The Holocaust refers to the killing of millions of Jews by the Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s. The persecution of Jews started with restrictions on shops and public transport; in 1935 laws were passed in which Jews lost their German citizenship and marriage between Jews and non-Jews was forbidden; in 1938, 10,000 shops owned by Jews were destroyed. From 1942 onwards there was a plan (officially “The Final Solution of the Jewish Question”) to kill Jews systematically and eradicate the entire Jewish population.
