Almost all convention organizers prefer to house the entire convention under one roof. When this is not possible, separate exhibit centers are often used in conjunction with neighboring hotels. The largest exhibits use huge convention centers such as McCormick Place in Chicago, which has 2,200,000 square feet, and the Las Vegas Convention Center, which boasts over 1.3 million square feet of space.

Exhibit Assignments Another important factor in the success of a trade show is the layout of the show itself. Careful thought must be given to booth layout and foot traffic control for maximum results for both attendees and the exhibitors. Space can be assigned to exhibitors by four different methods. One of the most commonly used systems is the first-come, firstserved approach. While many exhibitors feel this is the fairest system, this approach must be carefully planned.

Virtual conferences
The final category, and one that is increasing in attractiveness to business as travel expenses increase, is the virtual conference. The cheap and fast connections of internet have allowed internet conferences to be arranged with people all over the world. Audio conferences are easier and cheaper as the bandwidth requirements are lower than video conferences. There are also video-conferencing suites in most major towns and cities of the world where there will be equipment more suited to sharing diagrams and whiteboards electronically than sitting at a desk at work with a web cam.
