A. Choose the best answer (根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案): ( 12分)Every country in the world has a flag. A flag is a piece of cloth with a picture or pattern on it. The flag is a symbol that stands for the country. It is a custom in many places for people to fly or hang a flag. The flag tells something about the country and its culture. This may be about its land, its history, or the things that the people do there. Many flags have patterns of stripes(条纹). The flag of Italy has a green stripe, a white stripe and a red stripe. Each stripe tells something about Italy. The white stripe is a symbol of Italy’s snowy mountains. Some flags show pictures. The flag of Canada has a picture of a red maple(枫树)leaf, which is a symbol of the maple trees in Canada. The Mexican flag has both a pattern of stripes and a picture. The picture shows an eagle eating a snake. This picture comes from a very old Mexican story.A flag may also tell about a country’s past. The American flag is called the Stars and Stripes. It has a pattern of fifty stars and thirteen stripes. The fifty stars are a symbol of the fifty states in the country, and the thirteen stripes are a symbol of the country’s first thirteen colonies(殖民地).However, a flag may be a symbol of a group, a school, or an event like the Olympics. The flag of the Olympics shows five rings of different colors that connect. Each ring is a symbol for a part of the world that joins in the Olympics. The Red Cross is a group that helps people who are in trouble. If a person sees the Red Cross flag, which has a red cross against a white background, he knows he can ask for help. People may fly a flag as a custom on a holiday. Children’s Day in Japan is a holiday when the country wishes for children’s happiness. It is a custom on this day to fly a flag with a picture of a fish.Flags are also used as a way to talk. A flag with patterns can be very helpful to people who do not speak the same language. Sailors on ships use flags to talk to sailors on other ships. They may not speak the same language, but they know what the patters mean. A flag with blue and white squares says “no.” A flag with five stripes that are blue, white, and red says “yes.”1.We can usually see ______ on a flag.A) different languages B) a country’s past C) a picture or pattern D) people2.Which of the following is the flag of Mexico?A) B)C)D)3.We can tell from the American flag that there are ______ states in the country.A) 1B) 3C) 13D) 504. 6.

小小进步增信心;
A. Choose the best answer (根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案) (12分)Dear Sir / Madam,I am writing to complain about the TV advertisement for your product Cheese in a Tube. In my opinion, there is some false information in it, and it also encourages children to have bad eating habits. In the advertisement, there is a popular TV cartoon character who says that Cheese in a Tube is “thebest cheese in the world”. This is, of course, not true. However, I havetwo young children who love the cartoon character in theadvertisement. Now they hope to eat the cheese every day. Theybelieve that your cheese is the best in the world and they don’t wantany other kind. The cartoon character then says that Cheese in a Tube is “good for young kids”. Well, I checked the information on the packet. There certainly isn’t very much cheese in your product – only 5% – and it has more fat and calories(热量) than chocolate! It’s probably one of the unhealthiest things you can buy in the supermarket. Child obesity is a huge problem in our country. Our children are the fattest in the world, and products like yours just make things worse. Finally, the advertisement ends with two beautiful, slim, healthy-looking children sitting in front of the TV. Their mother calls them to come to the kitchen to eat a vegetable salad. The children say they’re watching their favourite cartoon – the same character who is in the advertisement, of course – so what does the mother do? She brings each of them some Cheese in a Tube! The parents eat their salad in the kitchen while the children enjoy the cheese in front of the TV! I believe that it’s good for children and parents to eat together, but obviously (明显地) your company doesn’t.Please change this terrible advertisement. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题) ( 12分)It began with one red paper clip (回形针) and ended with a house. Kyle MacDonald, a 26-year-old Canadian, got a three-bedroomed house through 14 trades(交换).Seeing Kyle’s successful experience, now more and more young people around the world are starting their own trading activities. They set up websites wherepeople can trade things they do not usually use with other people. A website calledPeerfix allows people to trade their used DVDs. These traders usually preferface-to-face trading, which means they don’t have to worry about who is going topay for the delivery.Last year, a young girl in Beijing decided to follow the example of Kyle. She started with a paper clip and hoped to get a house in the end. After several trades she now has a piano which is worth more than 10,000 yuan. But she may still have a long way to go.You may wonder why people are so interested in those trading activities. If you ask Kyle, he will say, “To a man dying of thirst(干渴) in the desert, a glass of water is surely more useful than one million dollars, isn’t it?” Kyle’s words probably show why these trades are popular among young people.1.Did Kyle start his trade with a house?2.Where does Kyle come from?3.How do young people start their trading activities?4.Why do some traders like face-to-face trading?5.What has the girl in Beijing got after several trades?6.According to Kyle’s words, why are these trades popular among young people? Choose the words and complete the passage(选择最恰当的单词完成短文)(12分)I can remember clearly the day I arrived at the language camp where something magical happened to me.My heart was beating fast and I really wanted to tell Mom to turn around, but we were entering the gate and I knew it was too late.
