题目的用词直接关系到读者对文章的取舍态度，因为几乎所有著名的权威数据库和文献检索系统都是依据文题进行摘引和编制索引的。
论文题目的确定需要遵循以下原则：原则一：对写作内容的概括要准确具体，不要过宽或过窄。
原则二：除冠词，并列连词，介词和助动词外，所有首字母大写；第一个单词，冒号后的单词，不分词性，一律首字母大写；有时有４－５个字母以上的虚词首字母也大写。
但为了避免因词性规定而可能出现的错误，可使所有词的字母都大写。

另外，还可以采用“整个提名中只第一个词的首字母大写，其余均小写”这样一种形式。
例如：Ｃｏｎｔｒｏｌｌａｂｌｅａｄｍｉｓｓｉｏｎｃｈａｍｂｅｒｏｆｍｏｔｏｒｃｙｃｌｅｍｏｔｏｒ．原则三：要用冒号将主副标题分开，切忌按中文方式用破折号将其分开。

科技论文英文题名的撰写0 引言科技论文的题名是表达论文的特定内容, 反映研究范围和深度的最恰当、最简明的逻辑组合, 即题名应“以最少数量的单词来充分表述论文的内容”[1, 2]。
题名的作用主要有二方面[1, 3]：（1）吸引读者. 题名相当于论文的“标签”(label), 一般读者通常是根据题名来考虑是否需要阅读摘要或全文, 而这个决定往往是在一目十行的过程中做出的。
因此, 题名如果表达不当, 就会失去其应有的作用, 使真正需要它的读者错过阅读论文的机会。
（2）帮助文献追踪或检索。
文献检索系统多以题名中的主题词作为线索, 因而这些词必须要准确地反映论文的核心内容, 否则就有可能产生漏检。
此外, 图书馆和研究机构大都使用自动检索系统, 其中有些是根据题名中的主题词来查找资料的。
因此, 不恰当的题名很可能会导致论文“丢失”, 从而不能被潜在的读者获取。
1 题名撰写的基本要求1.1 准确(Accuracy) 题名要准确地反映论文的内容。
作为论文的“标签”, 题名既不能过于空泛和一般化, 也不宜过于烦琐, 使人得不出鲜明的印象。
如果题名中无吸引读者的信息, 或写得不堪理解, 就会失去读者。
反之, 题名吸引人, 读者就可能会进一步阅读摘要或全文, 甚至复制并保存。
题名中准确的“线索”(keys) 对于文献检索也至关重要。
目前, 大多数索引和摘要服务系统都已采取“关键词”系统, 因此, 题名中的术语应是文章中重要内容的“亮点”(highlight words), 并且易被理解和检索。
为确保题名的含义准确, 应尽量避免使用非定量的、含义不明的词, 如“rapid”, “new”等；并力求用词具有专指性, 如“a vanadium-iron alloy”明显优于“a magnetic alloy”。
Day在其知名论著《如何撰写和发表科技论文》中举例认为[1], 从形式上看, 题名“Action of antibiotics on bacteria”简短且没有“废词”, 也不会因为改为以下形式而得到提高：Preliminary observations on the effect of certain antibiotics on various species of bacteria。
