英语六级高分作文—生活的艺术(The Art of Living)

生活的艺术(The Art of Living)the art of living is to know when to hold fast and when to let go. for life is a paradox: it enjoins us to cling to its many gifts even while it ordains their eventual relinquishment. the rabbis of old put it this way: a man comes to this world with his fist clenched, but when he dies, his hand is open. surely we ought to hold fast to life, for it is wondrous, and full of a beauty that breaks through every pore of god` s own earth. we know that this is so, but all too often we recognize this truth only in our backward glance when we remember what was and then suddenly realize that it is no more. we remember a beauty that faded, a love that waned. but we remember with far greater pain that we did not see that beauty when it flowered, that we failed to respond with love when it was tendered. a recent experience re-taught me this truth. i was hospitalized following a severe heart attack and had been in intensive care for several days. it was not a pleasant place. one morning, i had to have some additional tests. the required machines were located in a building at the opposite end of the hospital, so i had to be wheeled across the courtyard on a gurney. as we emerged from our unit, the sunlight hit me. that`s all there was to my experience. just the light of the sun. and yet how beautiful it was -- how warming, how sparking, how brilliant! i looked to see whether anyone else relished the sun`s golden glow, but everyonewas hurrying to and fro, most with eyes fixed on the ground. then i remembered how often i, too, had been indifferent to the grandeur of each day, too preoccupied with petty and sometimes even mean concerns to respond from that experience is really as commonplace as was the experience itself: life`s gif第1 页。

英语作文生活的艺术The Art of Living。

Living is an art. It is not just about breathing, eating, and sleeping. It is about how we conduct ourselves, how we interact with others, and how we find joy and meaning in our lives. The art of living is about making the most of every moment, finding beauty in the mundane, and creating a life that is fulfilling and meaningful. One of the key elements of the art of living is mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in the moment, of being aware of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. It is about paying attention to the little things, and finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. When we are mindful, we can appreciate the beauty of a sunset, the taste of a delicious meal, and the warmth of a hug from a loved one. Mindfulness allows us to slow down, to savor each moment, and to find peace and contentment in the present.Another important aspect of the art of living is gratitude. Gratitude is the practice of acknowledging and appreciating the good things in our lives. It is about recognizing the blessings that we have, and being thankful for them. When we cultivate an attitude of gratitude, wecan find joy and satisfaction in even the most difficult circumstances. Gratitude allows us to focus on the positive, to see the silver lining in every cloud, and to find happiness in the midst of adversity. The art of living also involves cultivating meaningful relationships. We are social beings, and our connectionswith others are essential to our well-being. Building and maintaining strong, healthy relationships with family, friends, and community members enriches our lives andbrings us joy. When we invest time and energy in our relationships, we can experience love, support, and companionship, and we can find fulfillment in our connections with others. In addition to mindfulness, gratitude, andrelationships, the art of living also includes self-care. Taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally is essential for a fulfilling life. This means getting enough rest, eating well, exercising, and managing stress. It also means engaging in activities that bring us joy and fulfillment, such as hobbies, creative pursuits, and spiritual practices. When we prioritize self-care, we can enhance our well-being, increase our resilience, and live a more vibrant and meaningful life.Ultimately, the art of living is about finding purpose and meaning. It is about knowing what matters to us, and aligning our actions and choices with our values and beliefs. When we live with purpose, we can experience a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction, and we can make a positive impact on the world around us. Whether it is through our work, our relationships, our creative pursuits, or our contributions to our communities, living with purpose allows us to create a life that is rich and meaningful. In conclusion, the art of living is about living withmindfulness, gratitude, meaningful relationships, self-care, and purpose. It is about finding joy and meaning in the everyday, and creating a life that is fulfilling and vibrant. By practicing the art of living, we can cultivate happiness, contentment, and well-being, and we can make the most of every moment.。

【教材改编简要说明】John P Heines的原文The Art of Living是一篇非常有哲理性和语言美感的议论文,因此笔者把课型设为阅读课,对文章进行有意义地、深入地探讨和挖掘。

改编后的材料保留了作者的思想,大部分有哲理性的语言,和一些地道的英语表达法,如playing God (微调成playing the role of God), look outside the box, smell the roses等等,但是去除了较为深奥的哲学词汇,如the Secret, the Stillness, 以及作者和妻子相知相爱的例子,以适应学生的理解能力和生活经验。

运用并体现了一定的科学性原则。

为了使议论文的框架更明显,层次感更强,笔者添加了一些段落之间的逻辑连接词,如as far as I am concerned, to begin with, more importantly。

笔者把设计的一些阅读任务,如Skimming, Scanning, Comprehending and learning about language, 和阅读文章整合在一起,使其看起来更像教材,让学生有一种熟悉感。

改编后的教材Reading▲▲Skimming : Skim the passage to find out who the author is.▲▲Scanning: Scan the passage to find out what “the Law of Attraction” is.The Art of Living1 Belief is the great guide of human life. Unfortunately, our belief is often built on themany models in society, one of which is called “the Law of Attraction”, saying that we can attract into our life whatever we want. In other words, we can apply our will and certain techniques to get anything we wish. Yes, we can own luxuries, like the biggest TV, and the latest cell phone. We can even explore the Antarctica for economic purposes. But the risk is that we are playing the role of God!2 As far as I am concerned, it is wrong to think that if enough is enough, then more isbetter. Wanting is the source of suffering. This desire for more results from a limited understanding of “limitlessness”. We must not forget that someone else in this world may be suffering because of our greed, because of our lack of understanding. So, when we are seeking solutions from within a model, like “the Law of Attraction”, which is basically wrong, we will not find lasting, sustainable solutions. We need to look outside the “box”. But how?3 To begin with, we should take a closer look at our real needs. We should re-evaluateour lives. If we have enough money, do we have enough time? Do we have enough quality time? In today's world some are money-rich and time-poor. We foolishly ignore our loved ones to obtain what we desire, only to find the joy it brings us doesn’t last long. But when we're in touch with who we really are, what is here right now is perfect. Then our true needs are satisfied, and there is a sense of thankfulness and a feeling of peace.4 More importantly, the art of living is learning to be content with what we have. Anexample would be with teenage problems. Many teenagers complain that their parents are always spying on them and telling them to do such-and-such. Some even run away from home, leaving the desperate parents searching every corner of the world for them. These unsatisfied ones simply forget the fact that they are so lucky to have someone who cares about them, not realizing that what they need is just a little more communication.5 It has been said that when the student is ready, the teacher comes. In this world, everyone and every experience can be our teacher. Thus, when we live each moment of “now” to the fullest, when we look at the world with a contented heart, when we stop fora while to smell the roses, when we are happy, truly happy, what we need automaticallycomes. Believe in magic and magic is. Love what we are doing and we will be rewarded in amazing ways.— adapted from The Art of Living by John P Haines▲▲Comprehending and learning about language1. Match the words or expressions with the correct meaning.① luxuries (Para 1) a. that can continue for a long time; long-lasting② limitlessness (Para 2) b. examine something again because of a change of opinion③ sustainable (Para 2) c. being without restrictions or limitations④ re-evaluate (Para 3) d. an attitude in which you show happiness or satisfaction⑤a contented heart (Para 5 ) e. things that are expensive and enjoyable but not most important2. 1) Find the topic sentence of each paragraph.2) Match the topic sentence with a statement which is closest in meaning. But one of thestatements is unnecessary. [Pair work]□a. What we believe has a great effect on how we live.□ b. We can learn from everyone we met and everything we did.□ c. We need to find out what we really need.□ d. What we cannot have seems better than what we have, which leads to bad consequences.□ e. Don’t look forward to the day you stop suffering, because when it comes you know you’ll be dead.□ f. Treasure and be satisfied with the things we own.3. Understanding difficult points. How do you understand the underlined words “playing the role God” (Para 1.), “look outside the box” (Para 2.), and “smell the roses”(Para 5.)?4. Exploring the purpose and organization of the text.a. Purpose: _______________________________________________________________b. The organization of the text:Introduction to the topic →Problem →Solutions →Conclusion(Para ____) (Para ___) (Para ___&____) (Para ___)5. Complete the short summary of the writer’s opinion about “the art of living” with the words in the box.sustainable re-evaluate be content with smell the rosesluxuries thus to begin with a contented heartThe art of living is to learn how to be ___________ what we have. _____________, we should restrain our desires, such as the desire to have more ____________. 1.Do you feel happy most of your time?2.Make a list of the things that make you annoyed and the things that1.Do you always feel unhappy when you can’t get what you want?2.Do you know what you really need? The Art of LivingJohn P Haines1 Our world is built on models that have become commonly accepted by everyone. Frankly, many of these models have outworn their welcome; many of them have stayed on the shelf long past their due dates.2Numerous people today teach about ideas called 'The Secret', or 'The Law of Attraction'. These ideas have taught peoplethat there are no limits on what we want and that we can really geteverything that we want. Due to what is taught, some peoplebecome greedy. However, one point is ignored that wanting is thesource of suffering. The more we want, the more we may suffer.3 We want too much because we don’t understand how to be content. Unfortunately, this model has long existed in the so-called civilized world. We can own and enjoy the luxury of things—the latest gadget, the biggest TV, the newest and greatest cell phone—yet we must not forget that someone else in this world may be suffering because of our greed, because of our lack of understanding.4Hardly can we find economic and lasting solutions to this problem of greed-and-suffering from within a model that is totally wrong. We need to look outside the box, that is, look for new ways.5 It is a false belief that more is better. When we're close to who we really are, we will feel content. Then when our needs, our true needs are satisfied, we may feel grateful, peaceful and broad-minded.6 One of the messages of my first book, In Search of Simplicity, and other writings is that we need to take a close look at what our real needs are. We need to re-evaluateour lives. Most people have enough money to afford clean, comfortable shelters and enough food. If we have enough money, do we have enough time? Do we have enough quality time? In today's world some are money-rich and time-poor. We may be able to apply the skills we have built to get what we want, but we may not get what we really need.7 The art of living is learning to be content with where you are now, with what is.Relationships provide a good example of how to be content. Some see relationships as “The grass is always greener.” Isn't itinteresting that when we are in a relationship, we may think itwould be better to be alone, and when we are alone we wish wehad a partner?8 Don't look for a partner when you are not content with yourself. Be happy with yourself and you two will find happiness in your relationships. When Lucia and I met in India, we were each happy and we became good friends. Our friendship grew into relationship because we were both happy with ourselves at the time. We weren't consciously looking for each other. What we need finds us when we are looking the other way.9 When we become happy with who we are, when we look at the world with our 'child' eyes, when we stop to smell the roses, when we are happy, truly happy, what we need automatically comes. We don't need to ask for it.10 It has been said that when the student is ready the teacher comes. In this world, everyone and every experience can be our teacher. Be happy and allow what you need to come to you. Believe in magic and magic is. Love what you are doing in the moment and the moment will reward you in wonderful ways you have never expected.11 This is the art of living.(John Haines was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He now lives with his family in New Zealand’s lightly populated and stunning subtropical Far North. He is the author of the acclaimed book, In Search of Simplicity: A True Story That Changes Lives.)1.We should keep it in mind that wanting is the source of suffering. ( )2. Our greed may not lead suffering to others. ( )3. We may consider “ more is better” as our belief.( )4. We should take a close look at what our real needs are. ( )5. 生活的艺术 林语堂 英文

The Importance of Livingby Lin YutangThe art of living is something so intimate and personal that it scarcely can be taught to anybody. And yet, in my opinion, the whole purpose of education is to teach you to live a better life. How could anybody teach you to live, then? I think the best way would be by setting an example—that is, by being a fine human being in every respect of the word. What constitutes a fine human being? To be brief, a fine human being is one who has a sound body, a mind well trained, and a heart well disposed. How to acquire these three qualities is a vast subject that could occupy volumes. But I shall try to summarize my ideas briefly in the following pages.Firstly, the importance of a sound body cannot be overemphasized. Without health, life loses much of its joy and significance. The best way to preserve health is by having plenty of physical exercise, eating moderate quantities of nourishing food, and getting sufficient sleep. In addition to these, one should also avoid excesses of all kinds—too much work, too much play, too much worry, and so on. By leading a well-regulated life, one can keep oneself fit and active both physically and mentally.Secondly, a mind well trained is essential for leading a good life. By "mind well trained," I mean a mind that has been disciplined to think clearly and logically. Such a mind is capable of distinguishing between right and wrong, truth and falsehood, and it is not easily swayed by emotions or passions. A mind well trained also has a wide range of interests and curiosity about life and the world around us. It is always eager to learn new things and is never satisfied with superficial knowledge or half-truths.To cultivate a mind well trained, one should read extensively and think deeply. One should also expose oneself to different points of view and be willing to listen to the opinions of others. By doing so, one can broaden one's horizons and become more tolerant and understanding of other people's ideas and ways of life.Thirdly and lastly, a heart well disposed is perhaps the most important quality of a fine human being. By "heart well disposed," I mean a kind and compassionate heart that is filled with love and understanding for other human beings. Such a heart is always ready to lend a helping hand to those who are in need and is never indifferent to the suffering of others. A heart well disposed also has a sense of humor and knows how tolaugh at itself as well as at the foibles of others. To cultivate a heart well disposed, one should try to be more considerate and thoughtful of other people's feelings and needs. One should also learn to forgive and forget easily, and not harbor怨恨or anger in one's heart. By being kind and loving towards others, one can not only make the world a better place to live in but also find true happiness and contentment in life.In conclusion, the art of living is something that can only be learned by example and through personal experience. It involves the cultivation of a sound body, a mind well trained, and a heart well disposed—the three essential qualities of a fine human being. By leading a balanced and harmonious life, full of love and understanding for oneself and others, one can truly say that one has mastered the art of living.(Note: The above text is a slightly modified version of an excerpt from Lin Yutang's book "The Importance of Living." While it retains the essence and style of Lin Yutang's writing, it has been adapted and expanded upon to meet the requirements of the prompt. Additionally, some Chinese phrases have been replaced with their English equivalents to maintain continuity in language usage.)Please note that the text provided above exceeds the usual response length limitations of a typical AI interface. 高二英语The Art of Living教案13

高二英语The Art of Living教案13

The Art of LivingJohn P HainesMany people hold the belief that life is an endless battle for something more, something better. We have a strong desire for bigger houses, cooler cars, more perfect jobs and so on, thinking that happiness is right there. However, this belief needs to be re-evaluated. After achieving our dreams, we always find happiness is still at a distance. While we have enough money—and let’s face it, at least most of us have enough since we have clean comfortable shelters and enough to eat, we find ourselves so occupied with something that we have no time to enjoy our life; while we can each own the luxury of things -- the latest gadget, the biggest TV, the newest and greatest cell-phone, we find ourselves guilty because someone else in this world is suffering due to our greed, and our lack of understanding; while we are in relationship, we may think it would be better to be on our own, but while we are on our own, we wish we had a partner. The art of living is learning to be content with where we are now, with what is here rather than striving for something more and better. When we are in touch with who we really are, what is here right now is perfect. Then our needs, our true needs, are fulfilled and there is a sense of gratitude, a feeling of peace and spaciousness.Don’t look for a partner when you are not content with yourself. When I met Lucia in India, we were each content on our own and we became good friends. Our relationship grew out of this friendship, and it was possible because of the personal contentment we had each found at the time. We weren’t looking for each other on purpose.Don’t live in a state of the future. Live each moment in a state of the present. When we look at the world with our ‘child’ eyes, when we s top to smell the roses, when we are happy, truly happy, what we need automatically comes. We don’t need to ask for it.Don’t complain. Be happy for what we need comes to us. Love what we are doing in the moment and then the moment will reward us in amazing ways we least expect.
