十五选十
第一篇:
Yet I feel nothing more than a passing whim to attain the material things so many other people have.My 1999 car shows the wear and tear of 105,000 miles. But it is still dependable.Myapartment is modest, but quiet and relaxing. My clothes are well suited to my work, which is primarily outdoors. My minimal computer needs can be met at the library.
In spite of what I don`t have,I don`t feel poor. Why?I`ve enjoyed exceptionally good health for 53 years. It`s not just that I`ve been illness-free,it`s that I feel vigorous and spirited.Exercising is actually fun for me.I look forward to long, energizing walks. And Ilove the”can do” attitude that follows.
I also cherish the gift of creativity. When Iwrite a beautiful line of poetry,or fabricate a joke that tickles someone,I feel rich inside.I`m continually surprised at the insights that come through my writing process. And talking with so many interesting writer friends is one of my main sources of enjoyment.
第二篇:
I suspect not everyone who loves the country would be happy living the way we do.It takes a couple of special qualities. One is a tolerance for solitude.Because we are so busy and on such a tight budget,we don`t entertain much.During the growing season there is no tiome for socializing anyway.Jim and Emily are involved in school activities, but they too spend most of their time at home.
The other requirement is energy –a lot of it.The way to make self-sufficiency work on small scale is to resist the temptation to buy a tractor and other expensive laborsaving
decices.instead, you do the work yourself. The only machinery we own (not counting the lawn mower)is a little three-horsepower rotary culticator and a 16-inch chain saw.
第三篇:
Always the college professor,my dad had carefully avoided any thing he considered too sentimental,so I knew how moved he was to write me that, after having helped educate many young people,he now felt that his best results included his own son.
The Reverend Nelson wrote that his decades as a “simple,old-fashioned principal” had ended with schools undergoing such swift changes that he had retired in selfdoubt.”I heard more of what I had done wrong than what I did right,” he said, adding that my letter had brought him welcome reassurance that his career had been appreciated.
A glance atGrandma`s familiar handwiriting brought back in aflash memories of standing alongside her white rocking chair ,watching her”settin’ down ” some letter to relatives.Character by character,Grandma would slowly accomplish one word, then the next,so that afinished page would consume hours invested in expressing her loving gratefulness to me – whom she used to diaper!
