For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will by commenting on the humorous saying, "Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I've done it hundreds of times." You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

As is shown in the chart above, the unemployment rate in American society remained high in 2010. nonetheless, people with better educational background seemed to suffer less from unemployment, for example, the unemployment rates of people with doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees are 1.9%, 4.4%, and 5.4% respectively. However, 9.2% of individuals with some college education but no degree and 10.3% of individuals with only high school diploma cannot find a job. Worst still, the unemployment rate of people without a high school diploma even reached 14.9%.

In today’s fierce job market, getting a suitable job is becoming increasingly difficult, not to mention a well-paid one. I am convinced that the crux of this disturbing problem lies in the fact that job hunters do not possess the skills or knowledge the employers need. Therefore, they always fail in the job interviews.

As we all know educational fees are high. Nevertheless, compared to the host of benefits education brings to students’ future, they seem nothing. Education is a worthy investment in every way. In conclusion, education pays.

These days, many kinds of goods tend to be excessively packaged, especially gifts. People seem to be more and more attracted to the beautiful decorations, rather than the commodity itself. There may be several reasons for

this phenomenon.

Firstly, many consumers are not sensible enough. They are easily captured by the nice appearance of the goods they intend to buy. So the salesmen take it as a way to attract their potential consumers. Secondly, and more importantly, people today buy things not only for themselves, but also for their leaders, workmates, or friends. In this case, the quality and practical uses of the goods may give way to nice-looking packaging.

As far as I’m concerned, excessive packaging is really an unnecessary waste. It is of no practical use, and people always throw its package away at once. So it is quite urgent to curb this kind of phenomenon. For the consumers, they need to be more sensible. And for manufacturers. What they should do is mot attract people with useless decorations, but provide commodities of better quality.

The humorous saying, “quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I’ve done it hundreds of times”, illustrates the astonishing yet common occurrence that many people try hard to give up a bad habit but in vain. They fail because they lack a strong will. In fact, nothing succeeds without a strong will.

Take Thomas Edison for example. He is well known for his large number of inventions which were created through thousands of unsuccessful experiments. Had it not been for his strong will, he would have merely been wasting time and money achieving nothing. Not surprisingly, Edison’s perseverance is actually a common quality among successful people.

As college students, we should bear in mind that a strong will helps set a clear goal for people and provide its owner with the motivation and encouragement in face of difficulties. Indeed, success goes to those who are equipped with a strong will. A man with a strong will is a man who cannot be defeated.

Have you noticed that nowadays, an increasing number of people attach more importance to gain a higher degree? According to an investigation about unemployment rat in 2010 made by US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the higher level of degree links to the lower rate of unemployment. For instance, the unemployment of doctoral degree was 1.9 percent, while the rate of high school diploma was 10.3 percent.

The statistics show an obvious conclusion that education is a worthy investment. In order to gain a degree as high as possible, students have to experience a long struggling difficult time, working hard, with less entertainment. What’s more, some families have to pay a lot of money for their children’s education. It may be a heavy load for them. Luckily, all these payments will reward back some day.

It is no denying that people with high degree can easily find a good job with higher pay, and accordingly they can acquire a better quality of life.

Nowadays, a lot of goods are excessively packaged. For example, it’s reported that for most mooncakes, the packaging cost is far more expensive than the product itself.

The shopping preference of customers is to blame. Businessmen are aware that quite a few customers would like to buy products that look attractive, so they make their best satisfying the desire. Moreover, some people use the excessively packaged products as gifts, so in their minds, the more expensive the packaging is , the better they will impress the receivers. All of these lead to over-packaging.

In my opinion, excessive packaging is such a waste. It will benefit nobody at all but do harm to the environment. Excessive packaging requires lots of natural resources, but when it is thrown away, it goes back to the environment as pollution. So I strongly support the government releasing banning law on this issue. Besides, we customers should change our shopping taste for a green one. When there is no need, there is no producing. 11’

As a humorous saying goes, “quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I’ve done i t hundreds of times.” This is, of course the face, but it also tells us that without strong will, nobody can achieve success.
