My thoughts of MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE

MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE , an short fiction written by Edgar Allen Pole , brings readers into a mysterious but horrible world with rich imagination.

At the beginning,the speaker tells us the story is unreal .

Reading this story, we can identify with the main character, to feel what he feel , to fear what he fear.

The main character sailed on a voyage to the Archipelago of the Sunda islands as a passenger.Felt ill at ease , he noticed and tried to remind the captain that storm may come but got none of reply. Unfortunately, the ship beaten by the strong wave and the only two survivals are an old Swede and the man. Crashed by another great ship, their ship were finally drawn into a whirlpool after drifting on the sea for 5 days with full hopelessness. Suddenly and unexpectedly, the man was thrown into the very great ship and he found the shipnamed DISCOVERY and looked as if an ancient one. Then he found no one in the ghost ship could see him , so he got into the captain room and wrote down the manuscript.However, the ghost ship headed south on the wave and finally sank in a huge whirlpool.

From my perspective, the man must have a time-travel when he firstly met the ghost ship. And the ghost ship may represent the legend

that the Holland sailors were ordered to sail on the sea until the day of judgment.Fate had ordained the meeting! It is what I thought when I was reading the story.The outcome seems to be predictable, but I am still curious about the man’s final destiny. Whether he will die or not? What will he find under the whirlpool? Does the history repeate itself there? So many questions in my heart that bring me a sense of unknown fears. Then the story stopped here without any explaination.

If you ask me to expand the story, I may write as follows.

The man got through the inner earth and travel from the south pole to the north pole. He was the only manwho approach the truth of the world. But he would never get back to the human society.

He became a ghost in that ship just like those Holland sailors, sailing the same voyage day by day till the end of time.

Forever.
