一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解A story posted by The New York Post Monday tells the tale of Katrina Holte, a Hillsboro woman who quit her job to cosplay a 1950s housewife.Let me start by expressing admiration to Holte for using her 2019 freedoms to follow her 1950s dreams. Everyone should be so lucky as to get to decide what they wear and how they spend their time. That's the future our foremothers fought for.But as much fun as I am sure she is having living a vintage (复古的) life, which literally includes watching shows like "I Love Lucy" and listening to vinyl recordings (刻录碟片), I think it's important to remember that being a 1950s housewife was actually totally awful, and something our grandmothers and mothers fought against. For example, once I called my grandma and asked her for her recipe for Cloud Biscuits, these delicious biscuits she used to make that we would cover with butter and homemade raspberry jam on Thanksgiving."Why would you want that?" she said. "Go to the store. Go to the freezer section. Buy some pre-made biscuits and put them in the oven."She straight-up refused to give me the recipe, because it was hard and took a long time to make. In her mind, it was a waste of time.Getting off the phone, it occurred to me that spending every day of your life serving a husband and five children wasn't fun at all. And then there are the grandchildren who eventually come along demanding Cloud Biscuits, a whole new expanded set of people to feed. She was basically a slave to those hungry mouths, cooking scratch meals three times a day. When she wasn't trapped in the kitchen, she had to keep the house clean, make sure she looked good enough to be socially acceptable, and make sure her kids and husband looked good enough to be socially acceptable. And she had no days off.I know my grandma loves her kids and her grandkids, her husband and the life she led, but man, it must have been a lot of thankless, mindless labor. No wonder everyone went all-in on processed foods when they came around. Imagine the nice break something like a microwave dinner would give a woman working, unpaid, for her family every single day?I also had another grandma. She was a scholar who helped found the Center for the Study of Women in Society at University of Oregon. She was a pioneering second-wave feminist who wrote books, gave lectures and traveled the world. But, she did all of that after divorcing my grandpa, when most of her kids were out of the house. Back then, in the 1950s and the 1960s, there was no illusion about women "having it all". How could that even possibly happen? If you were taking care of a family, waiting on your husband, you had no time to follow your dreams, unless you made that your dream.A lot of women took that approach. We call it Stockholm Syndrome now.And of course, these women I am talking about are upper-middle-class white women. Romanticizing the 1950s is especially disgusting when you think about how women of color andpoor women were treated back then, and the lack of education and choices available to them.Because the women in this country demanded something approaching equality, Holte has the chance to live out her fantasy. Not every woman in America is so lucky. We still don't have pay equality and in many states, we still don't have autonomy over our own bodies. Poor women and women of color still lack the opportunities of their wealthy and white peers. And while it's getting better, women are still expected to be responsible for the emotional labor of running a household and raising the children. But at least we can get jobs. At least we don't have to sew our own clothes, wear a full face of makeup every day and spend hours making Cloud Biscuits some ungrateful kid will wolf down, barely remembering to say thank you.(1)According to the author, what is the future our foremothers fought for?A. Watching shows like "I Love Lucy" and listening to vinyl recordings.B. Having the freedom to make choices in their daily life.C. Making Cloud Biscuits for their kids and husbands.D. Making sure their kids and husbands socially acceptable.(2)What does the underlined word "that" in paragraph 13 refer to?A. Writing books, giving lectures and traveling the world.B. Divorcing husband when kids were out of house.C. Taking care of a family and waiting on husband.D. Women's illusion about "having it all".(3)What does the "Stockholm Syndrome" in paragraph 14 really mean in the passage?A. Women have been used to the unfair treatment at homeB. Women nowadays like the way of life in the 1950s.C. Victims end up sympathizing with the abusers.D. Women have the chance to live out their dreams.(4)The author thinks of the life of a 1950s housewife as ________.A. fantasticB. admirableC. awfulD. unforgettable(5)What can we learn from the passage?A. It was a waste of time to give grandchildren the recipe.B. All women are not lucky to follow their own dreams in America now.C. Housewives received recognition for their efforts from family members.D. The upper-middle-class white women did a better job in running the household.(6)What is the author's main purpose in writing this passage?A. To show great appreciation to her grandmas.B. To call on housewives to claim the pay for the housework they undertake.C. To draw readers' attention to the situations women face, especially those poor and of color.D. To arouse women's awareness of equal pay at work.【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)A(4)C(5)B(6)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,作者认为在日常生活中拥有选择的自由是我们的祖先为之奋斗的未来,同时想让读者注意到女性所面临的处境,尤其是那些贫穷的有色人种。

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Imagine your body is like the house you live in. Every day, your family creates rubbish. The rubbish builds up until it is put out for the weekly garbage collection. Now, say you put three bags of garbage out, but because one of the collectors was away sick, only two bags are collected. You take the leftover bag inside to be put out again next week. The following week you put out another three bags, plus the leftover bag from last week. But again, only two bags are collected. Imagine this cycle is repeated over the following weeks. This is a simple description of what happens to your body when your kidneys (肾) don't work efficiently. Your body is not thoroughly emptied of waste products. Other areas of the body such as blood pressure and red blood cell production are affected and the insidious process that may lead to kidney failure begins. It's not uncommon for people to lose up to 90 percent of their kidney function before developing any symptoms. There may be no warning signs. This makes early detection(诊察) difficult.Kidney's main job is to remove toxins (毒素) and unwanted water from our blood. Every day our kidneys clean an average of 200 litres of blood. Kidney failure may be a gradual and silent process, going unnoticed because there is no apparent pain.Research shows that more than 25 percent of patients found to require dialysis (透析) do not see a kidney specialist until less than 90 days before dialysis starts. Some risk factors for kidney disease such as age and genetic make-up are out of our control; however, some changes in lifestyle may help prevent kidney damage. Two major risk factors for kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure, have been on the rise over the last few decades. Both conditions are chiefly affected by being overweight and not getting enough exercise, which are the potential factors for the disease.(1)The author gives the example of the house we live in to indicate that ________.A. it's safe and harmless for our body to keep some wasteB. it doesn't matter much if the waste in our body is not emptied in timeC. it's important for our body to empty the waste in time every dayD. our body will not produce any waste if our kidneys work efficiently(2)The underlined word "insidious" (in Paragraph 3) means ________.A. gradual and unnoticedB. apparent and fastC. smooth and safeD. painful and long(3)We can infer that when we find some symptoms related to our kidneys, ________.A. the kidney failure beginsB. the kidneys may have been seriously damagedC. we have lost about 10 percent of kidney functionD. the kidneys can still work properly(4)How many factors of kidney disease are mentioned in the passage?A. Three.B. Four.C. Five.D. Six.(5)Which of the following helps prevent kidney damage?A. Go to see a kidney specialist shortly before dialysis starts.B. Go to see a kidney specialist whenever you find any warning sign.C. Try to keep low blood pressure and a stable lifestyle.D. Take enough exercise and make early detection of kidney disease.【答案】(1)C(2)A(3)B(4)D(5)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了肾脏出现问题的原因,以及巨大危害,分析了肾脏问题出现的重要因素,并指出如何预防肾病。

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Huawei Technologies Co. displayed its much-anticipated in-house operating system Harmony OS on Friday, marking what some call the Chinese tech giant's biggest push yet to build its own software ecosystem for the era of the internet of things. The move is also expected to weaken the influence of the United States government's restrictions on Huawei using Google's Android operating system in smartphones, analysts said.Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, speaking in Dongguan, Guangdong province, said it is difficult to deliver a smooth experience across different devices with the huge amount of codes involved in the Android and Linux operating systems. Linux is an open-source operating system widely used in personal computers and other hardware."Harmony is a next-generation operating system designed to address the challenge," Yu said, adding that it will be able to support a wide range of application situations, including smart TVs, automobiles and wearables. The internet of things refers to a network of devices and other objects that can connect with each other and exchange data.Yu said the US government's restrictions have accelerated the company's marketing of the system, which now has about 4,000 employees working on it.The senior executive said Harmony can be used in its smartphones. But Android is still Huawei's preferred choice for handsets if the company is allowed to use it."But when Android is not available, Harmony can be applied immediately to smartphones. Harmony is ready," Yu added.Jia Mo, an analyst at market research company Canalys, said even if Huawei does not use Harmony in its smartphones in the short term, its smartwatches and smart TVs can be equipped with Harmony to widen its use and accumulate more experience in building an ecosystem."Also, more importantly, Huawei chose to build Harmony into an open-source operating system and allow it to be compatible with Android. Thus Harmony will be more accepted by current Android users. This will prevent Huawei from repeating the fate of Microsoft in promoting smartphone systems," Jia said. Microsoft failed to popularize the use of its Windows system in smartphones years ago.(1)What is the significance of the Harmony OS?A. It symbolizes Huawei has finished its own software ecosystem.B. It may reduce the threat from US government's restrictions.C. It will accumulate more experience in building an ecosystem.D. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解A few hours after my first mission, returning to Earth on the space shuttle Endeavour, I completed all of my medical tests after flight, met with NASA officials, and reunited with my family. Finally, I was alone in my office room in astronaut crew quarters at the Kennedy Space Center, exhausted and ready for bed. And I did what anyone does when they return to their hotel room on a business trip: I turned on the TV. The television news started up: Such and such had happened, people were shocked, blah blah blah. Sports scores. Silly commercials. It didn't take more than a minute before I had to turn it off. It felt like my body was rejecting all this input, just as it would reject an organ donation that had the wrong blood type. All of this noise was just completely foreign to who I was—or, more appropriately, who I had become. A few hours before, I had been orbiting Earth, seeing our planet from space, flying the most amazing machine ever built by human hands, working with a team that was the absolute success of human. And now here in my room watching what was being sold as news, and with my newfound perspective, I just could not stomach it. My worldview was changed forever in a profound (深刻的) way.The biggest change by far and the one for which I will always be most grateful is this big-picture perspective. That will stick with me for the rest of my life.Whenever I feel the pressure of modern life, the stress about work, or worry about the future, I remember my time in the space station. Back to seeing the sun set Or watching our galaxy rise on the horizon. Or seeing a sea of lightning flash a hundred times a second. Or simply back to floating weightlessly. When I'm there in my mind and realize how many billions of these beautiful sunsets there have been and will be in the future, the cares of the world just don't seem that pressing. It goes that, "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." Living daily life down here on the planet is so much better with this attitude!(1)Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word stomach in paragraph 2?A. Access.B. Attend.C. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Hi, I'm Neil Harbisso. I come from a place where the sky is always grey, where flowers are always grey, and where television is still in black and white.I actually come from a world where color doesn't exist. I was born with achromatopsia. I was born completely color-blind. So I've never seen color, and don't know what it looks like. But since the age of 21, I can hear color thanks to a magic electronic eye called "eyeborg": a color sensor between my eyes connected to a chip(芯片) installed at the back of my head that transforms color frequencies into sound frequencies that I hear through my bone.I've had the electronic eye permanently attached to my head and I've been listening to colors nonstop since 2004. So I find it completely normal now to hear colors all the time.Since I started to hear color, my life has changed significantly. Art galleries have become concert halls. I can hear a Picasso. And supermarkets have become like night clubs. I love how they sound. My sense of beauty has changed. Someone might look very beautiful but sound terrible, and someone might sound very harmonious but look awful. So I find it really exciting to create sound portraits(画像) of people. Instead of drawing the shape of someone's face I write down the different notes I hear when I look at them, and then I send them an mp3 of their face. Each face sounds different. I can even give face concerts now, concerts where I play the audience's faces. The good thing about doing this is that if the concert doesn't sound good, it's their fault.I also found out that things I thought were colorless are not colorless at all. Cities are not grey. Lisbon is yellow turquoise(宝石绿); London is very golden red…and humans are not black and white. Human skins range from light shades of orange to very dark shades of orange. We are all orange. If we extend our senses, we will consequently extend our knowledge.(1)We can infer from the article that people with achromatopsia ____________.A. suffer from blindnessB. have a good sense of colorsC. are not able to see colorsD. like to go to concert halls and supermarkets (2)What does the author mean by saying "Art galleries have become concert halls"?A. Art galleries have been changed into various sounds.B. Works at the art galleries are created by great musicians.C. Art galleries are filled with noisy people.D. The author now likes art galleries as much as concert halls.(3)Which of the following statements is NOT correct?A. Neil developed a rare disease in his childhood.B. The eyeborg produces sounds based on shades of colors.C. Neil will use the eyeborg for the rest of his life.D. In Neil's mind, all people are orange.(4)What is the best title for the passage?A. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解City trees grow faster and die younger than trees in rural forestry, a new study finds. Over their lifetimes, then, urban trees will likely absorb less CO2 from the air thah forest trees. As we all know, the earth would be freezing or burning hot without CO2. However, CO2is a greenhouse gas, meaning it traps energy from the sun as/heat. That makes temperatures near the ground rise. Human activities, especially the widespread burning-of fossil(化石)fuels, have been sending extra greenhouse gases into the air. This has led to a rise in average temperatures across the globe.Studies had shown forests readily absorb CO2, but there hadn't been much data on whether city trees grow, die and absorb CO2at the same rate as forest trees do. So some researchers decided to find out.To figure out how quickly trees were growing, researchers tracked their diameters (the width of their trunks) between 2005 and 2014. A tree's diameter increases as it grows, just as a person's waist size increases as they gain weight. About half the weight of a tree is carbon, research has shown. Most of the rest is water. Over the nine years' tracking, the researchers found city trees absorbed four times as much carbon from the air as forest trees. However, they were twice as likely to die. So over the lifetime of each type of tree, forest trees actually absorbed more CO2.City trees grew faster because they had less competition for light from their neighbors. In a forest, trees tend to grow close together, shading their neighbors. Street trees also benefit from higher levels of nitrogen (氮)in rainwater. Nitrogen helps plants grow. Waste gases from gas-burning cars also contain nitrogen, thus enriching city air with nitrogen. Later, rainwater may wash much of it to the ground. Some street trees may also have better access to water than trees in the country because the underground water pipes can leak.(1)What can he known about CO2 from paragraph 2?A. It is one of the side effects of greenhouses.B. It greatly accelerates the process of global warming.C. It results from the widespread burning of fossil fuels.D. It prevents the earth from becoming unsuitable to live on.(2)Why did researchers track the diameters of trees?A. To know about their growth rates.B. To find out how much they weigh.C. To check whether they were healthy.D. To assess the carbon amounts in them.(3)What advantage do city trees have over forest trees?A. They are more likely to access growth promoters.B. They can enjoy more water coming from the air.C. They can enjoy more shade from neighbors.D. They are better at competing for light.(4)What will probably be talked about if the passage is continued?A. How urban trees can live longer.B. Why city living makes trees die young.C. How trees respond to dry soil conditions.D.

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to see the world through an animal's eyes? For example, what a chimpanzee sees as it sits at the top of a tree, or a penguin's view as it dives into the sea to catch its dinner? These questions are answered in the nature documentary Animals with Cameras, produced by the BBC. The three-part series was first aired in the UK last month. To explore animal stories "told" by the animals themselves, the documentary's filmmakers worked with scientists to develop cameras that wild animals could wear."Never before have we seen such high-quality footage (连续镜头)directly from the animal's point of view, " BBC Nature executive producer Fred Kaufman told PBS." This miniseries greatly expands our comprehension of animal behavior and this camera technology opens up new possibilities for discovering so much more."Indeed, the groundbreaking technology provides a new viewpoint of the animal kingdom. New cameras with enough battery life to shoot for hours at a time were designed to be comfortable enough for animals to wear, according to the documentary's camera designer Chris Watts. The technical challenges didn't stop there. Some animals were very curious about the equipment, with some even fighting each other for the chance to wear a camera. In the case of chimpanzees, "we had to create dummy (仿造的)cameras, so that every chimpanzee could get one", the miniseries' wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan told Live Science. For animals that were comfortable enough to be with human beings, the cameras could be fitted and removed by hand. But for others, the cameras came off automatically using a timed release and were collected afterward. This meant that the cameras needed to be as tough as possible. To avoid disturbing the animals, scientists who were good at dealing with wildlife came to help by putting the cameras on the animals." 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解City trees grow faster and die younger than trees in rural forestry, a new study finds. Why faster-growing trees absorb more CO2.【答案】(1)D(2)A(3)A(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,一项新的研究发现:与长在森林中的树木相比,城市里的树木长得更快,但死得更早。

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Suppose you become a leader in an organization. It's very likely that you'll want to have volunteers to help with the organization's activities. To do so, it should help to understand why people undertake volunteer work and what keeps their interest in the work.Let's begin with the question of why people volunteer. Researchers have identified several factors that motivate people to get involved. For example, people volunteer to express personal values related to unselfishness, to expand their range of experiences, and to strengthen social relationships. If volunteer positions do not meet these needs, people may not wish to participate. To select volunteers, you may need to understand the motivations of the people you wish to attract.People also volunteer because they are required to do so. To increase levels of community service, some schools have launched compulsory volunteer programs. Unfortunately, these programs can shift people's wish of participation from an internal factor (e.g. "I volunteer because it's important to me") to an external factor (e.g. "I volunteer because I'm required to do so"). When that happens, people become less likely to volunteer in the future. People must be sensitive to this possibility when they make volunteer activities a must.Once people begin to volunteer, what leads them to remain in their positions over time? To answer this question, researchers have conducted follow-up studies in which they track volunteers over time. For instance, one study followed 238 volunteers in Florida over a year. One of the most important factors that influenced their satisfaction as volunteers was the amount of suffering they experienced in their volunteer positions. Although this result may not surprise you, it leads to important practical advice. The researchers note that attention should be given to "training methods that would prepare volunteers for troublesome situations or provide them with strategies for coping with the problem they do experience".Another study of 302 volunteers at hospitals in Chicago focused on individual differences in the degree to which people view "volunteer" as an important social role. It was assumed that those people for whom the role of volunteer was most part of their personal identity would also be most likely to continue volunteer work. Participants indicated the degree to which the social role mattered by responding to statements such as "Volunteering in Hospital is an important part of who I am." Consistent with the researchers' expectations, they found a positive correlation(正相关) between the strength of role identity and the length of time people continued to volunteer. These results, once again, lead to concrete advice: "Once an individual begins volunteering, continued efforts might focus on developing a volunteer role identity....Items like T-shirts that allow volunteers to be recognized publicly for their contributions can help strengthen role identity".(1)People volunteer mainly out of __________.A. academic requirementsB. social expectationsC. financial rewardsD. internal needs(2)What can we learn from the Florida study?A.Follow-up studies should last for one year.B.Volunteers should get mentally prepared.C.Strategy training is a must in research.D.Volunteers are provided with concrete advice.(3)What is most likely to motivate volunteers to continue their work?A.Individual differences in role identity.B.Publicly identifiable volunteer T-shirts.C.Role identity as a volunteer.D.Practical advice from researchers.(4)What is the best title of the passage?A.How to Get People to VolunteerB.How to Study Volunteer BehaviorsC.How to Keep Volunteers' InterestD.How to Organize Volunteer Activities【答案】(1)D(2)B(3)C(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了怎样让人们去做志愿者的一些方法。

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解A typical child plays many roles, such as friend, neighbor, son or daughter. Simply reminding children of that fact can lead to better problem-solving and more flexible thinking, according to new research from Duke University.Better problem-solving was just one positive finding of the study, said lead author Sarah Gaither, an assistant professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke. After thinking about their own various identities, children also showed more flexible thinking about race and other social groupings—a behavior that could be valuable in an increasingly diverse society. In a series of experiments, Gaither and her colleagues looked at 196 children, ages 6 and 7. In an experiment, one group of children was reminded that they had various identities, such as son, daughter, reader or helper. A second group of children was reminded of their multiple physical attributes, such as a mouth, arms and legs. All the children then needed to handle a few tasksChildren who were reminded of their various identities showed stronger problem-solving and creative thinking skills. When shown pictures of a bear staring at honey-filled beehive(蜂窝)high up in a tree, these children had more creative ideas for how the bear might get the honey, such as turning over a bowl so that it became a stool(凳子). In other words, they saw a new use for the bowl. Children who were reminded of their multiple roles also showed more flexible thinking about social groupings. When asked to categorize different photos of faces, they suggested many ways to Spso. They identified smiling faces such as unsmiling ones, and old and young faces. The other children, meanwhile, primarily grouped people's faces by race and gender(性别).The-study suggests ways to promote flexible thinking for the young, which could be especially valuable for teachers." Gaither said."We have this tendency in our society to only think about ourselves in connection with one important group at a time," Gaither said. "When kids think that they have various identities, they show greater abilities."(1)What are all the kids asked to do in the experiments?A.Play different kinds of roles.B.Remind others of their roles.C.Approach several tasks.D.Classify a group of tasks.(2)How does the author mainly clarify the conclusions of the study in paragraph 4?A.By giving examples.B.By using experts' words.C.By listing a few figures.D.By showing cause and effect.(3)What can we learn from Sarah Gaither's words?A.Improving 5 kids flexible thinking ability is important teaching.B.Kids tend to behave selflessly after thinking about their roles.C.Kids' creative thinking ability is easy to discover and develop.D.Teachers are supposed to make the most of the kids' flexibility.(4)What is the best title for the text?A.Kids' Social Abilities Are Consistent with. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解When John was growing up, other kids felt sorry for him. His parents always had him weeding the garden, carrying out the garbage and delivering newspapers. But when John reached adulthood, he was better off than his childhood playmates. He had more job satisfaction, a better marriage and was healthier. Most of all, he was happier. Far happier. These are the findings of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 teenage boys from Boston. The study showed that those who had worked as boys enjoyed happier and more productive lives than those who had not. "Boys who worked in the home or community gained competence (能力) and came to feel they were worthwhile members of society, "said George Vaillant, the psychologist (心理学家) who made the discovery. "And because they felt good about themselves, others felt good about them."Vaillant's study followed these males in great detail. Interviews were repeated at ages 25, 31 and 47. Under Vaillant, the researchers compared the men's mental-health scores with their boyhood -activity scores. Points were awarded for part-time jobs, housework, effort in school, and ability to deal with problems. The link between what the men had done as boys and how they turned out as adults was surprisingly sharp. Those who had done the most boyhood activities were twice as likely to have warm relations with a wide variety of people, five times as likely to be well paid and 16 times less likely to have been unemployed. The researchers also found that IQ and family social and economic class made no real difference in how the boys turned out.Working—at any age—is important. Childhood activities help a child develop responsibility, independence, confidence and competence—the underpinnings (基础) of emotional health. They also help him understand that people must cooperate and work toward common goals. The most competent adults are those who know how to do this. Yet work isn't everything. As Tolstoy once said, "One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how to love, to work for the person one loves and to love one's work."(1)What do we know about John?A. He enjoyed his career and marriage.B. He had few childhood playmates.C. He received little love from his family.D. He was envied by others in his childhood.(2)Vaillant's words in Paragraph 2 serve as ________.A. a description of personal values and social valuesB. an analysis of how work was related to competenceC. an example for parents' expectations of their childrenD. an explanation why some boys grew into happy men(3)Vaillant's team obtained their findings by ________.A. recording the boys' effort in schoolB. evaluating the men's mental healthC. comparing different sets of scoresD. measuring the men's problem solving ability (4)What does the underlined word "sharp" probably mean in Paragraph 4?A. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Being forgiving to yourself and others can protect against stress and the harm it does to mental health, according to a new study in the Journal of Health Psychology.Researchers looked at the effects of lifetime stress on a person's mental health, and how more forgiving people got along compared with people who weren't so forgiving. To do this, they asked 148 young adults to fill out questionnaires that assessed their levels of lifetime stress, their tendency to forgive and their mental and physical health. No surprise, people with greater exposure to stress had worse mental and physical health. Butthe researchers also discovered that if people were highly forgiving of both themselves and others, that characteristic alone almost removed the connection between stress and mental illness."It's almost entirely erased—it's zero," says study author Toussaint. "If you don't have forgiving tendencies, you feel the immediate effects of stress in a severe way. You don't have anything to cushion you against that stress."How a forgiving personality protects a person from the influence of severe stress is hard to determine. The researchers infer that people who are more forgiving may adopt better skills to deal with stress, or their reaction to major stressors(压力源)may be slow.Though more research is needed to fully understand the benefits of being more forgiving, Toussaint believes"100%"that forgiveness can be learned. His own previous research has shown that saying a short prayer on forgiveness can help people take the edge off. "I think most people want to feel good and forgiveness offers you the opportunity to do that," he says.(1)The researchers got the effect of forgiving by_____.A. analyzing questionnairesB. doing scientific experimentC. writing research papersD. communicating with 148 adults(2)What can we infer from the passage?A. Forgiving tendencies can deal with all mental problems.B. It remains unknown why forgiveness helps to reduce stress.C. Toussaint's study has fully discovered the benefits of being forgiving.D. Saying a short prayer on forgiveness is the key to getting rid of stress.(3)What does the underlined phrase "take the edge off' in the last paragraph probably mean?A. Look ahead.B. Become relaxed.C. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解It seems that electronic devices just keep getting smaller. Scientists in the United States have announced the creation of the first transistor with only two dimensions(二维).A transistor is a small electronic device that transfers or carries electronic current. Scientists hope these new 2D transistors will be used for building high-resolution(高分辨率)displays that need very little energy. Two groups of scientists created these 2D transistors. They report that the transistors are only a few atoms thick.Usually transistors are made with the element silicon(硅). Computer processors, memory chips, TV screens and other electronic devices contain billions of silicon-based transistors. But these very small electrical parts have certain limitations.Dimitris Ioannou is an electrical engineering professor at George Mason University. He says the traditional transistor has been improved as much as it can be. He adds that researchers have been looking for new materials with special features and they want transistors to be seen through and soft."If the layers are very thin, the transistor can become flexible, so it doesn't have to be rigid(坚硬的), like it would be in a silicon chip. So people can think of applications like wearable electronics, television screens and other things," said Ioannou. These new transistors can also carry higher current. They also can move the current much faster than traditional transistors. This is important for high-definition screens.Dimitris Ioannou says the scientific success could prove very useful in the future. "Now, how good and how useful it will be, it's still in the stage of research, but it certainly is an advance," said Ioannou.(1)Which of the following statements about the newly created transistor is TRUE?A.They are expected to be used in high-resolution displays.B.The transistors are made with the element silicon.C.They are rigid, just like traditional transistors.D.They have already been put into actual use.(2)What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5 mean?A.The traditional transistors have been changed into two-dimensional ones.B.Many of the traditional transistors have been improved over the years.C.The traditional transistor has been developed to its fullest.D.The traditional transistor has been developed quite well.(3)What is Dimitris Ioannou's attitude towards the creation of the new transistors?A.Negative.B.Neutral.C.Indifferent.D.Positive.【答案】(1)A(2)C(3)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,美国科学家发明了新的二维晶体管,介绍了新型二维晶体管的相关信息及未来前景。

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Artificial intelligence can predict when patients with a heart disorder will die, according to scientists. The software learned to analyze blood tests and scans of beating hearts to spot signs that the organ was about to fail. The team, from the UK's Medical Research Council, said the technology could save lives by finding patients that need more aggressive treatment. The results were published in the Journal of Radiology.According to the researchers, high blood pressure in the lungs damages part of the heart, and about a third of patients die within five years after being diagnosed. There are treatments: drugs, injections straight into the blood vessels, a lung transplant. But doctors need to have an idea of how long patients might have left, in order to pick the right treatment. The software was given scans of 256 patients' hearts, and blood test results. When this data was combined with eight years of patient health records, the artificial intelligence predicted when patients would die.The software could look about five years into the future. It correctly predicted those who would still be alive after one year about 80% of the time. The figure for doctors is 60%.The team now want to test the software works in other patients in different hospitals before assessing whether it should be made widely available to doctors. The researchers also want to use the technology in other forms of heart failure, such as cardiomyopathy, to see who might need a pacemaker or other forms of treatment.Dr Mike Knapton, from the British Heart Foundation, said, "This exciting use of computer software in medical practice will help doctors in the future to make sure that patients are receiving the correct treatment before the condition deteriorates and leaves them needing a lung transplant. The next step is to test this technology in more hospitals with heart disease."(1)What can artificial intelligence do according to the passage?A. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Recently, as the British doctor Robert Winston took a train from London to Manchester, he found himself becoming steadily angry. A woman had picked up her phone and begun a loud conversation, which would last an unbelievable hour. Furious, Winston began to tweet about the woman. He took her picture and sent it to his more than 40,000 followers. When the train arrived at its destination, Winston rushed out. He'd had enough of the woman's rudeness. But the press were now waiting for her on the platform. And when they showed her Winston's messages, she used just one word to describe Winston's actions: rude.Winston's tale is something of a microcosm(缩影) of our age of increasing rudeness, fueled by social media. What can we do to fix this?Studies have shown that rudeness spreads quickly, almost like the common cold. Just witnessing rudeness makes it far more likely that we, in turn, will be rude later on. The only way to avoid it is to deal with it face to face. We must say, "Just stop." For Winston, that would have meant approaching the woman, telling her that her conversation was frustrating other passengers and politely asking her to speak more quietly or make the call at another time. The rage and injustice we feel at the rude behavior of a stranger can drive us to do odd things. In my own research, surveying 2,000 adults, I discovered that the acts of revenge people had taken ranged from the ridiculous to the disturbing. Winston did shine a spotlight on the woman's behavior — but from afar, in a way that shamed her.We must instead combat rudeness head on. When we see it occur in a store, we must step up and say something. If it happens to a colleague, we must point it out. We must defend strangers in the same way we'd defend our best friends. But we can do it with grace, by handling it without a trace of aggression and without being rude ourselves. Because once rude people can see their actions through the eyes of others, they are far more likely to end that strain themselves. As this tide of rudeness rises, civilization needs civility.(1)What can you learn about Robert Winston from the passage?A. He knows how to speak to rude people.B. He behaved improperly and spoke loudly on the train.C. He lost his temper due to other people's rudeness.D. He reacted to a woman's rude behavior wrongly.(2)What does "fueled by social media" mean in Paragraph 3?A. Rude behavior is common on social media.B. Rudeness can be avoided through social media.C. People can easily get away through social media.D. Social media may spread and cause rudeness.(3)According to the writer, how should you respond when you meet rude people?A. Record them and post it on the Internet.B. Point it out in a polite and skillful way.C. Do nothing but wait for other people to fix it.D. Pay them back by doing equally disturbing things.(4)Which of the following statement is true about the last paragraph?A. We can only point out rudeness from familiar people.B. Rudeness and manners can hardly coexist in civilized society.C. Both strangers and acquaintances deserve our friendly warning.D. Rude people can't see their rudeness through others' eyes.【答案】(1)D(2)D(3)B(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文,作者通过温斯特对打电话这位粗鲁的女士曝光在媒体上的不当行为,提出了我们要用礼貌而巧妙的方式指出来生活中粗鲁的行为。

People can also have completely different ways of saying the same thing. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is asking the public to help it add new words. Editors want to find the regional differences in English around the world. They want to expand its record of the language.Last year, the OED, BBC Radio and the Forward Arts Foundation teamed up to find local words in the United Kingdom. It resulted in more than 100 regional words and phrases being added to the dictionary. One was "cuddy wifter", which means a left-handed person. Now, the OED is widening its search to English speakers around the world. Eleanor Maier, an editor at OED, said the response has been great. Editors are listing a bunch of suggestions to include in the dictionary. These include Hawaii's "hammajang", which means "in a disorderly state". Another is the word for a swimming costume, "dookers" or "duckers". It is used in Scotland. The OED also might include the word "frog-drowner", which Americans might use to describe a downpour of rain. Another possibility is "brick". It means "very cold" to people in New Jersey and New York City. The dictionary has already found that, depending on location, a picture hanging off center might be described as "agley". It might also be called "catawampous" or "ahoo"."The OED aims to cover all types of English," Maier said. That includes scientific words, slang and regional language. Maier also said that it can be difficult for the OED's editors to identify regional words. The terms are more often spoken than written down. The appeal is called Words Where You Are. It is looking for more suggestions. "We were surprised and pleased by the number of regional words we were able to include," said Maier.(1)Which local word of the following most likely comes from one region of the United Kingdom?A.
