In addition to developing students’reading and writing abilities, this lesson will alsointroduce students to choices they will have to make about their own future careers. Also, the students will be guided to discover an effective way of doing research----by asking questions.The analysis of teaching materials:This reading is about the life and career of a famous Chinese doctor---Lin Qiaozhi,who was important for women in China because she made great achievements on women’s diseases and the problem of having babies. She inspired many people to carry on her good work. Instead of introducing Lin Qiaozhi directly, the passage introduces her from the perspective of a middle school student. Like the writer of the passage, my students may have no clear idea what they would like to do in the future. Therefore, the learning of this lesson may make my students begin to think about their future career choices seriously and at the same time learn from the author how to make the important decision. So in the process of designing this lesson, emphasis shouldn’t be put only on information about Lin Qiaozhi. Besides, in this reading, the author asks herself quite a few questions when researching on Lin Qiaozhi. The students should be guided to discover the author’s method of doing research, that is, asking questions. Actually, this is how scientists and other researchers find out more about their chosen subject.Senior One students are always curious and willing to learn new knowledge. And the topic of this unit is similar to what they have learned in the sister unit NELSON MANDELA---A MODERN HERO (Unit 5, Module 1). By chance I came across an article about a doctor called Lin Qiaozhi, a specialist in women’s disease. She lived from 1901 to 1983. It seemed that she had been very busy in her chosen career, traveling abroad to study as well as writing books and articles. One of them caught my eye. It was a small book explaining how to cut the death rate from having and caring for babies. She gave some simple rules to follow for keeping babies clean, healthy and free from sickness. Why did she write that? Who were the women that Lin Qiaozhi thought needed this advice? I looked carefully at the text and realized that it was intended for women in the countryside. Perhaps if they had a emergency they could not reach a doctor.

2.教材分析:
本单元的中心话题是“女性”。

这部分紧扣主题,它介绍的是一位杰出的女性——林巧稚,我国着名的妇科病专家。

她以其执着的追求和不懈的努力获得事业上的成功。

她关注贫穷的妇女和母亲,尤其是农村妇女.她还把毕生的心血全部奉献给了她的病人和中国的医疗事业。

这篇文章不仅要让学生了解一位中国杰出女性的生平,更重要的是它在如何选择未来事业的问题上给了学生一定的启发。

3.学情分析:
学生在学习了必修1—必修3后,其阅读技能(Scanning 和Skimming)基本形成,因此教师在本节课中主要起到的是启发作用。
