Just about every time I make a new friend, that person leaves, and then another walks along, and then that one leaves, and so on.That's just the nature of living in Akron,Ohio. The population has been in steady decline my whole life,so I've spent my life watching people leave.Making your way is harder here — fewer jobs and rough winters.
Throughout all his departure and evolution, one person was always around,a man named John Puglia,my closest friend. We went through college together and began our careers(事业),both joining deeply rooted local institutions.John worked his way up at Roadway Express,a trucking company founded in Akron in 1930.I started writing for the local paper. Now I have written for The New York Times,The Wall Street Journal and many other newspapers.
Although John and I both had ambition and opportunities elsewhere,we felt as if our lives had greater meaning here. Many of our friends had landed in cities like Chicago,New York and Seattle with bigger skyscrapers. But these places also had stress levels and costs of living many times greater than Akron.
John died of cancer in 2013.I miss him every day.But I'm also aware that his_departure_is_different,that his influence lasts forever in the way I love the city we explored, and understand the meaning of my life here.
Akron is my favorite city, not because it compares favorably to other cities but because it doesn't.What I love about Akron is that it makes me try harder every day. It's like a rescued dog.You love it more because it needs you.And isn't that the truest love — the warmth of being needed?
24.What's Akron like?
A.It has a falling population.
B.It is full of job opportunities.
C.It gives people a sense of pride.
D.It helps people to lead a successful life.
25.The author is probably ________.
A.a newspaper editor B.a writer
C.a truck driver D.a teacher
26.By saying “his departure is different” in Para.4,the author means his friend ________.A.never intended to leave the city
B.deserted the city unwillingly
C.died an unnatural death
D.had no choice in career
27.Why has the author stayed in his hometown his whole life?
A.He has no ambition.
B.He is used to the life there.
C.He believes that Akron needs him.
D.He finds that Akron is better than other cities.

Modern museums are trying everything they can to shore up declining attendance.Somehow, there always seems to be some crisis(危机)that they are struggling against —a severe funding cut,for example. What's worse, the unappreciative public is going farther and farther away.So museums do what they can to attract people, and the results are occasionally wonderful and occasionally laughable.
The worst of such results occurs when some curator, someone who is in charge of a museum, decides that the reason the audience isn't pouring through the doors is that the content is over their heads — the history presented is too complex and political, the art too abstract,or the scientific explanations too in-depth.What occurs then is a uniform simplifying of the exhibits.Text is minimized, and historically significant pieces are passed over in favor of those more pretty and pleasing. The museum becomes a place where people go to look at pretty things instead of a place for learning, understanding and appreciating different cultures, art and science.
All these efforts have given rise to the concept of “edutainment”—a mixture in which learning is supposed to be accomplished without any effort at all on the part of the visitor.Displays are constructed with an eye toward their entertainment value, with relevant facts slipped secretly in,as though learning were a bitter pill that must be sugarcoated before the average museum visitors can be induced(劝诱)to swallow it.But true education is an active pursuit, not something one receives like a piece of candy. The museum's job should be to inspire visitors to look deeper, not to force-feed them pre-digested facts.
If a museum becomes indistinguishable from a theme park,it has failed.Nonprofit institutions exist because,if they did not,no for-profit institutions would serve their function. If active scholarship is missing, then by all means, supply it,instead of shaping the museum to resemble successful entertainment enterprises.
32.According to Paragraph 1,modern museums ________.
A.succeed in raising funds
B.are facing many challenges
C.have been quite appreciated
D.are often far away from city centers
33.Some curator thinks that things in a modern museum ________.
A.should be more educational
B.needn't be simple and pleasing
C.are really well displayed
D.are too difficult to understand
34.Which of the following would the author probably agree with?
A.Learning is supposed to be interesting.
B.Museums should help visitors enjoy learning.
C.Edutainment shouldn't be practiced in museums.
D.Museums don't need to provide complex content.
35.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To encourage readers to visit museums.
B.To point out a problem of modern museums.
C.To advise readers to acquire knowledge actively.
D.To show some good changes in modern museums.
