功能对等理论视角下的《时间即生命》翻译研究作者：李栋来源：《科学与财富》2020年第03期摘要：中國具有深厚的历史积淀，诞生了许多优秀的文学作品。

随着中国经济发展和国际地位提升，中国在引进西方文学作品的同时也开始输出本国优秀文学作品。

张培基教授是中国著名翻译家，在中国翻译界具有重要影响，他翻译的文学作品不仅自然流畅还颇具文采，是文学翻译的经典之作。

功能对等理论是翻译研究的经典理论，在翻译史上具有重要影响。

笔者将以功能对等理论为依据对本篇译文进行研究，进而论证功能对等理论对散文翻译的指导作用。

关键词：散文翻译;《时间即生命》;功能对等理论1. 功能对等理论简介尤金·A·奈达在圣经的翻译实践中总结出了经典的翻译理论，即功能对等翻译理论。

在奈达看来，翻译是以最自然的语言在接受语中以最自然的方式重现原文中的信息，首先是意义，然后是风格。

翻译传达的信息既有表层词汇信息也有深层的文化信息。

翻译不仅是词汇意义上的对等还包括语义、风格和文体的对等（叶子南，2001）。

2. 功能对等理论视角下《时间即生命》翻译研究2.1 词性转换功能对等理论认为，翻译过程并非刻板的字面的完全对等，而是灵活的动态的转换过程（翟芳等，2017）。

英语和汉语分属于不同语系，在不同的文化背景下形成，彼此具有显著差异。

散文句式多样、语言凝练、自然流畅、富于情感，同时，散文的用词灵活考究。

在散文翻译过程中，译者对词汇的灵活转换与翻译非常重要。

原文：每移动一下就是表示我们的寿命已经缩短了一部分。

译文：Each click indicating the shortening of one’s life by a little bit.“寿命已经缩短了一部分”缩短是动词。

张培基教授在翻译过程中，并未将其生硬地译为be shortened by，而是考虑到英汉语言的不同特点，将其译为名词化的shortening，这种灵活的转换更符合目的语读者的表达习惯。

张培基英译散文赏析之《生命》生命Life何为He Wei| 译文摘自张培基《英译中国散文选二》如果回归自然，各有不同的方式，后人总是尊重前人最后一次选择。

一位朋友偶然讲起一件事，有如一篇小小说，听者动容。

There are various ways of returning to nature, but people generally respect the last wish made by their parents towards their journey’s end. A friend of mine incidentally related to me the following occurrence which, like a little story, is very touching: 要点：1，“前人最后一次选择”译者按”父母的临终愿望“之意译为the last wish made by their parents towards their journey’s end，其中one’s journey’s end意为“临终，生命的尽头”也可译为the last wish made by their parents towards the end of their life journey2, “一位朋友偶然讲起一件事”译为 A friend of mineincidentally related to me the following occurrence，其中relate 意为“讲述”其同义词有recount，recourse, speak of，occurrence 指“发生的事情”比thing更加高端啊有木有~3，“听者动容“即”令听者动容“或”令人动容“=touching在新开发的丛林里，一条蜿蜒的小径上，一个衣着素色的女人踽踽独行，径直走向林子里的一棵树。

这里许多树大小参差不一，有的移植不久，不过都长得很快。

英语翻译赏析

2）前面说过，张培基先生追求的是再现原文的神韵，所以张先生在翻译时始终是站在全局的高度上，透彻理解原文，增益和删略恰倒好处，使原文潜层语意得到充分演绎。再看两例：
例2：这尊塑像站了几百年了，他觉得这是一种苦役。（艾青《偶像的话》）
译文： Having stood the statue had
赏析：原文中"一朵……一朵……一朵"是一个排比结构，并列关系，而张培基先生却把它处理为one … another … still another 这种递进结构，使译文更接近"英式思维"，更地道。此外，张先生对几个颜色词的处理也恰倒好处。"Sickly ivory-yellow slightly tinged with blood red" 中两个颜色词组搭配得珠联璧合，这样，一朵虽然纤弱但对生命仍然执着的蔷薇花便跃然纸上。
赏析：“叶”的涵义是“落叶”，译为fallen leaf； “大约”只不过是一个口头语，起到舒缓语气的作用，并不是真正意义上的“差不多，可能但不确定”所以该词可以不必译出； “遥想”这个词的含义已被前文的ancient saying表达出来了，所以翻译时也可以删略； more than enough是增益成分，准确表达出了"人们一看见一片落叶就知道秋天已经来临了"的肯定的口气。

赏析：译文似乎比原文还"雅"，s押头韵，night与sight押脚韵，音韵美尽显其中，充分体现了译者的美学思想。
4）幽默与诙谐是一种建立在一定文化基础上的语言艺术。但是在做翻译时，很多译者在这点击添加文本方面都有一定的局限性。相比之下，张培基先点击添加文本生则技高一筹。下面是个实例：

出版过《浪漫的与古典的》和《文学的纪律》两本文艺批评专著。在美国哈佛大学留学时，曾选修美国新古典主义大师白璧德的《十六世纪以后之文艺批评》课程，在文艺思想上深受白璧德的影响。因此30年代他的文艺思想主要集中体现在以下几个方面： 1：文学根基于人性。 2：文学家必须保持自由的人格。 3：提倡文学的节制与理性，用理性和节制作为衡量文学作品优劣的一种标准。

Likewise, with each page torn off the wall calendar, one‟s life is shortened by another day. Time, therefore, is life. Nevertheless, few people treasure their time as much as their life. Time must not be wasted if you want to do your bit in your remaining years or acquire some useful knowledge to improve yourself and help others, so that your life may turn out to be significant and fruitful. All that is foolproof, yet few people really strive to make the best use of their time.

Personally, I am also a fritterer. I don‟t play mahjong. I seldom go to the theatre or cinema—I go there maybe only once every few years. I seldom spend long hours watching TV—usually I watch TV for no more than 30 minutes at a sitting. Nor do I go visiting and gossiping from door to door. Some people asked me, “Then what do you do with most of your time?” Introspecting with remorse, I found that apart from the time earmarked from my job and unavoidable social activities, most of my time had been wasted. I should have concentrated my energies on reading whatever books I have not yet read. I should have utilized all my time in writing anything I want to write. But I‟ve failed to do so. Very much of my time has been frittered away aimlessly. As the saying goes, “One who does not work hard in youth will grieve in vain in old age.”
