Wordsworth’s Writing Features
• Profound in meaning. • Fresh in imagination
• He is the representative poet of Romanticism. • He emphasized the liberating aesthetic. • He not only started the modern poetry of the growing inner self, but also change the course of English poetry by using ordinary speech of the language by advocating a reform to nature.

Wordsworth’s Life
• Wordsworth was born and grew up near Lake district in northwestern England. His parents died when he was very young.
• 1787—1791, he went to study at Cambridge. • 1791, he went to France to learn French in preparation for the career of a tutor. There he was greatly impressed by the revolution. He was also involved in a love affair with a French girl. • 1799—1850, he was politically very conservative and lived in the Lake district in the company of his sister and his friend Coleridge.

Wordsworth is one of the Lake poets.
Three main figures: William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey
• His short poems fall into 2 categories. poems about nature and poems about human life. • poems about nature: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, My Heart leaps up, Tintern Abbey, To the Cuckoo, To a Butterfly poems about human life: The Solitary Reaper, The Old Cumberland Beggar, Michael
• Long poem: The Prelude(1850)—analyses the growth of poetic genius during childhood and youth, and recalls lessons owes to nature. • Lyrical Ballads(1798):published with Coleridge. • Preface to Lyrical Ballads: it can be read as a declaration of romanticism
