2. not only … but also 连接两个分句，当 not only 位于句首时，第一个分句中的主语和谓语要部分倒装表示强调，而but (also)后的分句仍用陈述语序。
如：Not only is the teacher himself interested in foreign films，but also all his students are beginning to show an interest in them. 不但老师自己对外国电影感兴趣，就连他所有的学生也开始对外国电影感兴趣了。

7. 也可用but … too/as well 替代not only … but also 中的 but also。

例如：Not only was there no food, but also (或 furthermore, besides, moreover, in addition) there was no water.9. 也可用 merely, just, simply 等替代not only … but also 中的 only。

（汉译时，要先译 as well as 后面的词）例如：The child is not only healthy but also lively.（ = The child is lively as well as healthy.）这孩子既健康又活泼。

as well asas well as可作为副词、介词以及连词使用。
在此结构中，第一个as是副词，第二个as 是连词。
和not only… but also…同义，但前者的语意重点和后者的语意重点恰好颠倒。
值得注意的是，。
A as well as B = not only B but also A 强调重点在 A。
在做并列连词时，连接两个相同的成分，如主语、谓语、宾语、表语和状语等，表示“除……之外、不仅……还……、既……又……、不但……而且……、同、和、并、也”的意思。
一、分清本义与引申义1. 用于本义用于本义，可视为as…as结构与well的自然搭配，用于副词的同等比较，或者引出比较状语从句，其意为“与……一样好”，如：He speaks English as well as her. 他说英语说得跟她一样好。
She plays every bit as well as the men. 她打得一点不比男人们差。
He doesn’t play half as well as his sister. 他演奏的水平不及他姐姐的一半。
He sings as well as, if not better than, Mary.要是他唱歌不比玛丽唱得更好，但至少也是一样好。
引导比较状语从句。
Eg：She doesn’t play the piano as well as you do. 她弹钢琴不如你弹得好。
用法同as much as的用法：I love her as much as you do. 我和你一样爱她。
2. 用于引申义（1）用于引申义，作为习语用作介词时，as well as的涵义是“还有”、“不但…而且…”“既是……也是”“还”。
例如：He grows flowers as well as vegetables. 他既种菜也种花。
She shares (in) my troubles as well as my joys. 她与我同甘共苦。
They have a flat in town as well as a place in the country.他们在城里有一套公寓，在乡村还有一所房子。
It is unpleasant in summer as well as in winter. 冬天不好过，夏天也不好过。
The child is lively as well as healthy. 这孩子既健康又活泼。
（2）有时还可译为“除……之外，还”，与besides, in addition to的用法相似。
如：As well as learning to swim he has been taking Spanish lessons this summer.As well as knowing some Russian，she speaks English very well.除了懂得一点俄语之外，她的英语讲得很好。
二、弄清强调重点1. 在表达“不但……而且……”的意义时，A as well as B这一结构强调的重点是A不是B，语意的重点在前部，不在后半部。
