Through several immigrations in the history of the United States,it was not only greatly affecting the characters of the united stations, but also played an important role in becoming the world's leading economic power in a short span of two hundred years . It is no exaggeration to say that it is American immigrants that change the America and make the America strong.
In 1986 president Ronald Reagan signed immigration reform that gave amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants in the country.Since the recession's end in June 2009, immigrants posted a net gain of 656,000 jobs. 1.1 million immigrants were granted legal residence in 2009.
Public attitudes about immigration in the U.S. were heavily influenced in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. After the attacks, 52% of Americans believed that immigration was a good thing overall for the U.S., according to a 2009 Gallup poll. A 2008 Public Agenda survey found that half of Americans said tighter controls on immigration would do "a great deal" to enhance U.S. national security.

In a late 1980s study, economists overwhelmingly viewed immigration, including illegal immigration, as a positive for the economy . In 2010, an econometrics study 、 found that immigration helped increase bilateral trade when the incoming people were connected via networks to their country of origin, particularly boosting trade of final goods as opposed to intermediate goods, but that the trade benefit weakened when the immigrants became assimilated into American culture.

2006 United States immigration reform protests
In 2006, millions of people participated in protests over a proposed change to U.S. immigration policy. The protests began in response to proposed legislation known as H.R. 4437, which would raise penalties for Illegal immigration and classify illegal immigrants and anyone who helped them enter or remain in the US as felons.
