本单元话题取材于《义务教育英语课程标准》话题项目表节假日活动,该话题在初中教材中第二次涉及。因次话题与学生生活息息相关,他们有深刻的生活体验,因此易于接受,敢于开口,有话可说,乐于表达。本单元以周末活动为话题,以运用一般过去时谈论刚刚过去的周末活动为功能。以紧扣话题的5个对话(见教材后附录本单元听力录音材料及2d)、1个短语篇为载体,在具体语境中通过Luck的周末活动和听力输入导入本单元的话题和关键句型:What did you do last weekend? Who went the library? Where did ...?同时复习一些表示周末活动的动词短语,学习一些新短语,如play badminton, camp by the lake。

本单元内容包括29个课标词和21个常用短语和固定搭配。通过模仿对话、自编对话、阅读,学生能根据自己实际情况运用一般过去时谈论刚刚过去的周末活动,同时,在教材P110还提供了有关句子重音的相关说明和语音练习。
