A number of economists, including those National City and Wachovia, don’t expect business investment, which make up about one –tenth of US economic activity, to decline through 2009. According to a survey of 679 chief financial officers by Duke University and CFO Magazine this month, US businesses expect to cut capital spending by more than 10% in the next 12 months, a sharp decrease from September, when the CFOs expected business investment to increase slightly.John Graham, finance professor at Duke and director of the survey, says businesses are finding ways to repair existing machinery and buildings rather than replace equipment or move. They likely won’t increase their spending until they see concrete evidence that the economy is improving.Those planning meeting for late winter and early spring are either buying fewer or less – expensive items, or they’re not buying at all. Robert Coen, director of forecasting at media – analysis firm Magna, predicts a 4.5% drop in ad spending to $ 259 billion in 2009 on the heels of a 3.2% drop in 2008. “A recovery in US ad budgets will probably not get underway until 2010,”he says. Another negative for 2009: There aren’t any big ad –spending events such as the Olympics or national elections.Declining business spending will hurt a number of industries but will be especially tough for the manufacturing sector. Nearly two –thirds of manufacturers expect revenue(税收) to be unchanged or lower in 2009 than 2008, a survey from the Institute for Supply Management found.57.According to John Graham, how did businesses to deal with the economy crisis?A. When you swim underwater, you can feel water push down your body. The air all around you does the same. However, your body is so used to it that you do not notice this. The pressure is caused by a layer of air called the atmosphere. This layer surrounds the Earth, exten ding to about five kilometers above the Earth’s surface.The following experiment is an easy one that you can do at home. But make sure that you are supervised, because you will need to use matches. Now foe the experiment!What you need·A hard-boiled egg without the shell·A bottle with a neck slightly smaller than the egg·A piece of paper·A matchMetheod1) Check that the paper will sit firmly on the neck of the bottle. 2) Tear the paper into strips and put the strips into the bottle. 3) Light the paper by dropping a burning match into the bottle. 4) Quickly sit the egg on the neck of the bottle.ResultAstonishingly, the egg will be sucked into the bottle. Your friends will be amazed when you show them the experiment. But be careful when you handle matches.Why it happenedAs the paper burns, it needs oxygen and uses up the oxygen (air)in the bottle. The egg acts as a seal in the neck of the bottle, so no more air can get inside. This reduces the air pressure inside the bottle. The air pressure must equalize, so more air from outside must enter the bottle. The outside air pressure against the egg and then the egg is pushed into the bottle! The proves that air is all aroundand that it is pressing down on it.60. Why is there the need to take care when you are doing the experiment?A. The bottle could break.B. You need to light the paper with a match.C. The egg needs to be shelled.D. The egg has to be perfectly placed on the neck of the bottle.61. The outside air pressure forced it into the bottle.63. Graduates earn more than non-graduates. Meanwhile, social mobility is ever more dependent on having a degree. However, only some people have it. So the individual, not the taxpayers, should pay for it. There are pressing calls on the resources (资源) of the government. Using taxpayers' money to help a small number of people to earn high incomes in the future is not one of them. www. .com/gaokao/beijingFull government funding (资助) is not very good for universities. Adam Smith worked in a Scottish university whose teachers lived off student fees. He knew and looked down upon18th-century Oxford, where the academics lived comfortably off the income received from the government. Guaranteed salaries, Smith argued, were the enemy of hard work; and when the academics were lazy and incompetent, the students were similarly lazy. www. .com/gaokao/beijingIf students have to pay for their education, they not only work harder, but also demand more from their teachers. And their teachers have to keep them satisfied. If that means taking teaching seriously, and giving less time to their own research interests, that is surely something to celebrate.Many people believe that higher education should be free because it is good for the economy (经济). Many graduates clearly do contribute to national wealth, but so do all the businesses that invest () and create jobs. If you believe that the government should pay for higher education because graduates are economically productive, you should also believe that the government should pay part of business costs. Anyone promising to create jobs should receive a gift of capital from the government to invest. Therefore, it is the individual, not the government, who should pay for their universityeducation.68. (2)由测量头读数,a=0.640 mm.Δx=1a,4λ=3310.640103104 m 0.7--⨯⨯⨯⨯ =7×10-7 m.

A“Cleverness is a gift while kindness is a choice. Gifts are easy—they’re given after all. Choices can be hard.”——Jeff BezosI got the idea to start Amazon 16 years ago. I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2,300 percent per year. I’d never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast, and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me. I had just turned 30 years old, and I’d been married for a year. I told my wife MacKenzie that I wanted to quit my job and go to do this crazy thing that probably wouldn’t work since most start-ups don’t, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. MacKenzie told me I should go for it. As a young boy, I’d been a garage inventor. I’d always wanted to be an inventor, and she wanted me to follow my passion.I was working at a financial firm in New York City with a bunch of very smart people, and I had a brilliant boss that I much admired. I went to my boss and told him I wanted to start a company selling books on the Internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park, listened carefully to me, and finally said, “That sounds like a really good idea, but it would be an even better idea for someone who didn’t already have a good job.” That logic made some sense to me, and he convinced me to think about it for 48 hours before making a final decision. Seen in that light, it really was a difficult choice, but ultimately (最后), I decided I had to give it a shot. I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing. But I believed I would always be haunted by a decision of not trying at all.After much consideration, I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice. For all of us, in the end, we are our choices.31. What inspired the author with the idea of building an online bookstore?A. His dream of being an inventor.B. The support of his wife.C. The greatly increasing usage of the Internet.D. Millions of exciting titles.32. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined sentence?A. The idea of not trying would keep coming to his mind and disturb him.B. He would be very excited if he tried it out.C. He would be always having a doubt if he didn’t try.D. The decision of not trying the online bookstore would terrify him.33. We can know from the passage that __________.A. the boss thought the idea was suitable for the authorB. the author wanted someone else to try the ideaC. the author might not regret if he failed the ideaD. the author might go back to his boss if he failed34. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A. Cleverness and KindnessB. The Starting of AmazonC. Following My PassionD. We Are What We ChooseBCNN news-Jan 16, 2013Protests (抗议) have been going on for about a week now in the northern Irish capital of Belfast. They started out peacefully, but some of them turned violent later on. There is a lot of history behind these protests, and it starts with geography. What’s interesting is that Northern Ireland is not part of the Republic of Ireland. It’s part of the United Kingdom, and that’s what’s behind this tension. Nationalists, mostly Catholic, think Northern Ireland should be part of the Republic of Ireland. Unionists, or Loyalists, mostly Protestants, want to stay part of the United Kingdom. The conflict between those two groups led to decades of violence, and more than 3,000 people were killed before a peace deal was signed in 1998. The protests happening now are connected to a decision related to the British flag. In Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, the flag used to fly over City Hall every day of the year. Last month, local officials decided to limit that to 18 days per year. Unionists weren’t happy about that. In some cases protesters have thrown concrete blocks, bricks, and even gasoline bombs at police. Officers have responded by using water cannons to break up the protesters.Next up, we are heading to the capital of China, Beijing. Experts say that city has something in common with Los Angeles: smog. This gray haze is hanging in the air, making things hard to see. Yesterday, the numbers indicating smog levels were off the charts. Authorities warned people there to stay inside. Last year nearly 700 flights were canceled at Beijing airports because of haze and smog. Officials in China say that the air quality in the capital has gotten better since Beijing hosted the 2008 Olympics, but residents say the pollution levels have gotten worse.35. What’s behind the tension in Belfast?A. Northern Ireland doesn’t belong to the Republic of Ireland.B. Northern Ireland plans to break away from Ireland.C. Northern Ireland intends to become independent.D. Ireland is too complicated a country to be united.36. Which group of people think Ireland should NOT be divided into two parts?A. Unionists.B. Nationalists.C. Loyalists.D. Local officials.37. The direct cause of the protest going on now is that __________.A. lots of people were killed in decades of violenceB. a peace deal was signed between the two groupsC. the police used violence to break up the protestersD. British flag won’t appear over City Hall every day38. According to the news report, what does Beijing have in common with Los Angeles?A. Delayed flights.B. Angry people.C. Smog.D.
故选A。
答案为A。
