2024届河北省邢台市第一中学高三下学期二轮复习质检测试英语试题一、阅读理解There is a day in the life with AI, who follows your move: the way you travel, the food you eat, how you spend your money, the news you read and your social interactions...7a.m You wake up and glance at your iPhone, which unlocks itself using facial recognitionApple’s Face ID changes your face to a set of numbers that act as your own unique identifier. This biometric portrait is not set in stone-it uses AI to track changes in your appearance, updating its model if you grow a beard, change your makeup style or get older and it also detects whether your eyes are open and your attention is directed at your phone.8:30a.m You drive to work in your electric carCars such as the Tesla can do most of the ordinary aspects of driving. The vehicle’s AI system collects data from eight cameras, identifies obstacles, lanes, intersections and traffic lights and decides what action to take, whether moving skillfully into an awkward parking spot or overtaking a slow lorry. But self-driving cars know only how to deal with situations they have seen before and an ongoing challenge is how to equip them for rare and unexpected events.4:30p.m Your phone rings with a message from your Amazon Ring doorbell-a package has been delivered to your doorstepLast year, about one in five households in the UK reported having an AI-based home security system. Amazon Ring uses a motion-activated camera, heat sensor and radar and uses computer vision software to make users different when a person, or a package, is outside their property. Humans have a heavy heat signature and with the radar, the object moving in 3D spaces can be detected.9:30p.m You scroll (滚动) through a newspaper article that contains a special ad As you read news articles, scroll through social media, make Google searches and buy things online, you leave a trail of clues about who you are, what you might want to spend your money on-that is incredibly valuable for digital advertisers. AI sift (筛) this data for insights into your age, gender, lifestyle, income and your hobbies. This allows companies such as Google to serve up specific, targeted adverts that pop up as you scroll through a news article.1.Which of the following is the disadvantage of electric cars?A.Tendency to cut in.B.Speeding on the lane.C.Uncontrolled parking areas.D.Lack of information about emergencies. 2.What can we learn about AI from the text?A.Apple’s Face ID may change your facial features.B.Self-driving vehicles can replace human drivers.C.About 20% of English homes adopt Amazon Ring.D.AI can work out your personal online preference.3.What information does the text convey?A.We will live a better life with AI.B.AI enters many aspects of our life.C.The smartphone is a necessity for us.D.Personal information is no longer secure.Well, it isn’t a long story, but I wonder if you will really understand.I used to be crazy about hunting. There’s a thrill in hunting, an excitement that comes over you when a deer crashes out of the bush. After hunting, you feel great to show off with the boys.It was like that the last time I was in the woods. I went up into the hills alone, heading for a well-used deer trail. Sure enough there were fresh tracks in the snow. Then I saw him. A deer, a big beautiful deer! Surely I couldn’t miss! I waited for him to realize I was there and run away. But he fooled me completely. He came towards me! He was curious, I suppose, or maybe he was stupid—how else can you explain it?He must have known about men and guns. But he came closer, putting one foot before the other, slowly and purposefully. His big eyes never moved from my face. Well, that deer walked right up to me. Then he stopped and looked at me!What happened next is hard to believe, but it’s true. And it all seemed quite natural. Just as when a friendly puppy comes near you, I reached up and scratched his head, right between the horns. And he liked to be scratched. That big, wild, beautiful deer bent his head like a young horse. In fact, he practically asked for more. I scratched his head and his nose poked at my shoulder. He didn’t even tremble. Well, he finally went his way, down the hill and up the deer trail. Shoot him? Not me. You wouldn’t have either, not after that. I just watched him go.There’s very little more to tell. I picked up my thermos, and started walking back. I wasabout half way back when I heard two shots, followed by a dull slam a few seconds later. Those two shoots usually mean a kill. I had forgotten there were other hunters that day. Those hunters would never know they could have scratched his head...4.Why did the author mention his craze for hunting?A.To present a cause.B.To illustrate an idea.C.To make a contrast.D.To explain a phenomenon.5.Why did the author change his mind and let the deer go?A.The deer was stupid.B.The author was not prepared.C.Their interaction softened the author.D.The deer fooled the author into doing that.6.What can be inferred from the text?A.The deer was probably killed.B.The deer was alert to human beings.C.The author is an inexperienced hunter.D.The author was happy that the deer ran away.7.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?A.A Hunting in Late Fall B.A Lovely DeerC.The Cruel Killing D.The Last HuntingThe easiest and least complicated way to motivate somebody is quite simply to pay them attention. What you say is not important, nor necessarily is how long you spend saying it, as long as it’s something. “Nice weather” or “How are you?” will do.People just love attention, adults and children. Children love attention so much that they will do anything to get some. In fact, if children are not getting enough attention, they would rather be naughty and get told off than be “good” and be ignored. An interesting time in most households with young children is dinnertime-it’s the end of the day, everybody is tired, the house is in a mess and Johnny doesn’t like carrots and is refusing to eat his food. Again, the easy trap to fall into is to start getting cross with Johnny and getting into a big argument about his food. Again, he’s getting the attention he desires; even if it’s not the best sort of attention, it’s better thannothing. It’s fascinating if you are able to stand back from the situation and instead focus attention and praise on Johnny’s brother who is eating his food-after all, he is one that is doing what you want him to do. After five or ten minutes or so of being ignored, it’s amazing how quickly (usually) Johnny sees sense and obeys. I’ve watched my own children in this situation go from screaming from behind the sofa, saying “Mummy, aren’t I doing good dinner eating?”-all without having one word spoken to them by their parents, who are busily paying attention to their brothers. This fundamental need for attention, and doing whatever it takes to get it, doesn’t disappear when we turn into adults. Sure, there are people who are “real attention seekers” in a loud and extravert (外向的) way, and there are the shy, retiring types who don’t want attention in such a “sociable” way. But everybody still wants to be recognized and seen worthwhile.8.What will children probably do to get parents attention?A.They will get quiet for a long time.B.They will ignore their parents.C.They will behave naughtily.D.They will get cross easily.9.What does the underlined phrase “the easy trap to fall into” mean?A.A set-up situation parents are likely to go into.B.The household work that parents can not avoid.C.Some tempting food children easily love to eat.D.A bad habit children easily develop.10.An effective way to make children behave themselves may be ________.A.scolding them severely B.teaching them what to doC.giving them total freedom D.praising their sisters or brothers11.What point does the author make by relating to children’s behavior?A.Children s upbringing needs parents’ constant care.B.Children are usually extravert while adults are sociable.C.Both children and adults need to be seen as worthwhile.D.The motivation of children differs greatly from that of adults. For thousands of years, people have known that the best way to understand a concept is to explain it to someone else. “While we teach. we learn.” said Roman philosopher Seneca. Now scientists are bringing this ancient wisdom up-to-date. They are documenting why teaching is sucha fruitful way to learn, and designing innovative ways for young people to engage in instruction.Researchers have found that students who sign up to tutor others work harder to understand the material, recall it more accurately and apply it more effectively. Student teachers score higher on tests than pupils who are learning only for their own sake. But how children, still learning themselves, teach others? One answer. They can tutor younger kids. Some studies have found that first-born children are more intelligent than their later-born siblings. This suggests their higher IQs result from the time they spend teaching their siblings. Now educators are experimenting with ways to apply this model to academic subjects. They engage college undergraduates to teach computer science to high school students, who in turn instruct middle school students on the topic. But the most cutting-edge tool under development is the “teachable agent” —a computerized character who learns, tries, makes mistakes and asks questions just like a real-world pupil. Computer scientists have created an animated figure called Betty’s Brain, who has been “taught” about environmental science by hundreds of middle school students. Student teachers are motivated to help Betty master certain materials. While preparing to teach, they organize their knowledge and improve their own understanding. And as they explain the information to it, they identify problems in their own thinking.Feedback from the teachable agents further enhances the tutors learning. The agents’ questions compel student tutors to think and explain the materials in different ways, and watching the agent solve problems allows them to see their knowledge put into action.Above all, it’s emotions one experiences in teaching that facilitate learning. Student tutors feel upset when their teachable agents fail, but happy when these virtual pupils succeed as they derive pride and satisfaction from someone else’s accomplishment.12.What are researchers rediscovering through their studies?A.Seneca’s thinking is still applicable today.B.Better learners will become betterteachers.C.Human intelligence tends to grow with age.D.Philosophical thinking improvesinstruction.13.What do we learn about Betty’s Brain?A.It is a character in a popular animation.B.It is a teaching tool under development.C.It is a cutting-edge app in digital games.D.It is a tutor for computer science students.14.What is the key factor that benefits student tutors’ learning?A.Their sense of responsibility.B.The learning strategy acquired.C.Their emotional involvement.D.The teaching experience gained. 15.What’s the author’s attitude towards student tutors’ learning?A.Opposed B.Indifferent C.Ambiguous D.FavorableDon’t Lose MotivationMany of us have a dream that we would love to achieve. Having dreams is fine, but achieving dreams requires determination, single-mindedness, courage, and commitment.16 . Staying motivated can be hard, especially if you think you are being frustrated frequently. How, then, do we get motivated? 17 Motivational speakers outline their recipes for success. There are videos, books, documentaries, and online courses available to anyone seeking motivation. Our dreams are usually a bit vague (模糊的). 18 . A long-term goal will be the ultimate dream — let’s say, setting up a new business. Short-term and medium-term goals will be the stages on the road to the final goal.19 . Their attitude is going to be optimistic and confident, and you can draw on that yourself. Negative thoughts can soon disappear if you are with people who exude (洋溢) positivity.Often we can learn more from our mistakes than we can from our successes. If we make a mistake, then we have to analyze why. By thinking about the error, working out what went wrong, and seeking another way of doing the task, we are learning. We must not see failures as a bad thing. 20 .It is important not to worry about losing motivation. The important thing is to tackle it as soon as you realize your motivation has gone. Think about why your self-motivation has been lost and then get back on the road to success.A.The first step to achieving a dream is to turn it into a series of goalsB.Your plan itself is a source of self-motivationC.You can keep yourself motivated by mixing with other motivated peopleD.Above all, we must feel motivated to fulfill our dreams and remain motivatedE.Review your progress regularly to make sure that you are still on course for success F.They enable us to avoid the mistake happening another timeG.A whole industry has grown up dedicated to motivating people二、完形填空Ben was bothered every time he went through the kitchen.

One day, he wandered in a beautiful small town. Because of his fame, people from nearby towns who heard of his arrival all came to visit and seek his advice. Many who came sought help with difficulties in daily life, and Thomas, unable to bear turning them away, patiently offered suggestions. Word spread quickly, and more and more people came to see Thomas for guidance. One day, dozens of people crowded outside Thomas’s door, all clamoring (大声地要求) that their problems were the most serious and urgent, each insisting that Thomas address their concerns first, with no one willing to yield (让步).After a moment of thought, Thomas took out some paper and a pen and said, “I can’t hear clearly with everyone talking at once. How about everyone write down your problem on a piece of paper and place it in this basket beside me?”Once everyone had placed their notes in the basket, Thomas shook the basket and said, “Please each take a piece of paper from the basket and read what it says.”As everyone read a note from someone else, they all realized that indeed, each person has their own troubles, and every household has its own challenges. Then Thomas spoke up, “Now, whose problem is the most urgent to solve?” Hearing that question, no one spoke again, because now no one dared to claim that their problem was the most severe.Often, we are bound by our immediate feelings. When difficulties and problems strike, it feels as though we are caught in a vortex of pain. But if we shift our focus from ourselves and look towards others, we might discover that the problems we face are not so significant. Perhaps others are the ones who need help more urgently, or maybe there is something within our power that we can do for them.4.Why did people visit Thomas?A.For advice.B.For a meeting.C.For a competition.D.For introductions.5.How did Thomas handle the crowd?A.He ignored them.B.He listened to each one individually.C.He prioritized the problems himself.D.He asked them to write down their problems. 6.What did reading others’ problems show to the people?A.The complexity of their difficulties.B.The similarity of their situations.C.Their need for more advice.D.Their living conditions.7.What lesson did Thomas teach?A.Competition.B.Sympathy.C.Prioritization.D.Self-confidence.Honeybees command a lot of attention in insect conservation circles, as they are important for pollinating our food supply. But the findings from researchers emphasize the importance of prioritizing other pollinators or insects like wild bees, moths and butterflies in conservation efforts, too.For the study, ecologists Joshua Kohn and Dillon Travis from the University of California, painstakingly tracked the pollination of flowers from two plant species in San Diego — white sage and Phacelia distans. Often Travis sat for hours waiting for a single pollinator, honeybees or other insects, to land on a flower. Each time he put a mesh (网状的) bag on the flower to prevent any new visitor, then back to collect seeds from different visitors. Back in the greenhouse, the team grew the seeds, analyzing characteristics that reflected their quality, such as how many seeds grew and survived and how many leaves or flower seedlings (幼苗) grew from them. They found flowers pollinated by honeybees make fewer and lower-quality seeds than flowers visited by other pollinators. The white sage and Phacelia distans plants produced roughly half the amount of seeds from flowers pollinated by honeybees compared with other pollinators. And Phacelia distans seeds from honeybee-pollinated plants grew into seedlings with fewer flowers. The researchers also found that honeybees visited about twice as many flowers on one plant before moving to the next than the average of other pollinators, causing honeybees to transfermore pollen in flowers of the same plant, thus resulting in fewer and lower-quality and more inbred (近亲繁殖的) seeds. Other pollinators more often flew between different plants, probably transferring more diverse pollen.Travis says, “Honeybees’ pollination habit can impact ecosystems and agriculture in the long term. One potential consequence could be that native plant populations decline as next generations become more inbred, reducing biodiversity.”“It is time to actually shift our dependence for pollination from largely honeybees to other native species as well,” says Jaya Sravanthi Mokkapati, an entomologist at Penn State University. 8.What does paragraph 2 focus on about the research?A.Its procedures.B.Its members.C.Its impact.D.Its significance.9.Why do plants pollinated by honeybees produce fewer and lower-quality seeds?A.Honeybees cause big damage to plants’ seeds.B.Honeybees are less selective while pollinating.C.Honeybees’ pollination efficiency is unexpectedly low.D.Honeybees prefer to pollinate flowers of the same plant.10.What did Travis think of their findings?A.Misleading.B.Worrying.C.Creative.D.Helpful. 11.What is Jaya Sravanthi Mokkapati’s point of view?A.Native plant populations are declining at a high speed.B.Honeybees’ pollination impacts plant seeds temporarily.C.More attention should be paid to protecting other pollinators.D.Honeybees’ pollination depends more on other native species.Cloud “engineering” could be more effective for climate cooling than previously thought, because of the increased cloud cover produced, new research shows. In a study published in Nature Geoscience, researchers at the University of Birmingham found that marine cloud brightening (MCB), also known as marine cloud engineering, works primarily by increasing the amount of cloud cover, accounting for 60%-90% of the cooling effect. The practice of MCB has attracted much attention in recent years as a way of offsetting theglobal warming effects caused by humans and buying some time while the global economy decarbonizes (脱碳). It works by spraying tiny particles, or aerosols (气溶胶), into the atmosphere where they mix with clouds and with the primary aim of increasing the amount of sunlight that clouds can reflect. However, the ways in which MCB creates a cooling effect, and the ways in which clouds will respond to aerosols, are still poorly understood. To investigate the phenomenon, the researchers created a “natural experiment”, using aerosol injection from the effusive eruption of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii to study the interactions between these natural aerosols, clouds, and climate.Using machine learning and historic satellite and meteorological (气象学的) data, the team created a predictor to show how the cloud would behave during periods when the volcano was inactive. This predictor enabled them to identify clearly the impacts on the clouds that had been directly caused by the volcanic aerosols. They were able to show that the cloud cover relatively increased by up to 50% during the periods of volcanic activity, producing a cooling effect of up to — 10 W/m² regionally.Lead author, Dr Ying Chen, of the University of Birmingham, said, “Our findings show that marine cloud brightening could be more effective as a climate intervention than climate models have suggested previously. Of course, while it could be useful, MCB does not address the underlying causes of global warming from greenhouse gases produced by human activities. It should therefore be regarded as a ‘painkiller’, rather than a solution.”12.How does MCB help global cooling according to the study?A.By decreasing the amount of sunlight.B.By boosting the volume of cloud cover.C.By reducing the amount of cloud cover.D.By removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.13.What does the underlined word “offsetting” mean in paragraph 3?A.Weakening.B.Destroying.C.Ignoring.D.Suspending. 14.What does Dr Ying Chen think of MCB?A.Perfect.B.Ineffective.C.Valueless.D.Fruitful. 15.What can be the best title for the text?A.The Mechanism Behind Marine Cloud BrighteningB.Understanding The Impact Of Aerosols On Clouds And ClimateC.Enhancing Climate Cooling Through Marine Cloud BrighteningD.Marine Cloud Brightening: A Solution To Climate Cooling StrategyThe months of July and August are often known as the “dog days of summer”, bringing in longer, hotter and sunnier days for you to throw the perfect dog birthday party.Choosing the right spotIf you’re lucky enough to have a garden big enough, that couldn’t be better. 16 . If not, then dog - friendly parks, beaches and cafes can also make for great alternatives. Consider how many guests you’ll be inviting, both humans and animals, and make sure the space is big and secure enough to accommodate.Picking the menu17 ! Some bakeries and pet stores will provide treats perfect for the occasion. However when in doubt, homemade is always better. Take a look online and you’ll find a ton of recipes and take a look at the ingredients to make sure they’re good for the dogs.Setting up activities Dogs love to socialise and play together, so why not bring a few activities into the mix. From frozen lick mats, tug of war to even a mini swimming pool, there are plenty of options to keep the guests of honour entertained. 18 . It can show off their dogs’ best skills. 19 Photos of your puppy party will give you memories to look back on forever, and who doesn’t love showing their pup off online? Dating apps can be tricky to operate, particularly when you’re trying to know whether someone is trustworthy, but one thing you can’t cheat is your ge ne, which is why a new dating app is using DNA as a basis for its match.A dating app named Pheramor requires all users to hand in a check sample, from which a team of in-house scientists using a specially-created tool can queue the specific genes connected with attraction and then identify which users might be suitable. The process works by separating the 11 genes that link to our pheromones (信息素), the chemical signals that are believed to control one’s attraction. Combining this data with the personal inf ormation allows the app to make very specific matches.“Pheramor uses both your biology and your social technology: we collect your genetic data through a check sample and collect your like, dislikes, and interests from your social media introductions like Facebook, Twitter, etc,” the app’s website explains. “All of them will be used in our specific software, which is designed to learn what you prefer.”The co-founder Brittany Barreto, who has a PHD in genetics added that Pheramor’s technology digs deeper than traditional dating apps, making it almost impossible for people to cheat their way to a date. The Houston-based app is already up and running but hopes to be officially put into market in February with 3,000 members.32.
