职称英语等级理工类(A级)试题考试试题答案及题解
职称英语等级理工类(A级)试题考试试题答案及题解4第二篇A Phone That Knows You’re BusyIt’s a modern problem:you’re too busy to be disturbed by incessant(连续不断的)phone calls so you turn your cellphone off .But if you don’t remember to turn it back on when you’re less busy.you could miss some important calls if only the phone knew when it was wise to interrupt you,you wouldn’t have to turn it off at all. Instead,it could let calls through when you are not too busyA bunch of behavior sensors(传感器)and a clever piece of software could do just that,by analyzing your behavior to determine if it’s a good time to interrupt you.If built into a phone, the system may decide you’re too busy and ask the caller to leave a message or ring back later.James Fogarty and Scott Hudson at Camegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania based their system oil tiny microphones, cameras and touch sensors that reveal body language and activity.First they had to study different behaviors to find out which ones stongly predict whether your mind is interrupted. The potential“busyness”signals they focused on included whether the office doors were left open or closed, the time of day,if other people were with the person in question, how close they were to each other, and whether or not the computer was in use.The sensors monitored these and many other factors while four subjects were at work . At random intervals, the subjects rated how interruptible they were on a scale ranging from“highly interruptible’’to“highly not—interruptible” . Their ratin gs were then correlated with the various behaviors . “It is a shotgun(随意的)approach:we used all the indicators we could think of and then let statistics find out which wereimportant,” says Hudson. The model showed that using the keyboard, and talking on a landline or to someone else in the office correlated most strongly with how interruptible the subjects judged themselves to be.Interestingly, the computer was actually better than people at predicting when someone was too busy to be interrupted . The computer got it right 82 per cent of the time, humans 77 per cent.Fogarty speculates that this might be because people doing the interrupting are inevitably biased towards delivering their message, whereas computers don’t care. The first application for Hudson and Fogarty’s system is likely to be in an instant messaging system, followed by office phones and cellphones.“There is no technological roadblock(障碍) to it being deployed in a couple of years,” says Hudson36 A big problem facing people today is thatA they must tolerate phone disturbances or miss important calls.B they must turn off their phones to keep their homes quiet.C they have to switch from a desktop phone to a cellphone.D they are too busy to make phone calls.37 The behavior sensor and software system built in a phoneA could help store messages.B could send messages instantlyC could tell when it is wise to interrupt you.D could identify important phone calls.38 Scientists at Carnegie Menon University tried to find outA why office doors were often 1eft open.B when it was a good time to turn off the computer.C what questions office workers were bothered with.D which behaviors could tell whether a person was busy39 During the experiment, the subjects were askedA to control the sensors and the camera.B to rate the degrees to which they could be interrupted.C to compare their behaviors with others’.D to analyze all the indicators of interruption.40 The computer performed better than people in the study becauseA the computer worked harder.B the computer was not busyC people tended to be biased.D people were not good at statistics.。

2012职称英语测试理工类A级模拟考题四(4)
2012职称英语测试理工类A级模拟考题四(4)四、阅读理解1.Household jobEveryone knows how the story of Cinderella ends, but did you ever really think about how she spent her days before she met the prince? Her daily routine was not fascinating. She did everything from sweeping the floor to cooking the meals. If someone had asked Cinderella, “Are there any kinds of household work that you particularly hate?” she probably would have answered, “Why, none, of course. Housework is my duty!” In the real world, however, most people have definite dislikes for certain sorts of household work. Two of these tasks are ironing clothes and washing dishes.Ironing clothes is most hated because it is not a task that can be completed quickly or thoughtlessly. Each piece of clothing must be handled individually, so ironing a basket of laundry can take hours! After ironing a piece of clothing with great caution, which requires smoothing out the fabric, and following the seams, you need to place it on a hanger as soon as possible. If you do not follow these directions carefully, it might become wrinkled and you have to start over. Perhaps that is why ironing is not a favorite thing to do. It calls for extreme attention to detail from beginning to end.Another household job that many people dislike is washing dishes. Of course, some people claim that this work is no longer a problem because we have dishwashers now! However, no one would argue that dishes, silverware, and especially pots and pans washed in a dishwasher don’t come out as clean as they do when washed by hand. For this reason, many of us continues to wash our dishes by hand, but we are not necessarily happy doing it. Cleaning dishes is a job that not only takes a lot of energy but also requires the patience to wash and dry them. In addition, unlike ironing clothes, washing dishes is a thing that usually mustbe done every day. I dont know how Cinderella felt about this particular task, but I believe that most people hate it as much as I do.(1).For Cinderella, doing household work is.A an assignmentB a compulsionC a joyD an obligation(2).Most people hate to do clothes-ironing because.A it demands less careB it must be handled skillfullyC it involves careful planningD it is time-consuming(3).To avoid ironing the clothes over again, one should.A know how to iron certain clothes materialB spare no care through all the proceduresC find some proper hangers for the ironedD pay special attention to the seams(4).Many people still prefer washing dishes by hand to machine washing because.A hand-washed dishes are cleanerB dishwashers are not so easily handledC some dishes cannot be machine washedD washing dishes by hand is cheaper(5).Ironing is different from dishwashing in that.A it demands less careB it requires patienceC it is not laboriousD it demands less care。

1.Cell phone studies find no ‘consistent evidence’of cancer linkA review of cell phone studies commissioned by the Swedish Radiation Protection Authority has found no “consistent evidence” of an increased risk of cancer from usage, the agency said. Studies have differed on whether the use of mobile phones increases the risk of cancer as the handsets have become increasingly popular and efficient. The governmental agency asked Dr. John D. Boice Jr. and Dr. Joseph K. McLaughlin of the International Epidemiology Institute in Rockville, Md., to evaluate published epidemiological research on the subject. The review looked at nine studies since 1996 that included factors such as type of phone, duration andfrequency of use and brain tumor location.“No consistent evidence was observed for increased risk of brain cancer (or other forms),” the scientists said in the review, released Wednesday. The agency acknowledged public concern about the issue and said many studies were still being performed and continued follow-up was needed on any possible carcinogenic effect linked to mobile phone usage.“You can never say that something is without risk, but at least we can say that there is no scientific evidence for a causal association between the use of cellular phones and cancer,” said Lars-Erik Paulsson, a radiation expert with the agency. The review singled out research by Swedish oncologist Lennart Hardell, which said that long-term users of old-fashioned analog cell phones were at least 30% more likely than nonusers to develop brain tumors. Newer digital phones emit less radiation than older analog models of the sort studied.Hardell, whose study was published recently in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, studied 1,617 patients with brain tumors and compared them witha similar-size group of people without tumors. The review said Hardell’s study and some U.S. research with similar findings were “non-informative, either because the follow-up was too short and numbers of cancers too small, or because of serious methodological limitations.”It contrasted those with three studies in the United States, and studies in Finland and Denmark, which Paulsson said used more reliable sampling methods and were based on medical reports rather than interviews with patients. Those studies found “a consistent picture …… that appears to rule out, with a reasonable degree of certainty, a causal association between cellular telephones and cancer to date,” the agency said.(1).Swedish Radiation Protection Authority looked at previous studies.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned(2).According to the agency further studies on any possible carcinogenic effect linked to mobile phoneusage were needed.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned(3).The public believe that usage of mobile phones increases the risk of cancer.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned(4).Newer digital phones release more radiation than older analog models of the sort studied.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned(5).Hardell’s study were based on medical reports.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned(6).Studies in Finland and Denmark used more reliable sampling methods and were based on medical reports.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned(7).Cancer has a relation to the use of cellular phones.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned。

职称英语真题及答案:理工类A级完型填空2012年职称英语真题及答案:理工类A级完型填空Solar Power without Solar CellsA dramatic and surprising magnetic effect of light discovered by University of Michigan1 researchers could lead to solar power without traditional semiconductor-based solar cells. The researchers found a way to make an “optical 1 ,” said Stephen Rand, a professor in the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Physics and Applied Physics.Light has electric and magnetic components. Until now, scientists thought the 2 of the magnetic field were so weak that they could be ignored. What Rand and his colleagues found is that at the right intensity, when light is traveling through a material that does not conduct electricity, the light field can generate magnetic effects that are 100 million times stronger than 3 expected. 4 these circumstances, the magnetic effects develop strength equivalent to a strong electric effect.“This could lead to a new kind of solar cell without semiconductors and without absorption to produce charge separation,” Rand said. “In solar cells, the 5 goes into a material, gets absorbed and creates heat. Here, we expect to have a very low heat load2. Instead of the light being absorbed, energy is stored in the magnetic moment3. Intense magnetization can be induced by intense light and then it is ultimately capable of providing a capacitive power 6.”What makes this possible is a previously undetectedbrand of “optical rectification4,” says William Fisher, a doctoral st udent5 in applied physics. In traditional optical rectification, light’s electric field causes a charge separation, or a pulling 7 of the positive and negative charges6 in a material. This sets up a voltage, similar to 8 in a battery.Rand and Fisher found that under the right circumstances and in right types of materials, the light’s magnetic field can also create optical rectification. The light must be shone through7 a 9 that does not 10 electricity, such as glass. And it must be focused to an intens ity of 10 million watts per square centimeter8. Sunlight isn’t this intense on its own, but new materials are being sought that would work at lower intensities, Fisher said.“In our most recent paper, we show that incoherent light9 like sunlight is the oretically almost as. 11 in producing charge separation as laser light is,” Fisher said. This new 12 could make solar power cheaper, the researchers say. They predict that with improved materials they could achieve 10 percent efficiency in 13 solar pow er to useable energy. That’s equivalent to today’s commercial-grade solar cells.“To manufacture 14 solar cells, you have to do extensive semiconductor processing,” Fisher said. “All we would need are lenses to focus the light and a fiber to guide it. Glass works for 15 . It’s already made in bulk10, and it doesn’t require as much processing. Transparent ceramics might be even better.”

Where Has the Salt Come from?Every now and then, we meet a fact about our earth that makes us feel strange and no answer for the fact has yet been found. Such a fact is the existence of salt in the oceans. How did it get there? We simply do not know how the salt got into the ocean! We do know, of course, that salt is water-soluble, and so passes into the oceans with rainwater. The salt of the earth's surface is constantly being dissolved (溶解) and is passing into the ocean. But we do not know whether this can explain the huge quantity of salt in oceans, if all the oceans were dried up, enough salt would be left to build a wall 180 miles high and a mile thick. Such a wall would reach once around the world at the Equator (赤道)!The common salt that we all use is produced from seawater or the water of salt lakes, from salt springs (源泉) and from deposits of rock salt. The concentration (浓度) of salt in seawater ranges from about three per cent to three-and-one-half percent. The Dead Sea, which covers an area of about 340 square miles, contains about 11,600,000,000 tons of salt!On the average, a gallon (加仑) of seawater contains about a quarter of a pound of salt. The beds of rock salt that are found in various parts of the world were all originally formed by the evaporation (蒸发) of seawater millions of years ago. It is believed that the thick rock-salt deposits were formed after about nine-tenth of the volume of seawater had been evaporated. Most commercial salt is obtained from rock salt. The usual method is to drillwells (井) down to the salt beds. Pure "water is pumped down (抽进去) through a pipe. The water dissolves the salt and it is forced through another pipe up to the surface.16 We have not fully understood how salt got into the ocean.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned17 The author is sure that the dissolved salt from the earth's surface is the only source of the huge quantity of salt found in oceans.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned18 If all the oceans were dried up, the salt thus obtained would be extremely great in size.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned19 The percentage of salt content in the Red Sea is higher than that in the Dead Sea.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned20 Beds of rock salt are found in every part of the world.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned21 After evaporation, about ten percent of seawater becomes rock salt.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned22 Most commercial salt is obtained from seawater.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned第3部分:概括大意与完成句子(第23~30题,每题1分,共8分)阅读下面这篇短文,短文后有2项测试任务:(1)第23~26题要求从所给的6个选项中为第2~5段每段选择1个正确的小标题;(2)第27~30题要求从所给的6个选项中选择4个正确选项,分别完成每个句子。

You might go out morning after morning and see it come up in the east. Even o n cloudy mornings, you would observe that the darkness goes away and the world becomes light. You might not see the sun but would be sure it is there, because y ou notice that the earth warms up. As you continued, the sun climbs higher in the sky each day during part of the year. It stays in the sky longer. The earth gets warmer. Things begin to grow. It is spring and then summer.3 After a while the sun stays in the sky for shorter and shorter periods. Many plants begin to die. Leaves fall. Winter comes. Year after year this is repeated and you cannot tell exactly why it happens. But you realize that the sun seems to make the difference. Primitive (原始的) man felt that since the sun was so powerful it mu st be a god. It may seem silly to us now to worship (崇拜) a sun-god, but primitive man was right about the importance of the sun to life on earth.4 You have been told that the world is round. But suppose no one had ever t aught you that the world was like a huge ball. Would you have ever thought of it y ourself? You cannot see the curve (曲线) of the earth at once. You would have no i dea of how big it was. That's why early man believed that the earth was small and fiat. Such ideas appeared from the evidence they had.5 If you watch the stars night after night, you will see them rise and set. As y ou look at the sky, it is not difficult to imagine that you are in the center of a vast collection of twinkling (闪烁) lights. Some early astronomers (天文学家) believed th e sky was a crystal shell or series of crystal shells, one inside the other. They believ ed this because that is what the night sky looked like.
