

2019职称英语卫生B级概括大意模拟练习及答案(1)概括大意与完成句子题Ford1 Ford’s great strength was the manufacturing process——not invention. Long before he started a car company, he was a worker, known for picking up pieces of metal and wire and turning them into machines. He started putting cars together in 1891. Although it was by no means the first popular automobile, the Model T showed the world just how creative Ford was at combining technology and market.2 The company’s assembly line alone threw America’s Industrial Revolution into overdrive (高速运转). Instead of havin g workers put together the entire car, Ford’s friends, who were great toolmakers from Scotland, organized teams that added parts to each Model T as it moved down a line. By the time Ford’s Highland Park plant was humming(嗡嗡作响)along in 1914, the world’s fi rst automatic conveyor belt could turn out a car every 93 minutes.3 The same year Henry Ford shocked the world with the $5-a-day minimum wage scheme, the greatest contribution he had ever made. The average wage in the auto industry then was $2.34 for a 9-hour shift. Ford not only doubled that, he also took an hour off the workday. In those years it was unthinkable that a man could be paid that much for doing something that didn’t involve an awful lot of training or education. The Wall Street Journal called the plan "an economic crime", and critics everywhere laughed at Ford.4 But as the wage increased later to daily $10, it proveda critical component of Ford’s dream to make the automobile accessible (可及的)to all. The critics were too stupid to understand that because Ford had lowered his costs per car, the higher wages didn’t matter except for making it possible for more people to buy cars.1 Paragraph 1________.2 Paragraph 2________.3 Paragraph 3________.4 Paragraph 4________.A Ford’s Fo llowersB The Assembly LineC Ford’s Great DreamD The Establishment of the CompanyE Ford’s Biggest ContributionF Ford’s Great Talent5 The assembly line made it possible to________.6 Ford was the first to adopt________.7 Higher wages enabled many people to________.8 Ford’s higher-wage and lower-cost strategy wasstrongly________.A criticized by the mediaB the low wage in the auto industryC own a carD produce cars in large numbersE the 8-hour-shift’practiceF combined technology and market【参考答案】1. Organ Donation and Transplantation1 Organ donation(捐献) and transplantation(移植) refers to the process by which organs or tissues from one person are put into another person's body.2 The number of people needing a transplant continues to rise faster than the number of donors. About 3,700 transplant candidates are added to the national waiting list each month. Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. However, about 18 people die each day waiting for transplants thatcan't take place because of the shortage of donated organs.3 There are no age limits on who can be an organ donor. Newborns as well as senior citizens have been organ donors. If you are younger than 18, you must have a parent's or guardian's consent (同意). If you are 18 years or older, you can show you want to be an organ and tissue donor by signing a donor card.4 Many people think that if they agree to donate their organs, the doctor or the emergency room staff won't work as hard to save their life. This is not true. The transplant team is completely separate from the medical staff working to save your life. The transplant team does not become involvedwith you until doctors have determined that all possible efforts to save your life have failed.5 If you need an organ transplant, your doctor will help you get on the national waiting list.Your name will become part of a pool of names. When an organ donor becomes available, all the patients in the pool are compared to the donor. Factors such as blood and tissue type, size of the organ , medical urgency(紧急) of the patient's illness, time already spent on the waiting list, and distance between donor and recipient(接受者) are considered.23. Napping to a Healthier Heart? 1
1. Researchers say they have developed a simple test that can tell if at person with heart disease is likely to stiffer a heart attack2 The test measures levels of a protein in the blood. The researchers say people with high levels of this protein are at high risk of heart attack, heart failure3 or stroke.
2. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo of the University of
California in San Francisco led the team. For about four years, they studied almost one thousand patients with heart disease. The researchers tested the heart disease patients
for a protein called NT-proBNP4. Patients with the highest levels were nearly eight times more likely than those with the lowest levels to have a heart attack, heart failure or stroke.
3. The researchers say the presence of high levels of the protein in the blood shows that the heart muscle is under pressure in some way. The study involved mostly men, so the researchers could not say for sure5 that the results are also
true for women.. They say the patients with the highest
levels of NT-proBNP were older and had other problems like diabetes or high blood pressure.
4. Other researchers say more studies are needed to confirm if knowing the protein levels of a heart patient should affect that person’s treatment. They also would like to know if more aggressive treatment6 could reduce the patient’s chance of a heart attack or stroke. The study appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association7.
5. Could a little sleep during the middle of the day reduce the risk of a heart attack? An unrelated study earlier this month in the Archives of Internal Medicine8 suggests
that the answer may be yes. In countries like the United States, afternoon naps are mostly for children. But they are common for adults in Mediterranean countries. And these countries generally have lower rates of heart disease. So scientists in the United States and Greece wondered if naps could play a part. Twenty-three thousand healthy adults took part in the study by Harvard University and the University of Athens9. Those who took thirty-minute naps three times a week had a thirty-seven percent lower risk of death from heart problems than people who did not take naps.
6. The researchers say napping may improve heart health by reducing stress. They say the research suggests that naps。
