Reading

I. Objectives:

1. Instructional objectives

1) Learn words with the same sound and spelling but different meanings;

2) Phrases: treat…as, spice up…with, have an eye for, be eager to, at least,

in many cases, prepare (sb.) for, after all.

2. Educational objectives

1) Learn to talk about pet animals and express the pros and cons;

2) Further develop the Ss’reading ability --- guessing the meaning of

unknown words and understanding the meaning between the lines;

3) Learn about the relationship between Americans and their pets so that Ss

can learn to protect animals.

II. Focal points:

1.Learn some important words and phrases;

2.Learn to guess the meaning of words and improve reading skills;

3.Express the pros and cons.

III. Difficult points:

1. Learn to use the words with the same sound and spelling but different meanings

2. Understand the text further by reading

3. Learn about animals and love them in a proper way

IV. Procedures and Time Allotment

Stage 1 Getting students ready for learning (8 mins)

Ask Ss to give the name of each kind of animals according to the pictures and to answer some questions such as “what animal do you think is the most dangerous/ the most beautiful/ the cleverest…”

设计意图：激发学生对动物的兴趣，巩固本单元有关动物的生词（shark, swallow, chick, whale, tortoise, rooster）

Stage 2 Pre-reading (5 mins)

Step 1 What animals do you think Americans would like to keep as their

pets? Tick those that you think are most possible from the pictures. Ss are allowed to add their own.

Step 2 For what do you think Americans keep pets?
